Love this shops so much! It's a little mom and Pop shop right next to Tom's tailgate! Everyone that works here is so sweet and friendly it really is a pleasure coming to Tony's shop! Great prices! A lot of fabric is $2/yard. It's a bit crowded with rolls of fabric, but just ask and if they have it it'll be pulled out. There's lots of ribbon, lace, and decorative trims. Zippers and buttons, too. However, you need to spend time searching. Things aren't packaged and organized like a regular retail store. He takes only cash. read more

Super cheap prices! The fabric I bought was all $2 per yard. Bring cash! It's your typical jobbing store with miscellaneous options, so hit or miss if you need something in particular. It's a paradise for bargain hunting, with prices even better than downtown LA. Tony only speaks Spanish, but his family speaks English. Avoid this store. It would be more accurate to call it a fabric dump. I. Use a walker and there was so much clutter in the isles I couldn't get past the entrance. I told the owner that I needed sewing needles and he didn't carry needles for hand sewing. The store looked like it should be in a ghetto. read more

You cannot go wrong with the prices here, even if it's a bit crowded. I have saved myself many trips to downtown LA by coming here first.

I absolutely loved this place!! I went there for the first time last week. My dad recommended it to me as he only ever passed by while driving. He said you can't miss it, there is fabric spilling out of the doors! That's exactly how I found it!! I went inside and it was verrrrry difficult to walk, the fabric is completely taking over the store in a good way! It's basically from ceiling to floor. I had my baby in my carrier attached to my front and it was almost too tight for us to fit in the "aisles". I hope that helps. It's would be best if you know Spanish or brought someone with you who did speaks Spanish so the owner can help you. He knows where all of his fabric is in the store so it will make it easier. I'm bringing my dad next time to help me since he speaks Spanish. Also, I believe it's cash only. I bought two fabrics, 8 yards in total and I asked if he took a debit card and he said "no card, cash." So luckily he's located RIGHT next to a liquor store and they have an ATM in there just in case you didn't bring cash. Luckily I had JUST enough cash including my lucky $2 bill hopefully it brings luck to his store. I will be back! Probably today!! read more

I walked out of this place with a headache, but it was a pretty cool store. Heard of Tony's through a friend who makes clothing and costumes as a hobby. She has recommended this store to us because of the low prices and the wide variety of fabrics available... she was not kidding about the variety. Upon entering you notice that there is absolutely NO organization to the store. The store is small and packed to the brim with fabrics of all different patterns and colors. The owner, Tony, was semi helpful in selecting the fabric I needed, but was more interested in watching the novel that had the attention of most of the other customers in the store as well. After searching endlessly I finally found a color and pattern that I liked. Tony measured it all out and calculated that my total would be $8 for 4 yards of quality fabric. BARGAIN! Prices usually range from about $2-4 a yard depending on what type of fabric you select. Make sure you come with a color in mind as you will be here all day if you do not have a clue of what you are looking for. read more

TONYS IS NOT CLOSED!!! I was so bummed trying to find a fabric at Joanne's bc they didn't have anything that could work for my Halloween costume. I found this place on Yelp but almost didnt go to check it out bc Yelp reported it as closed. I was driving by and happened to see it not only open, but giant bolts of fabric pouring out of the doors. What a selection!!! I felt like I was on an adventure digging thru the giant rolls of fabric. And it's not just fabric.... lace, leathers, thread, baskets, zippers, buttons, ribbons...... everything you could need!!! I paid $1.50 a yard for each fabric I chose (others might be more expensive) and a huge cone of thread was $0.75!! I can't believe I've paid $3 for a tiny thing of thread of Joanne's. This is definitely the place to go for all your sewing and crafting needs!!! read more

Tony's is located off a busy street in a pretty dingy row of stores. Inside, yes, this place is incredibly disorganized. It's like a fabric forest jungle. The countless rolls of fabric are stacked together like tall multicolored trees, which will definitely take you aback because of the chaos. If you do come here, you better know exactly what you're looking for. There is no arrangement of fabrics by color or type, you'd just have to wiggle through the tight and cramped maze of drapes of linens and suede to find what you need. I came in and tried to elicit the help of Tony by showing him a picture, to no avail. He is quite old and doesn't really speak English, so I just went around the store looking for what I needed myself, and I did find it! When I called to ask Tony to help me take out the tightly wedged roll, he disappeared, and for a while. I called out multiple times and he didn't appear until way later. Hence, not much help. Eventually he rang me up - quite slowly - and for three types of fabric totaling to 3.5 yards, I spent less than $6. Freaking fantastic. I don't even care how messy the store was, or how Tony wandered off and all. I found what I needed, and it was super cheap. Come knowing what you need and you'll get it for a bargain price! read more

So many materials and super cheap! I walked out with a trash bag full of fabric for $42. $1.50/yard for most basic materials, $1 for 4 yards of elastic. You will have to dig to get the fabrics out so try to bring someone strong with you to help!! Also it takes some searching if you are looking for something specific as it isn't super organized and materials are hiding since it's such a small store with so much in it. Worth the savings though!!! read more

Tony's speaks Spanish, not very good English, sometimes wanders off with no one in the store. Store is a mess, but who cares. This place is a seamstress heaven. Unbelievable amount of fabrics and thousands of various buttons which you have to sort out for yourself. But pricing is supremo !! Real bargain price which you'll never get anywhere. I got some various buttons and Tony actually asked me to name a price. If you love sewing clothes for your kids or yourself, this is the place to be. read more

This fabric store is a tiny hole in the wall off of Lambert and Gunn in Whittier. There are two VERY tight isles full of bolt after bolt of fabric. I can maybe see 2-3 people tops browsing in here at a time because of how cramped it is. It's a tiny space. There's no true organization, so this is not the place to go if you have some specific colors or themes in mind. This is the place to go when you want some inexpensive fabric for a project that you haven't even thought of yet haha. I use this place as inspiration rather than a place to shop for something in progress. The gentleman I spoke with told me that one side was priced $2/yard (!!!!) and that the other side was $3/yard (!!!!). There's a good mix of prints, cottons, vinly, leather, tafeta, sheers, etc. Like I said, it really is a toss up what you'll find. There are also some misc. buttons, trim, etc, but it's all very mixed. I even found a whole box of Y2K preparedness patches. I walked away with about 3-4 yards of fabric for $5. CASH ONLY read more

I went yesterday 9/1/14 to look for fabric for a baby dress I wanted to do. Since the lady I usually go to was closed, I figured hey why not give it another chance? I went there once before about a year ago, but felt too clausterphobic & overwhelmed by how messy & unorganized it was. When I went yesterday. Same deal unorganized. I was looking at the ribbon and the ones I was looking at & wanted to get were all stained with something red or just super dirty. The guy who was there the first time I went was not helpful at all, a little rude even. I bought some stuff that were cheap, stained but cheap but I will never be going there again. Not worth going through piles of stuff only to find it not worth what he is pricing it for. Also not worth the discomfort being in a overly messy place. This place is still in business. Not sure why yelpers are saying its out of business. I am surprised they're still in business though. It always looks empty. read more
