I am a professional musician, and I have recorded all over LA. And I can say this is the BEST place to record. For the cost of an hourly rehearsal space, each of the three times we tried to come here, AT LEAST 30 minutes of our time was spent with the owner setting up a mixer and cables, etc. which SHOULD'VE been done prior to us getting there and prior to us paying. On top of that, when I asked for XLR cables or music stands, I got a side eye and attitude. Each time we went he charged us a little more until finally on the third time, charged us per head (even someone who just came in to use the bathroom) and said that he was giving us a "discount" on what the price should've been. Paid about $65 the first time and paid about $130 the third time. How does that make sense at all for the same space and same amount of people?? Please save yourself the time and money. This small rehearsal room is not worth what they're charging for it.

For: creative artists, outboard lovers, big mixes, natural sounds, unique arrangements, live…read moreinstruments, nit-picky audiophiles, down-to-earth humans with musical integrity Not for: sterile tracks, over-compressed nonsense, get-in-get-out, fads, knock-offs, cheap plugins, iZotope presets, chumps. Dave is a lifelong music maker and it's obvious. It's obvious by his (very hand-picked and constantly-evolving) collection of outboard gear and vintage microphones, by his scarily-sharp ear (can pinpoint problem frequency in kick drum from two football fields), and by his humble, head-down attitude towards music. I've been in and out of studios since my first summer cable-wrapping internship at Studio West in high school (2008)--from beachy San-Diego home studios to SF bay middle-of-the-roaders to Stephen Still's home-studio and Dave Aron's (Snoop Dog, Dr. Dre, Prince) platinum-lined monster--and I go to Dave. Because folks with his talent and integrity and unique amount of personal (and monetary) investment are near-impossible to find. This place is the real-deal. Go here to make some magic.

The one I recorded in had this awesome Moulin-Rouge vibe and it was tricked out with everything you could ever need. As a lowly narrator, I can't tell you all the details about tech specs and whatnot, but I trust my publishing house only books the best. Tim was the most warm and friendly guy and put me right at ease (which goes a long way in this industry and in life in general--some folks are just technically competent but completely relationally incompetent, unfortunately). It was so cool to get a chance to get a peek into his awesome microcosm tucked away in Highland Park. Highly recommend.

This review is long overdue, but the praise can't go unsung for Tim at York Recording. My band…read morerecorded our debut album there and couldn't be more pleased with every part of the experience. We bumbled around with a couple amateur producers and home studios before discovering York. This is the real deal if you want to record, mix, edit or master anything resembling legitimate-sounding music, voice-overs or podcasts. Tim took the time to meet us ahead of committing and gave us a great vibe and tour of his studio. Once we pulled the trigger, he was super professional but also relaxed and fun to be around. It was like recording with an old friend, but in a high-end studio with top-notch gear. The vibe of York also attracted us: tastefully decorated and adorned with cool stuff, not to mention the cherry vintage gear he has available. As a drummer, I salivated at some of his snares! Guitars, drums, keys, amps, mics and pres, all sweet as pie. Not to mention his digital stuff, high-end emulators and plugins all hooked into a HD ProTools rig. Best of both worlds. Speaking of which, Tim is literally the Billy the Kid of ProTools. He's smoking fast and the only thing that held us up was us! We tracked our entire album over two weekends which is crazy quick (it can take anywhere from a few weeks to months for an album) and returned for mixing. Because of the efficiency, we ended up spending less than on our 6-song E.P. that didn't sound half as good. Tim gave us sage advice and lent himself to produce, but also gave us complete creative control. His ears are amazing and his decades of engineering experience really showed. It really helped us at every step. I'm still amazed at how good the mix sounds on every system I play it on -- car, phone, earbuds. It just translates so well and I'm even more convinced than before (not that I doubted) that his informed intention behind every decision was the best for our project. We look forward to working with him again in the future! Thanks Timbo! P.S. We were there this past summer in the middle of COVID-19. Tim wears a mask in-session and keeps his place meticulously clean and sanitized. There was plenty of space to keep distance and we felt very safe.
