So I'm not certain why this facility is not prepared to address the simplest of questions. It's almost as though if you ask a question they go on the defensive and have an attitude. That in and of itself is enough to think they are defending poor behavior and a lack of professionalism. This was my first and last time dealing with them. I brought my dog in yesterday because she was in need of a dental cleaning. They indicated they do x-rays prior to pulling teeth, which is typically standard. Yesterday I was under the impression that if they did X-rays they would show those to me tomorrow. They were going to go ahead and do the expression and the nails then because they took lab work and the assistant said she had a problem getting the lab work which she didn't do in front of me, so God only knows. She said they would go ahead and do it when my pup was under.. Prior to that I spoke with her about her nails and doing an expression, and I said her nails, her Quicks look really long and she got a defensive again. The question I asked today of the intake assistant is, can I see those x-rays and that created this attitude of a response that these are hardwired into the computer and there's no way for me to see those. My response to that is wouldn't that just be standard procedure? When I go to the dentist, they show me what they're going to do to me and I expect the same for my pet. She copped an attitude, so I let it go at that time because I have already planned this. I. I should've probably left at that point because my dog needs care and they were gonna charge me $255 for two minutes of a vet that came in without a smile look like she hated being there and told me that in one minute that she looked at my dog OK well will do this tomorrow or will do this. Go out in the front and see when it can be done. It was $76 for one minute of her time. She looks so unhappy that she was there that I couldn't focus on anything else other than most of them were like that at that place. I scheduled the dental cleaning and they have to put them under. I just think that if somebody has that kind of outwardly attitude at me what they would do to my dog. I scheduled and they said to be there at 7:30. I was there at 7:15. Somebody showed up at 7:30 exactly to open the door. I sat around at 7:32 for about a half hour they took my pet in and the lady took her into the exam room and that's where we had the conversation about having The x-rays to look at the x-rays and she became defensive of course and said well we wouldn't just pull teeth to pull teeth that wasn't my question nor was that my concern. I wanted to see how her teeth looked like. They called at 1:45 and said my pub would be ready at four or 430 this afternoon so that's an entire day that they waited to have her do her dental cleaning probably waited for her to be last and When they called me which was at about 145 to tell me that she'd be ready at 4:30 that I asked were there teeth pulled and she indicated oh yeah she lost alot of teeth so I asked the question how many well, that started another another defensive conversation she didn't know offhand and I said well OK so she said well, I'll have that information when you come in. So needless to say I'm not going back there. I have another Chihuahua that I won't take back there, the biggest thing we can do as. consumers is stop consuming, and I don't have to give my money at $1200-$1500 for a dental cleaning and the removal of teeth to anyone in business who actually treats me with hostility. I could only imagine how they treat animals who can't stick up for themselves. read more

Had a great visit to get my pup's shots. He is very timid/afraid of new people and still being socialized; however, they were extremely gentle with him and helped him feel comfortable before giving him any shots. I really appreciated how well they made the experience for him and how kind everyone is in the front office. They referred me to a qualified behaviorist for my pup and I really appreciated the advice on training and also a good diet for his picky eating habits. I just arrived in the Daytona Beach area. I came from a place where fleas, ticks and heartworm were not an area of major concern. After some other pet owners told me that I had to get her on some oral medication like trifexis once monthly to avoid these parasites, I took my previous dog to tomoka pines. Yes the staff were very patient and spent about of time with us. Gave me an rx for trifexis. It was only after I gave her the 1st dose that I realized that I just poisoned my dog. I was never warned of the possibility that this drug could kill. This review is not easy to write. Up until my recent encounter with Tomoka Pines Veterinary office, I have had a great experience. Back in 2011-15, I used to be my senior dog to board a few nights at a time, and I never had a problem. I felt welcomed, as did my dog, and they made it feel as if boarding with them was the most un-stressful event of my trip. I knew I was leaving my dog in good hands. However, this past encounter with them was the complete antithesis of that. On Dec. 30th, 2020, my family had to leave town for a funeral. We have a puppy who is 8-months old, and have had not yet had to leave her. Due to corona, she had not been exposed to a lot of other dogs or people. And the very few people she has been exposed do, could not watch her for the time that we would be out of town, due to NYE. So we made the only foreseeable choice available to us, Tomoka Pines Veterinary. We had loved it with our previous dog, what could go wrong? On Dec. 29th, prior to boarding her, we were told she would have to come in to meet the Doctor, and pay a fee of $50 (or so) to be "checked out," and by that, it involved the doctor listening to her heart and saying she was healthy. However, my