I had an emergency call into Tom's Appliance on a Saturday morning I had to leave a message they called me back by 3:00 that same afternoon and scheduled a visit Monday morning. As informed they called Monday morning stating they were on their way Ray showed up was very courteous and efficient and sadly had to declare our washer dead. He gave us a recommendation for a very good inexpensive washer. And he did give me some insight into what was wrong with our washer and probably if I had called maybe a month or two sooner it would have been able to be repaired. From now on I'm going to pay attention to the signs of my washer and if I do need any kind of appliance repair Tom's is the first place I'm going to call thank you Ray for all the help and information. read more

Clothes dryer began not drying fully (damp clothes) and then dryer was overheating, clothes extremely hot. Could not control the heat. I called at 943AM Friday morning. Said they could get an engineer here before noon. Great! They called back 15 minutes later, Ron would be there in 15 minutes! WOW. He is the owner. Very upfront about price on the phone: $95 visit/inspection plus parts and labor time. He found the heater coil had drooped and grounded on the chassis. Had it repaired in about an hour. Excellent price overall at $232. One year warranty on part. I would recommend this company. read more

I have never been treated like this!! The other day I posted about needing an appliance service company. Tom's appliances came out & charged me $100 just to look and said that it was "clear as day" there was no leak coming from the dishwasher. I called Home Depot who came out (since it was under warranty) and said "yup it's the dishwasher!". They fixed the dishwasher, the leak and replaced the parts at no charge. When I called back Tom's appliances to follow up, (did NoT ask for my money back) he said "oh well I looked and didn't see anything". he had no qualms hanging up on me! I've received great service from Tom's in the past but as of August 2022 they've decided to reduce their service area. I'm 11 miles from their office but it's too far to travel due to the escalation in gas prices. Sadley, they didn't give me the option to compensate them for the incremantal mileage. Excellent personable service! Owner Ron showed up at 1:25 PM and left at 1:38 PM and we even had a couple minutes to chat! He diagnosed the problem with my 24-year-old Kenmore clothes washer immediately, he had the part on the truck and fixed it lightning fast. Tom once talked me through repairing a washer over the phone....like defusing a bomb or something. He was a great guy. Call his son Ron for help with anything appliance related. Here is a cut and paste from their web site. Tom's Appliance Service was started in 1946 by Tom Stralkowski while working part-time as a service technician at Chatlins Department Store in Norristown. His wife Anne answered the phone and scheduled the service calls. In March of 1969 his son Ron graduated from electronics technical school and began working full time along side his father. In 1986, Tom suffered a heart attack on the job forcing him to retire. At that time, the business was turned over to his son Ron. Ron's wife Cookie took over the handling of the phone calls and scheduling to continue the personal family touch. Ron was joined by his son Ron Jr. in 1992, and as the business grew, Ron's other son Michael joined the family business in 1995. Tom's was my go-to repair guy for decades, but he's forgotten what the customer is always right means so I'll never use him again. Not only refused to follow PA state mask mandates for businesses by putting on a mask before entering my house, but he couldn't resist a snarky comment at me about how I shouldn't "believe in that stuff." That told me he hadn't bothered to clean his equipment or probably even wash his hands or use sanitizer. He doesn't care about his customers, period. I tried complaining to the office--they told me they weren't breaking the law, which they are. So, never ever again. read more

Wow what a great experience. Same day service. Got right into the problem, worked very fast and efficiently. He knew exactly what he was doing. Probably overcharged me on the parts but whatever the overall price was less than others that I got quoted from people who wanted to come out and do a half-day diagnostic just to tell me that they didn't have the part on the truck. Tom's Appliance, who we've used before, came to fix our stove this morning. The man came to the door without a mask, and when I asked about it he grumbled, so I offered him one of ours, to which he replied, "I don't believe in that shit". I told him he would need to leave since I have a newborn. I also mentioned the CDC and governor's guidelines. He reluctantly put it on, but I can only assume he removed it once I left the kitchen. He wore it, poorly, when we spoke, then asked me to open the door since he "tries not to touch door knobs". I wish I would've still made him leave instead of supporting a company that clearly doesn't comply with PA and CDC health guidelines. I will not be using this company again. read more

Very impressed! My 15 year old washer broke down and I had a feeling it may not be cost efficient or even able to be repaired. Tom arrived well within his 2 hour window and within less than a half hour had tested all possible culprits and knew, unfortunately, it was a part that GE no longer produced that I needed. He was great about recommending a more reliable new machine that was also cost efficient as well as a great store I used to buy it that I was really pleased with. I hope my new washer and dryer don't break but if they do I'll absolutely call Tom again! Another bonus--Tom was available within 2 hours of my calling and asking for service, I actually reached out to GE first and they couldn't have a repair tech out to my home for over a week--a week without a working washer would've been a total no go! read more

Called to schedule a repair appointment for a Whirlpool Duet dryer that was making an unusual noise. The woman who answered the phone took down my information and booked the appointment. About 15 minutes later, I received a voicemail from the same woman who took my information, letting me know that her husband said this was a "major repair" and they would not be able to handle the request. Bear in mind, the appraisal and assessment of the repair was rendered sight unseen. This begs the question: If an appliance repair company cannot handle major repairs, then how legitimate is their operation, and why be in business in the first place? I do not recommend. read more

I'm a new homeowner and of course, as all things go the way of Murphy's Law (or Mercury being in retrograde this week), my washing machine died on me Sunday evening after successfully completing 2 loads prior. Panicked, I started to do a google search for my machine and repairmen. It was thanks to Nextdoor that I found out about Tom's Appliance Service. First thing Monday, I gave a call and the woman answering was very pleasant and asked if someone could come by that day or Tuesday. We made arrangements for Tuesday. Ron was prompt, courteous, diagnosed the problem in 5 minutes -- to his truck for the part, switched out, made sure everything worked properly and I was to work in about 45mins. The price was fair and service excellent. I can't say enough about the service I received and was even granted a 1-year warranty on the part and service.
