We arrived in Tampa early for the Lightning hockey game and an acquaintance recommended this place…read morefor supper. We arrived about 4:15pm and the place was already packed with revelers (a good sign). We squeezed in just in time, as they had a lone table available for us! We ordered a 10 count of wings, served "Dave's" way, a Cubano and a Philly sandwich (to split and share the sandwiches to try them both out). One sandwich came with fries and the other pasta salad. Cold beers arrived quickly, and it was a nice bonus that happy hour was taking place. The food was actually quite delicious and came out hot and ready. I enjoyed BOTH sandwiches, but if I HAD to chose only one next time I would have to go with the Philly! It was very flavorful, with the meat was so tender and the whole thing just melting in my mouth. I would go out of my way just for that sandwich again - BURP! The chicken wings were perfectly done and I liked "Dave's" way of doing business. I'd get those again, albeit I would be tempted to also try some of the other seasoning/sauces. The fries were really good as well. I did not taste the pasta salad, as I was too full, so my partner was on his own. The place is loud, so don't expect a romantic low-toned conversation. Just saying. It's is a sports bar after all, and a very popular one at that. When we left there was a line out the door of folks waiting to get in (another good sign). As for the service - we had great service by our waitress. She was a busy bee too, bouncing from table to table. We did not experience, or witness, any "rude" behavior on the part of the staff as several reviewers claim they did.

This time I was in here for the shepherd's pie. From being here before, I'd seen someone else order it and noticed it comes in a mini cast iron; he serving option alone is already promising. The shepherd's pie is absolutely delicious, no notes. The mash on top was broiled with just enough crisp, so smooth and creamy underneath. The ground meat below was cooked hot with smoke, and every bite was hearty and rich, with noticeable touches of herb. I don't like peas, so the shepherd's pie here coming with carrots instead makes it even better for me, and the crispy shallots on top give an occasional crunch. So far I've tried three dishes here, and I've been happy with all of them. These dishes are the kind I'd come back for, but this really solidifies the impression that most, if not all, of the menu would be worth trying. Pair that with the friendly, attentive staff and the relaxing atmosphere, and this is for sure a top pick.

The menus were kind of old and a little soiled so if the food is good here I will never know because I wouldn't touch the menus. Sat at the bar and asked for the name of a beer they had on tap. She gave me a generic answer and it turns out she was right. It was just called Channelside IPA. Still the interaction wasn't very pleasant and in fact was a little awkward. Definitely didn't feel welcome. Also didn't help that I am naturally a smart Alec. All I know is we definitely didn't click. I settled in on a Smithwicks Red Ale. Finished my beer and promptly left. The experience was Meh. The beer was good though.
