We had Terry remodel our 1940s bathroom - electrical, plumbing, tile, tub, painting, toilet, sink,…read morelighting, cabinet, exhaust fan, grab bars, counter, plaster repair - the works! It's now been about 4 months since he finished the work and each day I look at our new bathroom and think "wow!' He did a great job! He was patient and always responsive to any questions or issues, and cleaned up each day. Great workmanship too. He started out by measuring and answering any questions we had, offering ideas here and there but letting us make our own decisions. Unlike some other contractors, he did not give fancy 3D architectural renderings, nor did he accompany us to each supplier to pick out products. Here's what his process was, which was perfect for us. We received a proposal contract which listed each item or task, along with a cost allowance for each item. If we chose something more expensive than its allowance, the final price would reflect the increase. If what we chose cost less than the allowance, the final cost would go down by that much. So we had a bottom line price from the start and would have the final decision on expenses. He then also gave us a list of his suggested suppliers from which to pick out all of the products. We worked with those suppliers to make selections at their respective showrooms (they work with TLC regularly), and they forwarded our selections to Terry. A few selections we made were from suppliers not on his list, which was fine, but the places he suggested were where most of the items came from. When all selections were made, he provided us with a revised proposal contract reflecting our selections and revised costs. Then he - not us - did the ordering from each vendor to insure that all of the parts and pieces fit together and would work, plus that way his contractor discount was applied. His final contract to us was transparent and showed all prices. No additional markups, no change order fees, no nonsense. If someone wants computer-generated architectural renderings, having him present at each supplier meeting, one central showroom where every needed product and samples are all in one place, then this type of contractor isn't likely for you. If however, you want a remodeling contractor that not only provides the quote but also does the actual work himself, with reliable suppliers that work with him, with a fair price and a minimal amount of stress (if that's possible lol), then TLC's a good choice. Would we recommend TLC Contracting? If you haven't it already guessed: the answer is absolutely!

Working with Marv Berg and his truly talented team has sincerely been a welcome pleasure. The quality of construction and attention to every detail is really second to none. After touring so many Lake Country properties, researching other developments and doing all our homework, we just kept coming back to the Overstone project. Items usually considered an upgrade or additional expense by other builders are standard at Overstone. Some of the standard inclusions are fully tiled master shower, tiled backsplashes, custom painting throughout, ceiling high kitchen cabinetry, transom windows (tons of them!), really generous allowances for flooring, lighting and even appliances! The garage is fully drywalled and painted, and you have access to the services of a professional decorator to help in making your interior finish and fixture choices - all included! The Clubhouse is over 6,000 square feet of top-of-the line amenities including a huge fitness center, full meeting and kitchen facilities, multiple big screen TV's, indoor shuffleboard, video games and an amazing outdoor entertainment facility. The outdoors involves a beautiful swimming pool and relaxation area, fully covered heated patio seating with multiple gas fireplaces, full complement kitchen area with elite cooking and grilling equipment, all under the view of a huge TV for catching an afternoon or evening game. It really is hard to compare Berg Development to any other condo developers out there. You just have to come out and see for yourself because the community is unbelievable! I am so very happy and proud to call Overstone my forever home. Thanks to Marv, Chad, Erin and the entire team! You've made me a very happy camper!

From the…read morevery first conversation, he demonstrated professionalism, deep expertise, and a genuine commitment to bringing our space back to life. Every step of the process was handled with care. He provided clear communication, thoughtful recommendations, and a level of craftsmanship that's increasingly rare. He didn't just "fix" things; he restored them with precision and pride, making the final result even better than the original. The team was punctual, respectful of our home, and incredibly organized. They kept the project on schedule, maintained a clean work environment, and made sure we understood what was happening at each stage. We wouldn't hesitate to hire them again or recommend them to anyone looking for top‑tier restoration work. If you want quality, integrity, and beautiful results, this is the contractor you want.

