More 3.5 but rounding up. Reservations strongly recommended. Friendly staff. Inviting space but on the noisy side. In the main dining room the sound becomes amplified. They have an additional dining room with less tables in the wine cellar which might be quieter. I had to get close to the waiter at times to hear him speak. Median price range for the area with good size portions. I had the duck breast with figs for the entree and panna cotta for dessert. Everything had good flavor, but some minute details would bring it next level. The duck could be rendered a bit more but was cooked to my specified temp. The sauce was fantastic (like a jus). However, they poured the sauce on top so any crispy skin was lost. Entrees come with a side of your choice. The green beans were simple and went well with my dish. The panna cotta ratio was off so the base was a bit stiff.

This was our big disappointment during our October 2024 vacation in Nice/Cote d'Azur. The restaurant was recommended to us by a cooking school and we felt fortunate to obtain a reservation. We arrived on time and were seated in a far back dining room, up a few stairs, where it was so warm my wife's cheeks got flushed. It was a very pleasant evening but it was easily 80f/27c. My first impression something was amiss was the wine list. The selection was of wines that hold a 80-85 rating with poor to mixed reviews (I do look up reviews when I search a wine list). So I ordered a carafe of the house red which was actually pretty good. That is what I would recommend to any diner eating there. We ordered a salad and it was not very good and the salad greens were not fresh. I had the tuna entree. The tuna itself was excellent. My wife ordered a beef dish which was also very good. A "choice of" menu is included in all the meals. This was the only restaurant we went to in Nice that offered this. Pasta was the main choice but there were also French Fries. According to our cooking school recommendation the french fries were supposed to be fantastic. My wife ordered the ravioli as her side dish. I ordered the linguini. You also get a choice of sauce. Both the ravioli and the linguini were overcooked and nearly mushy. I paid an extra 7 euros for an order of the french fries. They were passable though not salted, just cut potato fries, fried in a fryer. As my wife said, even Five Guys has better fries; so I'm not sure why that particular recommendation from the cooking school. We were too warm to stay for dessert.

Wonderful service. Wine was excellent. It's a very interesting building owned by same family for decades. All our food was great steak, lamb chops and cream brulée. Highly recommend. Need to reserve.

Absolutely fantastic! Great pasta and steak! My husband had the escalope maison and loved it. Would definitely go back! Even though we showed up without a reservation 15 minutes before closing that staff still accommodated us with a 5 minute wait. Wine selection was très magnifique!

One of the only disappointing meals we had in France. I forgot which article recommended this place, but we made a reservation the day before as it was fully booked the day of. 1. Octopus salad: I prefer the larger pieces of octopus vs. the smaller ones, also found the marinated sauce was not amazing either 2. Beef tartare carpaccio: was pretty good, the cheese and olives a good compliment 3. Beef stew with gnocchi: very filling because of the ravioli's however I felt there wasnt enough depth to the dish and the pasta itself didn't have much flavor 4. Beef tenderloin: The flavor all came from the topping which consisted of anchovies, garlic and herbs, however the cut of meat wasn't high quality 5. Fries: These were their specialty and not made with potatoes, they were very starchy and heavy but crispy on the outside I felt 90% of the dishes lacked depth and that the highlight of the meal was the wine. Many of the items we were interested in such as the duck were "sold out" by 9pm, which was very limiting. To top it off the service was really not great, the waitress was a bit condescending and cold. I wouldn't recommend this restaurant and pretty surprised how busy and well reviewed it is.

We had a great Italian lunch here in Old Town! THE WAIT: None at 1:50pm on a Tuesday in October. THE SERVICE: Great. There were English speaking staff and menus, and the clientele seemed local. Our server didn't make a big deal about returning a bottle of wine we accidentally ordered (we thought we were ordering a glass). They were also nice about us having a baby at the restaurant. There was no changing table (very typical in Nice) and guided me to to change her diaper on top of wine barrel turned on its side (it had edges to protect her from rolling off!) outside the bathrooms. THE COST: 53€ total for lunch for two. Not too bad. THE FOOD: * Petits Farçis Niçoise Maison - 4.5 stars Surprisingly good, very soft & tasty meat filling, stuffed in several different veggies. * Panisse - 2.5 stars Quite dry and flavorless. * Duck breast - 4 stars Nice contrast of fig jam with the duck, but the meat was a little tough. * Steak - 4.5 stars Simple but incredibly soft steak, lovely! * Fries - 2 stars Overcooked and under flavored. I like thick cut fries but the outside was way too hard.

Very good meal! Friendly staff & spoke great English. I would check to make sure they have recommendations but this is a great option if you are looking for traditional Nice dishes.

