It's called a Blue Angel and don't let the name deceive you - this little beauty led me astray. And I let her. For cocktail shakers and Tom Cruise-wannabe's here's the ingredients for making one: - 1 oz brandy - 1/2 oz blue curacao liqueur - 1/2 oz vanilla liqueur - 1/2 oz half-and-half - 1 dash lemon juice There are better cocktails out there but this one reminds me of warm beaches, sparkling seas and healthy people loving life. While L'Antiquario specializes in the shady speakeasy style and variations on classic prohibition cocktails, Platanos is a bit different. The bar space is colorful and hip, and the bartenders are friendly and chatty. We were there fairly early on a Saturday night and the place was dead, but that meant we got to spend some time with the bartenders Giuseppe and Raffaele as they mixed up our drinks. This place is an interesting fusion of a tiki bar and a cocktail bar. It's less about that 60's island fantasy and more like ... modern tropical hip. But the cocktails were solid and the atmosphere was fun. I enjoyed a Canchanchara with Havana Club 7 year, honey spiced syrup and lime. Simple and delicious. I then enjoyed the Ceylon Old Fashioned - which uses Arrak, palm sugar, añejo rum, pineapple bitters and orange curaçao. My partner had their Platanos Daiquiri, which was blended with fresh bananas. All the drinks were good and fairly balanced. The prices are average for a good cocktail bar in Italy and we'd happily come back again.
