Old place, nostalgic decorations, classic menu. When we visit Chile we want Chilean food. A solid Pisco Sour with the shaker left at the table for the refill. My wife had platiada, which is braised brisket, served with the sauce like it was pot roast. She had want pastel de choclo, but the waiter explained they only serve it when fresh corn is available, otherwise they would need to use frozen corn, which La Flor de Chile wasn't going to do. Bravo. I did go off the reservation and ordered the vegetarian chorillana - which is fries, cheese, grilled onions and in this case sauteed veggies substituted for the chipped beef. I added the fried egg option. Big plate, as chorillana's origin is a big share plate of late night, post drinking bar food. But it was worth trying and I may order again. Down side - at meal times - in this case about 13:00 for lunch, the place filled up. At dinner time folks tend to sit and talk after eating ,not freeing up tables for those waiting. Flor de Chile was recommended to us by a local who said it was the best restaurant in town. And based on the number of locals packed into the restaurant late at night, it certainly seemed like he pointed us in the right direction. Even though the waiter warned us that it'd take 30 minutes to prepare, we ordered the Tortilla Flor De Chile, which was a massive Spanish style tortilla filled with ham, chorizo, peppers, and onions. This massive dish was worth the wait. The potatoes had an excellent crust and it was generously filled with meat. It served as a very filling dinner for my wife and I, and we had enough left over for it to also serve as breakfast for the next morning. Considering it ended up being four meals, it was also a tremendous value. Our dinner at La Flor de Chile was exactly what we were hoping for with our one night in Vina del Mar - a restaurant that featured local Chilean culture and great tasting food. read more