The appetizer sampler of vegetable like Eggplant, squashes, etc. Such great presentation and taste! Yummy in my tummy!

I went back to my camera chip in October 2008 to pull out these my photos of the dinner I had with my companions because this local family restaurant is just so good and really worth going out of your way into the Old Town of Nice with the maze like paths that can get you lost, but this restaurant is a great find and I am glad I listened to the tour guide I read. This place is the best with every dish exceptional! A++++ You can do no wrong here. Local hidden spot. I got lost and had trouble finding someone to speak English to find this place. But keep asking and you will be rewarded for your troubles. Totally amazing!! I still wonder how they made this beautiful platter called pan-bagnet stuffed veggies is that not oily at all. Yummy in my tummy for sure! Great family run restaurant atmosphere. They can recommend to you what you like to eat. The patrons told us they loved this place. Everyone is friendly here. The steak and cheese sauce I had with my dish was like melting in my mouth like I was in heaven. I still dream of this dish and restaurant from time to time. Maybe one day I can return to Nice, France again!

Oh my God, this place is AWESOME. Went during lunch, fortunately got a table just outside of the restaurant to give us people watching experience by the small street. Ordered Salad Nicoise, Slow Cooked Beef, Fillet Fish on Risotto (special of that day)... they were so good we finished them all and stuffed ourselves. Let me start with the bread, yes they are free but this time they are GOOD! Crunchy and tasty but not hard on your teeth. Salad blends together perfectly with tuna and anchovies... tips: add olive oil to create this harmony Now the main courses... slow cooked beef was just out of this world... 5 BIG tasty well seasoned chunks of tender meat... can't get better than this The fish was equally impressive. Seasoned just right to bring fullness of the texture/taste of the fish. Perfectly balanced by creamy tasty risotto. Had we more space in our stomachs, we'd be ordering dessert. I regret not ordering wine in this place. Now I haven't told you the best part, price... 45€ for two people... what a bargain...

The restaurant has a humble exterior (largely blocked by gelato customers), but once you descend the stairs into the dining area you are in a sheek, romantic, cellar. Intimately small but comfortable. The walls are lined with stone and endless wine bottles. The starters were all quite good. We had the snails, squid, and cheese plait. As a bonus, my waitress recommended an excellent wine to pair with the squid. It was spot on. My group shared the beef and tartafelle (forgive my spelling). The beef was succulent, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. I had no idea what to expect with the second dish but it was delicious and I would certainly order again. The prior night, I had the bakes camembert when eating solo. The dish is exactly as described. It's tasty, but I'd recommend it for a group since eating an entire block of melted cheese solo is challenging. Last but not least, the wait staff were wonderful! We really enjoyed chatting with our 2 waitresses, who went out of their way to make sure we enjoyed ourselves and our election of drinks. As a tourist, you really hope to stumble on a gem like this were the locals charm you and really guide your dining experience. If ever back in Nice, i'll certainly go again!

The filet was sliced and cooked perfect The potatoes were great and also nice salad came with it. Service was ok. Prices Moderate.

This was our favorite meal of our trip to Nice!…read more Warning: Reservations are hard to come by we dropped by and only reservations available were for 9pm two nights later. We took it. The place is super relaxed. 5 maybe 6 tables which made the difficulty of reservations more understandable. Prix fix menu - 4 appetizers to choose from, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. We were there with somewhat of a limited diet, but the options were awesome. We got a cauliflower appetizer and an artichoke one. Both were excellent. We all had the cod for dinner also delicious - served in a bath of traditional fish soup and with potatoes. The dessert was also excellent - we got the goat cheese in olive oil and garlic, the cream cheese with blueberry compote, lemon cheesecake and cinnamon "tiramisu". Every bite was full of flavor and such cool takes on the food. Now the intangibles - we arrived for our 9pm reservation, restaurant closes at 9:30 and we probably didn't walk out until 11:15 and there was still another table of 8 people dining. The host/waiter, Sebastian, was awesome. So friendly and we at no point felt rushed. In fact the opposite. When our daughter was slow in finishing her meal he joked with her instead of hurrying us along. Once we finished our main dish, he casually brought us our dessert and because we didn't order his favorite (we didn't know) he brought us out an extra to enjoy. We felt a little bad so somewhat accelerated the dessert phase so we could square up and leave. Instead he was unhurried, he casually cleared our table and chatted with us for a bit. It took us another 15 minutes before we finally said could we get the bill. He brought it to us another 5-7 minutes later. We had a great experience and one of our best meals in France, if not the best.
