Best dinner in a month of dinners across western Europe.
Tom's Square opened just five months ago. Tom himself waited on us, and he's as affable and hospitable as any restauranteur I've met.
The restaurant is charming and modern in shades of gray and bright yet soft lighting. The space is very comfortable with upholstered seats, chill background music, and interesting art. But the highlight is the open kitchen where you can see the chef preparing the dishes.
Tom welcomed us at the door, gave us our choice of seats, and helped us with the wine list. The wine was local, delicious, and affordable.
The menu was on a chalkboard, changing daily. And in French only, so Tom helped us understand the offerings. I asked for recommendations, and I ended up with the codfish starter, the hake main, and chocolate fondue for dessert.
What a meal! Everything was impeccably fresh, inventive, tasty, and well-balanced. The starter was so beautiful and tasty it made my toes curl. The hake was substantial, perfectly cooked, and served on a bed of vegetables I couldn't identify but which were pretty, tasty, and a lovely companion to the fish. And of course dessert was beautiful, like a little lava cake with Ice cream. I left floating on a cloud of food love.
Food love, and Tom's Square love. read more
