We travel to visit family in Texas and always cross the border to do some shopping and eating. Because of the pandemic, we wanted to eat outdoors and preferably not on the street. That's what led us to try Tony's. We had to enter through the Canada store and go up the escalator. It's spacious and well decorated. The staff was quick to greet us and lead us out onto the balcony.
The adults ordered margaritas and the kids ordered sodas. I was not a fan of the margarita. It had no sweetness or taste of lime. I drank one and had no interest in another. The other adults in our party seemed to like them well enough and ordered more. They gave me the olives from their margaritas so I was happy enough.
I ordered the enchiladas with chicken. They were good but not amazing. We got a dish of jalapenos and taking small slices of those with each bite made them even better. The meal came with rice and beans. Everything was just OK. Our party also ordered tamales, Panchos, and the Mexican plate. Everyone seemed to agree with my assessment. The food was average. The Mexican plate came with a small slice of cake at the end. I have no idea what it was but it was delicious. I took one bite and promptly ordered more for the table. We loved that cake!
The service was a little on the slow side but the views and the attention to detail made up for it. It wasn't my favorite restaurant in Nuevo Progresso but it certainly wasn't the worst either. For outdoor eating during pandemic times, it was great. If our next visit is during non-pandemic times, I'll probably go back to another restaurant that I liked a little better. read more