The top part of the deck, made from teak, is still fine, but all the rails (aside from the main supports) and bottom of the stairs were pine, so many of those parts needed replacement due to wood rot. Additionally, the slats that framed around the porch weren't attached properly, so Marcus took them all off and reattached them correctly and securely. He also removed an electrical outlet that wasn't working and capped off the wiring. The baseboards were also replaced with PVC. It was a full-day project, and these guys worked hard. I can't say enough for their professionalism--from the quality work they did (plus explaining everything to me), and beginning and ending the day with cordial words. Such politeness is not a give in these days. The day began with a friendly greeting and ended in the evening with, "Have a nice night," not to mention polite interactions throughout the day. They also cleaned up perfectly, removing all the old wood. Even though they went beyond what we discussed, and Marcus did the extra work (wooden slats that weren't attached properly and a piece of wood behind the stairs that was replaced with PVC which we hadn't talked about initially) Marcus stuck to his original estimate. ***I would recommend these guys without reservation.*** I will also add that their pricing was very fair with an estimate given ahead of time. It was an stress-free day. Thanks Marcus and Devon.

We wanted a bedroom, a bathroom (which we added rough-in for when we built the house), and a living area. He started by asking us what was important to us for flooring, ceiling, etc. and what our non-negotiable items were, which he would later use to try to gaslight us into thinking the price was worth it based on what our wants were. After the salesman did the measurements, it came out to roughly 600 square feet that we would be finishing. We had talked to friends and family members who had finished their basement (not with Matrix) so thought we had a pretty realistic expectation as to the price. We were quoted $140,000 for 600 square feet. That price didn't even include the shower, vanity or toilet (he said he was taking off his Matrix hat and putting on his "friend" hat and then told us we could get a better deal if we bought those things ourselves and they would install them). When I told the salesman I would not pay that much, he told us that the bedroom and the dry bar (about 10 feet of cabinets with a countertop) were what was driving the price up. I asked what the price would be without the bedroom and he said he wasn't going to do that because we originally said that was something we needed to have. Eventually after going back and forth a bit, he recalculated the quote to not include a bedroom and acted so proud of himself when that brought the quote down to $110,000 (again, for basically a wide open, 600 foot space with a bathroom, minus the bathroom fixtures). I told him that was still too much. Then he told us there were "some levers he could pull" which included them buying down the interest rate they offer for their financing from 7.99 to 6.99 and then asked if we would be open to testimonials like a review (probably why there are so many positive reviews on here - take them with a grain of salt) or an open house. We said yes, so he called his manager (who answered right away at 8pm on a Tuesday night) and had a conversation with him on speaker phone. This was the most obviously staged/rehearsed/routine conversation I have ever experienced, I could not help but laugh the entire time it was happening. They talked about how much money they could give us off for the open house, the manager claimed to have additional vouchers he was going to throw in to give a bigger discount (but told the salesman not to tell anyone, he doesn't have a ton of them laying around) and said they would give us 1% back for everyone who signed on following our open house. This brought the quote to $94,000, but we would have to sign and put $3,000 down right then and there. Following this, he asked if we were in the right ballpark now. When I said no again, he asked "is it me", to which I told him that I was turned off by the fact that he made a huge show of getting us all these discounts rather than just being upfront. He went into a long explanation that frankly did not make sense. When we started to question things and push back, he became increasingly condescending and rude, even making a comment about how the best decision for us is to wait because we don't know what we want right now. We do know what we want: a FAIR price to get our basement finished. He was in our house for 2.5 hours which I understand is part of their sales tactics as well. Since this experience, my husband has been in contact with some other companies who are more in line with our originally cost expectations. They were also not surprised to hear of our experience with Matrix. There's honestly so much more I could share, but I'll leave it at this. Unless you want to be subjected to 2+ hours of a rude, condescending, high pressure sales pitch and end up paying more than necessary (DOUBLE what other places have quoted us), I would not recommend contacting Matrix.
