My wife had platiada, which is braised brisket, served with the sauce like it was pot roast. She had want pastel de choclo, but the waiter explained they only serve it when fresh corn is available, otherwise they would need to use frozen corn, which La Flor de Chile wasn't going to do. Bravo. I did go off the reservation and ordered the vegetarian chorillana - which is fries, cheese, grilled onions and in this case sauteed veggies substituted for the chipped beef. I added the fried egg option. Big plate, as chorillana's origin is a big share plate of late night, post drinking bar food. But it was worth trying and I may order again. Down side - at meal times - in this case about 13:00 for lunch, the place filled up. At dinner time folks tend to sit and talk after eating ,not freeing up tables for those waiting. This custom of 'sobremesa' after dinner chat is part of the culture and just roll with it.

We had the choice to sit inside or outside and we chose a spot outside with a fantastic view of the pacific coast line. My DH and I both ordered the queso empanadas that were good. We had fish the day before so my DH chose beef and I had the chicken. Neither was anything special as were the sides. My dessert was an ice cream with almonds that had a freezer burn taste but my DH said his sherbet was good. With a bus load of about 40 people descending on the restaurant at once, the service was good. Our server did not speak any English but we managed to order without a problem. The food was mediocre but the view was outstanding bb

We couldn't believe we hadn't heard of it before as it's within walking distance for us. So off we went. Apparently we weren't the only ones with the same idea. There were crowds waiting in line. And it was one of the hottest days in Viña! They said it would be a 20 minute wait but we soon realized they said this to everyone! Not sure how long we waited but I got a good sunburn :-( Finally we were seated. The Menu of the Day, for less than $10, included a cup of Beef Consomé, a small salad, choice of one of several main dishes (my husband's chicken milanesa won out over my Carne Mechada ([braised beef which was a bit dry] ), a side ( we both opted for the mashed potatoes (puré) which was great). And our choice of a drink, on weekends only included a delicious Pisco Sour. Otherwise you could choose a beer or fruit juice. Next time I'd like to try their meatballs for and pasta. Our friends strayed from the Menu Del Dis and ordered Pastel de Choclo. It was a really large portion, on the sweet side, but highly recommendable. Portions are so big that we didn't have room for dessert. We took food home and were a little surprised there was a small charge for the take-out containers but that's ok. The service was friendly and good even though they were so busy. We'll definitely be back. Not sure I'd come back on a weekend though but great value for a home-cooked meal in Viña!

Absolutely Amazing Seafood & Service - A Must in Viña del Mar!…read moreI had one of the best meals of my trip at Donde Willy. The seafood was out of this world--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully prepared. The machas a la parmesana were the perfect start, rich and savory with just the right crisp. The sea urchins were incredibly fresh, with a delicate sweetness that melted in the mouth, and the sea bass was cooked perfectly--tender, flaky, full of flavor. What really made the experience even better was the service. Our waiter Denick was absolutely outstanding--attentive, kind, and knowledgeable. He gave great recommendations and made us feel truly welcomed. You could tell he really cares about the guests having a great time. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy, perfect for enjoying such high-quality food. If you're in Viña del Mar and love seafood, this place is a must. I'll definitely be coming back!

Location: La Concepcion is perched on Cerro Concepcion, one of Valparaiso's signature hills. The outdoor dining area overlooks the Valparaiso's port and the Pacific Ocean. Food: Easily on par with some of the best restaurants in NYC. First off, the complimentary whole-grain bread they serve is delicious. Our first night, I had the squash soup to start which was outstanding, with a really nice depth of flavor. I followed that with the Crab ravioli which certainly lived up to the hype! Each ravioli encases an impressive amount of crab meat and the accompanying cream sauce makes for a truly divine main. My second night, I started with the ceviche and followed with the braised beef with pumpkin gnocchi, which were both very good, although out of everything I ordered, the crab ravioli reigned supreme. Drinks: I had a Manhattan each night, which was well-made. The bottle of Chilean Cabernet Sauvignon we ordered to accompany our meal had nice depth of flavor and went well with beef. Service: Top-notch. Waitstaff did a great job making sure our needs were attended to and provided helpful recommendations. Overall: A must when in Valparaiso!
