Six of us had lunch there - three of us had the famous Nicoise daube or beef stew - 2 with gnocchi and one with ravioli (I think the ravioli was better!). Two of us had the salmon on fennel and the last person had the beautiful lamb chops. We also shared a foie gras appetizer. Everything was delicious and exceptionally well prepared. I ordered the gnocchi with gorgonzola and it tasted foul like the cheese or milk in it had gone bad. It was stomach curdling and instantly took away my appetite the flavor was that offensive. I asked my family member to taste it aswell to confirm and she experienced the same taste. I told the manager that I did not like it at all and I would like to order something else. He took the gnocchi and threw it in the trash and was very upset. He told me that the gnocchi was good. I just didn't like it and nothing was wrong and I was the problem. I laughed that off and asked for linguine with pesto, which was extremely bland and completely devoid of any flavor. The staff were very angry at me because I did not like that dish. When I went to pay the bill, I noticed the gnocchi was still on my bill. They refused to remove it from the bill despite throwing it in the trash without my permission. They told me their family had been making the pasta for 100 years and that nothing could be wrong with it. The entire staff then surrounded me like a gang and took turns telling me I was wrong and the problem. I told them that if I had to pay for the food, it should not have been thrown in the trash and I should've kept it as it was my property that I paid for and I should have been informed it would have stayed on the bill. They explained that they were punishing me because they were so offended I didn't like their family recipe and said if i had apologized for not liking the food and admitted i had bad taste they would have given me something else for free. As I sat in the restaurant I noticed there were no French people eating the food. Everyone around me was speaking English, I saw nobody finishing their food. This is clearly a family run tourist trap with a massive ego problem that in my opinion has bad food and overpriced food. They get away with this because old town Nice is a giant tourist trap and new people come in every day never to return again. They don't care how you feel about the food, they just want money and they aren't counting on you returning. You can find better restaurants. read more

They have an additional dining room with less tables in the wine cellar which might be quieter. I had to get close to the waiter at times to hear him speak. Median price range for the area with good size portions. I had the duck breast with figs for the entree and panna cotta for dessert. Everything had good flavor, but some minute details would bring it next level. The duck could be rendered a bit more but was cooked to my specified temp. The sauce was fantastic (like a jus). However, they poured the sauce on top so any crispy skin was lost. Entrees come with a side of your choice. The green beans were simple and went well with my dish. This was our big disappointment during our October 2024 vacation in Nice/Cote d'Azur. The restaurant was recommended to us by a cooking school and we felt fortunate to obtain a reservation. We arrived on time and were seated in a far back dining room, up a few stairs, where it was so warm my wife's cheeks got flushed. It was a very pleasant evening but it was easily 80f/27c. My first impression something was amiss was the wine list. The selection was of wines that hold a 80-85 rating with poor to mixed reviews (I do look up reviews when I search a wine list). So I ordered a carafe of the house red which was actually pretty good. That is what I would recommend to any diner eating there. We ordered a salad and it was not very good and the salad greens were not fresh. I had the tuna entree. The tuna itself was excellent. My wife ordered a beef dish which was also very good. A "choice of" menu is included in all the meals. This was the only restaurant we went to in Nice that offered this. Pasta was the main choice but there were also French Fries. According to our cooking school recommendation the french fries were supposed to be fantastic. My wife ordered the ravioli as her side dish. I ordered the linguini. You also get a choice of sauce. Both the ravioli and the linguini were overcooked and nearly mushy. I paid an extra 7 euros for an order of the french fries. They were passable though not salted, just cut potato fries, fried in a fryer. As my wife said, even Five Guys has better fries; so I'm not sure why that particular recommendation from the cooking school. We were too warm to stay for dessert. read more

When I called, they tell me to book on google or in person, but their google page leads to another place called tigermilk (not sure what that is), and they even have the audacity to tell me to be on time after that and then it just hangs up. One of the only disappointing meals we had in France. I forgot which article recommended this place, but we made a reservation the day before as it was fully booked the day of. 1. Octopus salad: I prefer the larger pieces of octopus vs. the smaller ones, also found the marinated sauce was not amazing either 2. Beef tartare carpaccio: was pretty good, the cheese and olives a good compliment 3. Beef stew with gnocchi: very filling because of the ravioli's however I felt there wasnt enough depth to the dish and the pasta itself didn't have much flavor 4. Beef tenderloin: The flavor all came from the topping which consisted of anchovies, garlic and herbs, however the cut of meat wasn't high quality 5. Fries: These were their specialty and not made with potatoes, they were very starchy and heavy but crispy on the outside I felt 90% of the dishes lacked depth and that the highlight of the meal was the wine. Many of the items we were interested in such as the duck were "sold out" by 9pm, which was very limiting. To top it off the service was really not great, the waitress was a bit condescending and cold. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant and pretty surprised how busy and well reviewed it is. read more

