Providing quality food since 1955.Have to be doing something right to stay in business that long!This place is located in a border town which is very lively for day shoppers/tourists.The restaurant is popular with locals as well as visitors.Old school decor does not do much on the eye but service is amazing.Not over the top,servers are just on it.Guacamole was one of the best,delicious salsa and my chicken mole was very tasty.Tried some goat which was cooked perfectly.Prices very reasonable,the Bloody Mary's got a thumbs down for being too salty.All in all a good experience.Bathrooms have attendants who make sure all is well with cleanliness. read more

This is a very nice place. The service is quick and courteous. Margaritas appeared almost like magic when the previous one was empty. The clientele was mostly Americans, which I expect is the point of the restaurant. Perhaps though that is also why the food was just meh. Everything that my party received was presented well, but it was missing the flavor that I expect when I get food in Mexico. About halfway through our meal, we caught the attention of our main waiter and asked for hot sauce. Once we received that, it improved things a lot. I had the Arturo's plate. I was good except I'm not sure how one was supposed to eat the tacos on the plate without cracking the shell and having the contents go everywhere. It was fork and knife food even though it was a taco. If you are going south of the border but ordering food on the street isn't your thing, then Arturo's is a great place to go. A nice menu, well-kept restaurant and restrooms, excellent service. If you're a foodie and the flavor and soul in the food is a bigger priority, then head out to the street and see what you can manage to get to eat. read more

I'm debating between two and three stars on this place. It was clean, the waiters were friendly, and the restrooms were clean. I had a pretty good first impression of the place. The food wasn't great. We ordered a kids beef taco plate, enchiladas suizas, chicken tacos progresso, a chicken quesadilla plate, and an Arturo's special plate. We ended up passing plates around the table trying everything. All of it was bland. I tried to add some flavor with salsa, Pico, and salt. We ended up asking for the hottest sauce they had. That helped a lot! We ate it, but I would never go back. We ate at Pancho's a few days before and the food there was so much better. Honestly, it was pretty disappointing. read more

Best tortilla soup I've ever had. It was full of chicken, and strips of tortillas. Garnished with avocado and Panela cheese. It was amazing!! My sister had the entomatadas - she said they were very good. I tasted the beans (they were perfect), she said the rice was delicious. Food was excellent. read more

The price is somewhat high but the service is unmatched. I especially come here for the great parking and wonderful dishes. I always stop here when I visit. I have so many memories coming here as a kid often and every few years or so as an adult. My parents still recognize the same waiters that have been there that long. That just goes to show how great this place is and the staff enjoy it apparently. I normally get something small or lunch to save room for all the beer and margaritas, but I suggest you at least try one of their main dishes because they never disappoint. read more

Probably the nicest restaurant in Nuevo Progresso, MX. Service was impeccable. The waiters are all dressed in deep maroon tux-like jackets, starched white shirts and black pants. They were very attentive, without being obtrusive. Our water glasses and drinks never ran dry. And they kept us well supplied with chips and salsa. The menu varied from run of the mill bar food to some fancier offerings, such as tenderloin steak. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I certainly enjoyed my fried shrimp meal. Several folks had the coconut shrimp meal and two others had combo fajitas. Another enjoyed the catfish meal. The margaritas were STOUT! Definitely not watered down. read more

Definitely the 5 star restaurant on this strip in Nuevo Progresso! Some of the BEST mexican food here. Phenomenal service and above par food experience. The level of service and the quality of food is very reminiscent of Garcia's Restaurant in Matamoros. You'll get a quality tableside service at Arturos. Quite a leap ahead of what mostly all other restaurants offer. I definately recommend Arturos if your visiting! read more

Y'all. I'm honestly not one to review- good or bad- but am quite confused/insulted after my visit to Arturo's today. Previous visits have been fine. After being seated, I ordered Agua Purificato. They brought me a glass bottle of topo Chico. OK, maybe they don't have just plain bottled water. Then I ordered beef panchos, which on the menu were $13.95. Even though the restaurant wasn't crowded, it took quite a while for my order. Fine. the panchos arrived but did not have guacamole on them, like they were supposed to, (according to the menu), so I flagged my waiter down and pointed to my plate, and said Panchos? Guacamole? He said "ah si!". He brought a small plate of mashed avocado. The 'beef fajitas' was thin (2mm) slices of basically fat. When he brought the check, my total owed was $22.65. For nachos & a bottle of water. In a Mexican border town. I just paid it and left. I'm not sure if I was charged the " naïve American price" or if it was an honest mistake, but either way, I don't think I will return. There are several other popular restaurants when day tripping in an Nuevo Progreso. read more

