Had to have a ceiling fan replaced in the bedroom. Called Toolin Around to replace the old and worn out fan in our bedroom. First off Cory the owner was right on time. Very congenial and knew what he was doing. Installed it in no time. We also had him fix a door out to our patio that didn't fully close. He fixed the door so it now fully closes. Toolin Around did an amazing job installing multiple TV menu boards for us at our business. Over a 2 afternoons, the team ran electrical and installed the screens. There wasn't a proper backing on the drywall/structure of the area where the TV mounts were to be installed. However, Cory, Jerry, and another gentleman whose name is escaping me were able to figure how to accomplish this not so easy task. Cory also sent me the exact wall mounts to order in advance! During installation the handyman removed an L bracket that connected the door frame to the floor because it was in the way of the doggie door after he cut a hole. He assured me that this L bracket was only here for "passing compliance". None of the screws are flush with the wall and I could hear the screws stripping when he used his electric screwdriver. Outdoor work in overwhelming heat. Facia board either repaired or replaced. It was less expensive so I chose repairing the 3 ft board with a metal Cover protecting the roof beneath it....It became a a finish that I was happy to pay for. Quality work should be compensated therefore I gave the handyman a nice tip. Simultaneously, the also Repaired slats that were Broken, rotted, and I chose 15 new slats. They were able to salvage all the rest, they Painted the slats, rehung them and you Could not tell the difference. It is a small business starting out as a M O M AND POP. I call them as needed. It took me almost a year to write this review, because it honestly GRIEVES me to have to write a negative review for a locally owned company- I really wanted to like this company. I'll start with minor issues: I hired Toolin Around to do a pantry rebuild in my home. The initial estimate went well, I provided photos for inspiration as to what I was looking for. I sent two photos that were similar (but had large differences), and was told we were "ready to start demo." There was no blueprint for what the pantry was going to look like, so I was a bit concerned, and I had my husband (who works in construction) draw up a blueprint with exactly what I wanted including measurements of the shelves and spacing, etc. I personally feel this is something the contractor should be responsible for. On construction day, demo began and I had to ask the crew working to put up a tarp (in my kitchen) so that dust and debris didn't go all over my kitchen. They used a thin painting tarp that tore easily, so I still ended up with dust EVERYWHERE. The next problem we had was on the final day of building the pantry- the bottom shelf was done incorrectly, as the workers didn't follow the blueprint measurements my husband had drawn out for them. So they had to return to fix the problem. The very last mistake was the pantry door installation. The worker installing the doors took an entire day to install accordion doors, as if it was the first time he had ever attempted it. First, the worker drilled holes for the handles that were too short- a simple mistake that ended up leaving permanent holes in the doors! Then, he drilled new holes and installed the door handles on the wrong spot, making the doors nearly impossible to open. This could have been prevented if he had read the instruction manual. So, he had to return another day to drill yet a THIRD SET of new holes to install the handles in the correct place! The worked attempted to fill in the 2 sets of mis-drilled holes, and did a very poor job. Corey had to come to fix filling in the holes. He was supposed to return again to finish the job, but never did. Lastly the BIGGEST problem by far- the workers REMOVED my laminate flooring-4 layers worth- down to the subfloors, without even asking me! My house was built in 1954 and the flooring/ mastic used was MORE than likely ASBESTOS. I presented this issue to the contractor (Corey) who said "well...it's done now!" Unacceptable. Given the fact that it's illegal to remove asbestos without a C22 license- this is VERY concerning. When I emailed Corey about my concerns, he stated, "It is not illegal to remove asbestos flooring if it was under 100 sq feet." This is ONLY true with HOMEOWNER CONSENT, and safety precautions- neither of which were done. It's LEGALLY REQUIRED to take safety precautions when removing asbestos- EVEN if it is under 100sq ft, which includes a proper enclosure of the job site, respirator masks for workers, and LEGALLY disposing of the materials-NONE of which was done! If, as a contractor, you don't know these laws- you shouldn't be operating a construction business at all! This is ABSOLUTELY NOT OKAY. I was in communication with the contractor, Corey, via email over this issue and eventually he stopped responding when I had asked him to hire someone to come out and test for asbestos for my peace of mind. I am an immunocompromised person with children living in the home, and no testing was done prior to the work, to ensure any of this work would be SAFE. As a homeowner, I didn't know that the standard procedure for contractors doing demo work in an older home (1950's) is to recommend TESTING for the homeowners of lead/asbestos. The contractor should have informed me of the risk and ask if I wanted to proceed, or get testing done, which he did not. Clearly safety was of no concern to him. Now I'm looking at around $3,000 for asbestos air sampling! --I would absolutely CAUTION anyone against using this company to perform ANY DEMOLITION work on your home. They claim to be qualified to do the job, but the fact that they may have exposed my family to ASBESTOS without my KNOWLEDGE OR CONSENT is HUGE, and the fact that they were less than concerned about it is what concerns me. Ethically, zero stars. This company is NOT legally able to do any asbestos removal work, and they do NOT take any safety precautions when doing their job. The amount of STRESS this entire ordeal has placed on me and my family is SO not worth any minor remodel I would have wanted. If they have done this to me, I have to wonder how many times this has been done to others without their knowledge, and I wonder how much asbestos-containing material has been illegally dumped. Toolin Around- I hope you take this review seriously, because the lack of safety going on is not just dangerous to the health of unsuspecting clients, but it is also illegal. This company should stick to handyman work and not serious construction/ demolition. read more

We have requested for quotes from 3 different handymen and some never responded back, or some came out to check the project, then they'd leave telling us they'll call with an estimate, which they never did. What we wanted done is to have a top part of our cabinet converted into a sort of bypass door closet for our cats. Nothing fancy, 2 pieces of plywood with a rail and handles. Everyone made it sound like it was an impossible job. Not Cory though! Cory came out within a couple days to come give out an estimate and within a week we set up a date to have the project started. I am so pleased with the work done by this business. I put out a request and was answered immediately. They scheduled a time to come out and were prompt and very professional and friendly. I added a Mother-in-Law unit to my property and had a lot of finish projects do be completed including installing a ceiling fan, dog door, shelf, some bathroom fixtures, trimming around the shower and troubleshooting my garbage disposal that stopped working. I was more than pleased that they were able to wire this correctly as it was not done properly in the first place! They also fixed a large window that had come out of it's frame in the main house and fixed two electrical boxes that had the screws painted over making it impossible to remove. Great all around. This business is owned by a Husband and Wife but is growing and adding new employees. The first great thing that set this company apart was how prompt Nicole was at responding to Yelp messages and text messages. Her professionalism was also appreciated. When searching for handy services, many will take a long time to respond and often won't even give you a quote. Cory did a great job with all of the tasks laid out. Since I had so many tasks requested (changing door hinges, changing cabinet hinges, mounting towel bars, changing toilet seats, mounting toilet paper rollers, etc.), I was charged an hourly rate of $65 and I felt it was fair. Unfortunately, an old glass shower door shattered when he was working on trying to remount it on an old bathtub, and I was given compensation for that. It was not his fault since the door was so old but I still appreciate the compensation for it. Work was done in a timely manner as well.
