What else to say about Chaupain, except it's always exceptional?…read more I'm biased - but their pastries have got to be the best in OC. This is the 3rd Chaupain location I've been to, I happened to be in the area. It's smaller than the one on La Paz in LN to be sure, but ample size enough to provide anyone with full tastes of their amazing goods. I like everything - I've tried nearly all of their pastries and cakes, this time I tried the cinnamon roll- which was insanely good, soft, and tasted of such quality. Actually - never tried their quiche, which is certainly on a bucket list for next time. I highly recommend everything they have - but just to name a new, the guava cream cheese, cinnamon cream cheese, mixed berry bateau, opera cake, vanilla scone, any of their croissants, lemon tiramisu, and the jamon sandwich is incredible - I love that the bread had a chewy texture, which is perfect for this sandwich. Adding any of the American condiments would almost be a sacrilege, but a bit of dijon is good, which they have there in packets- the flavours work so well together. I really struggle to restrain myself when coming here, which necessary for your wallet and your waistline - but whatever you decided it's all good here. The customer service was also stellar - very friendly, helpful, and personable. Thank you !

My family loves the spinach cheese and mixed berry croissant. They have a variety of croissants, tarts, cakes, quiches, sandwiches - and entree items like French onion soup, and the sunrise sandwich which are both very good. Today I found Chaupan Bakery which has the most buttery, freshest, crispiest and light croissants I've had since Paris, and I just have to share it with everyone. The last croissant I got in Paris was hot so I'm sure it would be even better in that state, but right now I just have to share that this is the closest you're going to get to a real genuine French croissant!! Now I have to find out what time the croissants are still hot so I can make a special trip then!! The service was spot on. You just walk up to the counter, there's a girl Lindy just waiting to help you. She's very friendly and then the cashier was especially nice. It was just an overall awesome morning.

I walked back in and the line for food/drinks was out the door. I saw our barista Rayan with so many orders in the queue and I mentioned to him the correction on the order, and that if they can help that he could take his sweet time. Within a minute, he called me over with my drink ready. Him and the manager on call that morning were so awesome and solution oriented. Also, they didn't make me feel bad about the correction. Can not recommend Rayan and Chaupain enough, the best!

I arrived at this place by accident (wanted to try a place nearby, didn't feel it, and on my way…read moreback to the car I saw this French bakery). I'm typically suspicious of French cafes, they never really hit the spot, and not because I try them with the expectation of getting a true French style product, but I'm just very often disappointed by the general quality. I'm so glad I gave this a go. We tried both savory and sweet pastries, and they were all absolutely delicious. To the point that I ordered a few more to go. The croissant with cream and berry was gorgeous, not overly sweet, which is sadly so rare, and the feta cheese and mushroom pastry was amazing. The person behind the counter was also super sweet and helpful. If I were a local, this would be my almost daily spot.

One thing I love is that everything is freshly made in-house, and they have a nice variety of sweet and savory options. I tried their pumpkin spice latte and mini pumpkin pie, which were perfect for the fall season. For brunch, we got the Little France Club and French toast. We also sampled several of their pastries, including the hazelnut croissant roll, almond croissant, lemon macaron, and raspberry macaron. There's a little bit of everything here, whether you're stopping by for coffee and a pastry or sitting down for a brunch date. I personally thought it was a little excessive for the everyday person or family looking to grab breakfast. Don't get me wrong, the food was PHENOMENAL! We tried a couple of different things for the first time, and everything was delicious. I'm the type of person who doesn't mind spending a little extra on food as long as the quality justifies it, and they definitely delivered in that department. We actually came across this place on TikTok, and since it was only about a 12-minute drive, we figured why not give it a shot? The staff was great, the service was friendly, and most importantly, my wife and little one left happy. That's always a win in my book! Now, I'll be the first to admit I'm a bit of a cheapskate , but hear me out. For what we spent on breakfast for 2 adults and a 3-year-old, we honestly could've gone down the street to Broken Yolk and practically had steaks for breakfast! With that being said, I definitely see us coming back, just probably not for a casual Friday breakfast. This feels more like a place we'd visit to celebrate something special, whether it's a birthday, promotion, anniversary, or just a little family treat. Overall, amazing food, great staff, and a happy family walking out the door. Just be prepared to spend a little more than your typical breakfast spot. Would I recommend it? Absolutely. Would I come every weekend? My wallet says no.

Jen went with the Southwest Breakfast Sandwich and I opted for the Breakfast Burrito with Chorizo. Jen also had a cappuccino and I had a cafe mocha. Jen liked her sandwich and I tried a small bite. More of a lunch taste for me. My burrito was very upscale. All ingredients finely diced and the red sauce gave it a good kick. Jen liked my choice as well. A lovely woman was dining alone and Jen asked her about her dish. It was the BBLT and she highly recommended it, especially if you love bacon (hence the B.B. - double bacon). With breakfast out of the way, we looked at all their bakery options. Jen selected their Bananas Foster Knock Knock and a Lemon Shortbread Square. I went with an Original Knock Knock and their Chocolate Decadent Cake. Jen liked her Knock Knock. I'm saving mine but sure I'll enjoy. The store is large enough to browse items and not feel like you are in the way of others. As for dining, good amount of seating outside. Noise depends on who's there and how many. This is now in our breakfast/lunch rotation. I look forward to trying their salads, sandwiches or perhaps a burger.

I was confused when I was looking around inside because I didn't see any English muffins, but I had read that that's what they're known for. When I asked someone who worked there, they said that their "manna buns" were English muffins. Against my better judgment I bought a pack of 6. Another reviewer describes them well as being closer to hamburger buns. They are not griddled, but baked, so you don't have the signature crust from griddle contact on both sides like an English muffin. Also from being baked or possibly faster fermentation than standard, the interior is missing the caverns so it's just a consistent texture the whole way through, no nooks and crannies. The croissant was unremarkable, the cookie too decadent and overly sweet. The only saving grace of this place is that the staff were super nice. Seems very much a local spot, but as someone just passing through, I would recommend heading elsewhere for bread.