We had a great Italian lunch here in Old Town! THE WAIT: None at 1:50pm on a Tuesday in October. THE SERVICE: Great. There were English speaking staff and menus, and the clientele seemed local. Our server didn't make a big deal about returning a bottle of wine we accidentally ordered (we thought we were ordering a glass). They were also nice about us having a baby at the restaurant. There was no changing table (very typical in Nice) and guided me to to change her diaper on top of wine barrel turned on its side (it had edges to protect her from rolling off!) outside the bathrooms. THE COST: 53€ total for lunch for two. Not too bad. I went back to my camera chip in October 2008 to pull out these my photos of the dinner I had with my companions because this local family restaurant is just so good and really worth going out of your way into the Old Town of Nice with the maze like paths that can get you lost, but this restaurant is a great find and I am glad I listened to the tour guide I read. This place is the best with every dish exceptional! A++++ You can do no wrong here. Local hidden spot. I got lost and had trouble finding someone to speak English to find this place. But keep asking and you will be rewarded for your troubles. Totally amazing!! I still wonder how they made this beautiful platter called pan-bagnet stuffed veggies is that not oily at all. Yummy in my tummy for sure! Great family run restaurant atmosphere. They can recommend to you what you like to eat. The patrons told us they loved this place. Everyone is friendly here. Ordered Salad Nicoise, Slow Cooked Beef, Fillet Fish on Risotto (special of that day)... they were so good we finished them all and stuffed ourselves. Let me start with the bread, yes they are free but this time they are GOOD! Crunchy and tasty but not hard on your teeth. Salad blends together perfectly with tuna and anchovies... tips: add olive oil to create this harmony Now the main courses... slow cooked beef was just out of this world... 5 BIG tasty well seasoned chunks of tender meat... can't get better than this The fish was equally impressive. We first noticed this place the night before we went there because of the line out the door! We were in town during Carnival - if you are there during that time too be sure to make a reservation!!!!! The food was good - a nice teaser of what we were in for at the beginning of our southern France trip. I recommended trying something you have never had whole here! My husband had his first fish soup here and it was huuuuuuge (we should have shared)! Be sure to lay off all of the carnival snacks to make room for this meal. Since I was wanting to eat some steak frites, my husband found this place on Yelp. For a Thursday dinner around 8, it was pretty busy, but we managed to squeeze in a corner table which we didn't mind. The cute garçons were friendly and spoke good English. It's a family run business with mom, dad, and two sons all working there. The garçons were the sons. One of them had even traveled to the Bay Area and was familiar with the Marin area. I ordered the loin steak with peppercorn sauce and my husband ordered the loin steak with the anchovies, herbs, and olive oil. Both medium rare. It came with a side so we ordered fries and salad. The food came out pretty fast. The peppercorn sauce was like gravy (pretty thick consistency), but it was delicious. You can taste just enough pepper for a nice kick. The fries were the best that we could have ordered another. Portions were just right for me although it may be a little small for the men as it was about 5 oz. The anchovy one was pretty good too. I didn't get the cozy, family-run feel from this place at all. It is very beautifully decorated, just trendier than I expected. It was easy to make a reservation, because the staff speak English, even though I did my best to muddle through with French. Everything on the menu sounds incredible, and I'm regretting not ordering the Nicoise platter to get a little bit of everything (but it looked like mostly farcis). There's a section where you get sides with your main dish, for a great deal. The famous daube ravioli was generous, perfectly savory, and the meat was fall-apart tender. The swordfish, and the cuttlefish/calamari salad were both fresh, if not exactly my taste. The only drawbacks were that our server was quite huffy when we said we were sharing, and they don't accept debit/credit cards. read more

Our first night in Nice, and found Acchiardo on Yelp. It did not disappoint. We order the gnocchi which were a challenge to finish, the portions were very generous. Not to mention that they were cooked perfectly. We also had the slow cooked beef stew which was so tender a knife was optional. I had the steak with basilic butter and it as well was grilled perfectly and had great flavor. Staff was attentive and super friendly especially since our French is rough. We came here on a recommendation from a friend and were not disappointed. We had a 9:30 reservation and arrived early. Our table wasn't ready yet but part of the owning family, Jean-Francois brought us beers on the street front tables while we waited. We ordered a great red for the table when seated which was very reasonably priced. For the entrees we had the duck breast with pepper sauce and the beef stew with ravioli. Both were incredible. Located in old Nice, this place is always packed for either lunch or dinner so call a head or stop by to reserve a table. Note, this restaurant is closed on Saturday and Sunday. They serve traditional local food at non inflated prices. Everything is fresh and great tasting. For appetizers you can start with some local favorites like fish soup, basil soup, grilled vegetables or stuffed vegetables, all delicious. You can continue with fish or meat but my favorites are the fresh pasta (especially the raviolis) or the local merda de can (potato/Blettes preparation), the basil ones are awesome. Honestly, just average. Downgraded to 2* after a stellar [similar] dinner the next evening at Le Comptoir du Marche PROS: bread was fantastic with nice chew, waiter spoke perfect English if needed, bresoala carpaccio, duck demi glace, beef in the beef stew (some of the most tender I've had), got a seat up front away from the "back room" they supposedly dump the tourists into. CONS: duck breast main fat not rendered enough, sliced way too thinly, green beans were slaughtered and I mean 2/3 completely overcooked. If you're expecting fresh haricot vert, steer clear of these. These were stewed away, probably in a hotel pan and ladled out in too-large portions to ourselves and the other American tourists next to us. Pretty atrocious given the fantastic fresh beans available all over the country. Wait was nice to include both of the pastas with the beef stew though I wasn't blown away by either. Small ravioli dough was too thick and the filling wasn't really anything special (if you've ever had short rib agnolotti or a ravioli with phenomenal meat filling, this ain't it), while the famous green gnocchi weren't really soft enough for my liking though the flavor came through. From my view, not having patronized this spot in the past, it appears to be coasting by on its reputation happy to serve its food to worn tourists, though the place was probably filled with 1/3 French. Didn't love any complete dish enough to return. To top it off, we weren't greeted nicely on entering (even having made a reservation) or on exit, and our server could take or leave that we were there. Little touches make a difference. With the above said, it still offers an okay value but there are too many other noteworthy spots in Nice for us to return to this one. Disappointed. read more
