The carpet in the guest bedroom felt moist, almost wet. Deja vu from 12 years ago! Could this be the same issue? I checked the water heater in the garage and lo and behold, it was wet and water dripping a little on the garage floor. I requested quotes on Yelp for a 40 gallon water heater replacement. This was early friday evening. Responses were immediate, companies wanting to schedule an appointment for an accurate quote. One company had a technician just finished a job and came within half an hour of my initial posting. The quote was astronimcal. Over $3000 to get it done right there and then or about $2900 if done on monday. In addition to the high quote, the scare tactics was just unacceptable. More quotes came in as I entertained the technician from the first company. There was a $2250 quote and then a $1550 quote. I received a response from Richard, Same Day Handyman. He quoted me $325 for labor plus parts. After forwarding photos of my heater, he said not parts were needed. So it was $325.00 + the cost of the heater. Not only did Richard have the lowest quote, I felt at ease with speaking to him on the phone. He seemed down to earth, honest and compassionate with my problem. I asked him if there was any additional charge to do this job on saturday which other companies indicated would cost me more. That was his quote regardless of the day the job needed to get done. Richard was punctual and got everything done in 1.5 hours. He only accepted payment either by check or Zelle which was fine by me. I made a service request the morning I woke up to a leaking pipe. He was quick to respond, so my husband made arrangements for the repair. He came the same day to check the problem, but needed parts so he returned the following day and made the repair. He charged me $250. Later I had estimates come back for much less.... Then 5 days later the same pipe was broken in the same area. It was apparent the repair wasn't done correctly. We quickly asked for the same day handyman to return and hope he would repair it again, but he never returned. We texted a couple times and he said he would be back, but crickets. Later I wrote that I was going to give a bad review and he responded that I was threatening and his truck broke down and it was now raining. Many excuses!!! We ended up hiring a Plummer at advanced plumbing and it was early resolved for $85. Do yourself a favor and don't hire this guy. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review, however as I near the end of my kitchen renovation, I felt it was necessary to make people aware of the issues I had. Richard was responsive and timely, however the quality of work was disappointing. I asked him to put in new recessed lights, and each hole was not cut properly, therefore they all needed to be fixed. Secondly, I had a water leak from the faucet prior to starting demo. I asked if he could fix that after I tore down the wall, and he did - however, he used black gas pipe. The leak continued. I asked him to come out and take a look. He dried it with a rag and said it wasn't leaking. I've attached the picture for reference. It was a slow drip, but it was there. I had to then pay for a licensed plumber to come out and fix it. That plumber had to replace the whole thing, so that was money lost and more money spent. The plumber stated that using black pipe is a huge no-no, and that it should have never been used. I sent him a message letting him know what I was told and asked if he could refund the money to me because he did not fulfill the service correctly, and of course he ignored me. All of the electrical outlets were replaced, and each one was not properly installed. When the drywall was applied, I had to purchase extenders. Another fix. Lastly, he never provided me with the 1st receipt of his HD visit after I had already reimbursed him for materials, so I asked for this a couple of times and he finally provided it to me. After reviewing it, I noticed there was a purchase of rat/mouse traps. I brought it to his attention and he blamed the gal at the register. I have a hard time believing that. He refunded me the amount after I asked. Although it was a small amount, it's the fact that he either forgot to tell me, or intended to get away with it. On top of all of that, he purchased misc. materials that were never used, therefore I was out that cost. $3,000+ was paid to Richard, and I had to spend more to fix all mistakes that were made. I'd say it was a complete waste of money, and they're right when they say to call the professionals. I know he has great reviews, however I would just be careful of what you're getting.
