If you bring equipment in for repairs be careful that you learn how everything works, because I have good reason to believe Julian the owner likes to charge for repairs he didnt do. I brought in a Denon DP 1200 turntable which has a very unique playing system. You have to move the tonearm over the record, and then you can move the play lever into position. When I brought it in I didnt know this, and I was showing Julian how the lever didnt work and the strobe didnt light up as well. Of course it lights up after you move the arm then move the lever. I guess Julian thought this was pretty funny and that if I didnt know how to operate it ,I deserved to be charged for the few minutes he had to look at it and talk with me. So he charged me $180 for something to do with the wiring, and some new electronic piece I believe . So about a week after bringing it in he calls me to say its ready and that he wants to know if I want to sell it. Im sure he asked me more than once ,and told me how much he likes it a few times, and after I told him I wanted to keep it, I could tell that he was pissed off about it, for a couple reasons too complicted to get into now. Anyhow ,the gentleman I bought this turntable from told me everything I bought from him works ,and that was about 10 pieces all mint-, and all working perfectly. I didnt bother calling to complain since i figured I got a great deal anyhow, and he may have just forgot about the Denon not working. Now though after putting the pieces of the puzzle together, I DONT THINK SO ! I am certain that the deck was working fine ,and that Julian is just one of those guys who gets pissed when he doesnt get his way, and will do whatever he wants to get even including riopping people off if he thinks he is smarter than you and will get away with it . When I picked it up ,Juslian wasnt there , another guy was there. I paid him the $180 and he never bothered to show me how to work the thing ! Obviously Julian knew I didnt know how to use it,and even if he pretended not to know himself when I showed him,and he learned later he should have easily remembered that I didnt how how to make it work, and told the guy that was there to show me,or call me,leave a note whewatever . Of course I believe though that Julian knew exactly how it worked when he saw me try to use it, since hes probably seen several of these by now being in the audiophile equipment business. Then last week when I went there to get a receiver I had fixed there, thre was nobody there ,and I assumed they were closed since it was a holiday weekend. So as I am walking, or somewhat limping up Dundas west(Ive had 4 knee surgeries) I go by someone who suddenly looked familiar . As I passed him, I realized it was Makenzie from the store. I was a bit surprised he never said hey Steve I just went out for lunch ! Nothing ! So I went back got the receiver and went home. Now I can see why maybe he didnt say anything to me, since I was that loser that Julian ripped off,and why bother treating me like a regular customer, and talk to me. I would have wasted about 1/2 hr of my time for nothing if I didnt notice him. So there you go people, you can decide from everything Ive said. I say beware if you say anything at all to piss him off, or you have something he really wants for himself. He just might say its beyond repair then fix it himself or something ! Thats another story because I have brought him several things that were in great shape and seemed like simple fixes ,or possibly so from this moderately knowledgable stereo afficenado ,and I was told that they were all beyond repair. No more Julian , there are other stereo repair places that I am sure are more honest than you are ! read more