This is my go-to whenever I am in Progreso. Even if I'm not really hungry, I will go anyway because the waiters are extremely friendly and know me. It's a nice place to check-in to on a hot day when you're parched from crossing the bridge in the South Texas heat. read more

The service was okay. The restroom was clean. If you are expecting an American style service, don't. I had to make a mental adjustment. With that being said, the servers were kind but the food was blah. My cousin potato was spoiled and brown. My food didn't come out with the others. Actually, the waiter didn't even put my food in. I did receive it quickly. It came with guacamole and queso, which I had to remind my waiter for. My margarita was EXCELLENT. I'm assuming it's buy one, get one free ‍. This place has been a fav for a long time, since perhaps the high school days. You really can't beat a nice lounge, a/c and smoke inside. I absolutely love the chairs and the 2 for 1 special, they make a good margarita on the rocks, everything else, hmm a different story haha.. let's just say an old fashion is not a traditional ol fashion, but hey its mexico!! My sister's and I have been coming to Arturo' s Restraunts since the 80's. We use to go to the one in Reynosa Tam. We don't go over there no more. We feel safe and enjoy coming to Nuevo Progresso. So we kept the tradition going and love coming to this location. I ordered the combination plate one cheese enchilada one tamale one taco and some guacamole salad and rice and beans. My sis- in-law ordered three beef enchiladas with bean soup and rice. My sis ordered the cablito and we split our meals and both were deeelish! The cablito was tender and juicy! We were served again by DANIEL who is a wonderful EXPERIENCE server. Ask for him if you happened to stop on by! :-) p.s. I did it again forgot to take pictures of the food! We had a fantastic lunch from the lunch menu. My wife ordered off the regular menu 3 rolled chicken tacos with mole sauce that was amazing and I had the pork tips off the lunch menu, awesome sauce. The other 2 had the broiled trout. Excellent service, good food, good price. read more

Best margaritas you'll ever have. Authentic and delicious Mexican food in an upscale atmosphere. Been coming here for over 20yrs and have never been disappointed. Our family's favorite place to eat in NP. With a meal, buy 1 get 1 free drinks. Highly recommend the shrimp cocktail, pico de gallo, fresh/hot tortilla chips, cheese enchiladas and of course, the margaritas. Free, safe parking. Have a two margarita lunch and work off that buzz shopping. A great day trip from SPI. We look forward to it every time we come to Texas. read more

I went with high expectations with my mom and husband. I've grown up getting great Mexican food at local places in Mexico since I am an RGV native. My husband and I ordered fish-he the fish tacos and me the breaded fish from the lunch special. My mother ordered a chicken plate with tomatillo. They looked good on the menu but once we took the first bite we knew it was a mistake. The chicken seemed undercooked and the fish had a weird taste. I would not go back for the main food again. The only thing we liked that did not hurt our stomachs was the choriquezo. That was a great appetizer. The service was great but the food is horrible. No recomiendo este lugar para la comida. The classiest place in NP! Waiters dressed up, white linens and attentive service. Get a meal worthy of a $50 per person price tag for less than half of that. I had the avocado cocktail, frog legs and brandy flan, excellent overall. read more

We are never disappointed when we go to Arturo's, the food is excellent, the service is out of this world and the piano player is fantastic.

This is my favorite place to eat on the entire earth. Maybe if I lived closer than 2000 miles to it I might go often enough to think less highly likely of it but I don't. With dinner the first margarita costs $3.50 and the second one is free and you will be hard pressed to find a better margarita anywhere. I always start with the shrimp cocktail with fresh gulf shrimp and a spicy Mexican sauce. Follow it up with one of their special entrees and I doubt you willhe disappointed. read more
