Where the decaying go to die. I pass by this bar every day on my commute home. Today, I decided to stop in. Everyone in this bar is about to pass away soon. put pictures on the walls are of people who have already passed away. People were stars in the 19 forties and fifties. this place reminds me of the Veterans Administration downtown. a bunch of old dying vets huddle in the corner and listen to late 50's early 60's music. it is actually an awesome looking place, but the palor of death lingers over you from the moment you walked in

Christmas Eve Magic, Molten Cheese, and Dive Bar Greatness!…read more Hello!!!!!! How have I been living in Portland and not known that Sandy Jug Tavern is serving up one of the best burgers in town? We swung by on a very busy Christmas Eve and were immediately hit with that perfect, cozy tavern glow. If you haven't been, the vibe is pure "Old Portland"--historic, unpretentious, and effortlessly cool. We managed to snag a spot near the bar, which was the perfect vantage point to watch the holiday chaos while sipping on our Christmas Old Fashioneds. Our trio went all in: a Juicy Lucy, a Chopped Cheese, and a BLT. I tried to play it safe and go the "healthy" route with the BLT--which was fresh and crisp--but the Juicy Lucy absolutely stole the show! As a group of self-proclaimed burger connoisseurs, we were floored. We're talking a thick, hand-pressed patty stuffed with molten American cheese that literally oozes with every bite. PRO TIP: Exercise some holiday restraint and let it sit for a minute so you don't incinerate your tongue on that delicious cheese lava! Not to be outdone, the Chopped Cheese was a gritty, glorious masterpiece--the perfect NYC-style love child of a cheeseburger and a Philly cheesesteak. Between the historic "Jug" setting, the friendly holiday service, and the cheese-stuffed heaven on a plate, our bellies left very, very happy. This isn't just a meal; it's a PDX rite of passage. We will definitely be back!

Everything we got was so yummy, burgers were amazing for what you get and the fries are the perfect size. The mozzarella sticks did kind of fall apart but overall the flavor was there. And the chicken tenders were both juicy and crispy. Definitely would be back!

They also have a filipino food menu when we're there but we didn't try any. Would be down to come back, especially later at night to catch their last call cookies!

One thing that bothered me though (and I know maybe I'll get hate for this), is I feel like some of the decor is tone deaf. They have a bunch of colonial men ceramic decor, but they partner with and serve food from a Filipino company. I'm Filipino and it was a bit offensive to me because even if the point of having them is trying to make fun of them, it's not really funny. We were colonized for over 300 yrs and still deal with the trauma from it. Please consider removing the colonial decor. I really enjoyed the bar and want to enjoy it in the future, but I don't think it's necessary to have those things in the bar and doesn't add anything to how cool the bar is apart from that. UPDATE: the bar messaged me. They were super professional and kind in their response. I really appreciate that they were open to my perspective on the colonial items and said they will be removed. Thank you so much!! Looking forward to enjoying the bar in the future

I was not disappointed. I tried the Tri Tip sandwich which was smoked out back on the Traeger. Absolutely delicious!!! Service was amazing too!! Loren was awesome!! Super friendly and gave amazing service with a big smile!! Big selection of brewskiis..... plus I had to try their "Swish" which was on their cocktail list. It was amazing!!! I would highly recommend Sidelines as THE BEST sports bars in the PDX area.

It wasn't super busy but it did seem like she was the only wait staff working at the time. We ended up getting some potato skins for the table to share which were pretty good and honestly my favorite appetizer to start off with. My brothers girlfriend and I shared some chicken tenders and my mom and dad shared a club sandwich and a caesar salad, which I stole some bites of, and my brother went with a burger. All great easy things to eat after the flight and to keep us full before heading to a big dinner. This spot is a pretty decent size and super close to the airport so if you are starving after your flight and need a quick bite this spot is easy to run in and grab a quick bite!