dog being a puppy and having been asked to wait outside in the parking lot (due to covid) to be called in, developed some anxiety, of which she already suffers from. Apparently one of the Vet's technicians had felt that the puppy may not have been a candidate to be boarded by their faculty, due to her low growls, shivering, and evidently being scared of the facility, but this information was never relayed to me. Come Dec. 30th, the day we have to leave town, I drop off my puppy at the facility, unable to walk her into the facility (due to covid), and walk away. I was saddened at the state of which I had to leave her, as she was shivering and crying, evident that she was freighted and did not know what was happening, but I also felt OK about it, as they facility had been there for me and my pet beforehand and would take good care of my puppy. That was not the case, not an hour after I had dropped her off, while on my way to the airport, Sue, the manager, calls me to inform me that my puppy needed to be picked up. I explained to her that picking her up was not an option, as I was leaving town, I was asked to have someone else come pick her up, of which I explained was not an option either, due to NYE and everyone being away. Sue explained to me that my puppy was being aggressive, growling, shivering, everything that essentially showed her being frightened. Again, she's not even a year old and in a totally new environment. I understood Sue's stance though, as she did not want any of her staff members to be put in harms way, but from my current stand point, having to suddenly go out of town for a funeral (of which I told Sue),and be given additional stress that a Veterinary's office could not handle a scared puppy, shook me. Sue made me feel incredibly guilty for having no other option but to leave my puppy at her facility and told me that they would need to sedate her as needed. She had called me a few times that day, to inform me of the urgency in the matter, to get someone to pick her up, and insinuating that I was an inadequate dog owner, yet she runs a vet's office, which should be equipped to handle situations like these. It left me unnerved and uncomfortable to know that my puppy was having a traumatic event take place and I could do nothing. Eventually, my family and I cut our trip short to pick her up. Upon picking her up, and looking at my bill, I was surprised to see that they had originally quoted me $22/night but charged me $25/night. I learned that they had medicated her, with Gabapentin, which I did not approve off. When I approved to medicate her, to help her relax, I was originally told she'd be taking something similar to Lorazpam, but Gabapentin was never discussed. I did speak to the tech who watched my puppy for the entirety of the weekend, who was sweet and kind and cared for my puppy. That was the only positive of the entire experience, one kind and warm hearted Vet Tech. By the time I got home, my puppy had thrown up, not drunken any water nor food, stayed in her corner or hid under furniture. I figured she'd need to adjust back to being home, but the morning after, I found her crying and had found diarrhea puddles ALL OVER the house. She slept most of the day, was shivering and crying all throughout the day, and had 2 more diarrhea blow outs. When sitting with her and trying to comfort her, I found under her front legs 2 reddened and hairless patches, where the harness had laid. It is my assumption that the harness was on her at all times and there was excessive pulling. It was not until day 3 that she was back to herself. It has taken me this long to write this review and we've been very upset about the whole ordeal and have since needed to nurse her back to health. read more

We have been to several veterinary hospitals in the area and Tomoka Pines is by far the best! They are knowledgeable, quick to respond and they follow up every time. I would HIGHLY recommend them. My dog has severe arthritic issues and Dr. Long put him on a prescription food and recommended supplements. None of the other vets even mentioned these options. Horrible staff. Long story short, I brought my dog here in an emergency (i'm grateful they were able to get me in on such short notice - the only good experience about this visit) because there was a possibility he swallowed some nails that a cat knocked on the floor and I needed an x-ray on him asap. When I got there, the nurses acted as if my dog was an inconvenience for them to deal with due to him being a very active and excited 1-year-old lab. One nurse even made a remark saying "I cant wait until we can sedate you!" because he was so excited to be meeting new people (she was dirty blonde, on the younger side). Anyways, it ends up that he did swallow 2 nails, and they gave me two options: 1) to "sedate" him to try and slow bowel movements at home and bring him back in in the morning to get an endoscopy and/or get them surgically removed because they didn't have a doctor to do it that same day, OR 2) take him to an ER vet, which they reminded me multiple times would be costly. Remind you, both options have been written in the report. In the moment, I decided on the 1st choice since I am a full-time student and have limited finances. Ultimately, I changed my mind when I got home and found an ER vet to take him to because the 1st option just didn't seem the safest for my boy. My dad called Tomoka Pines that same night and explained the situation - that we will probably be going to an ER vet asap. The next morning (today), I received a call at 8:39am from a lady who was extremely rude because they were expecting me, even though my dad explained the situation to them the day prior. Lack of communication on their end. At this point, she only cared about getting the money I owed them. Sadly I did not catch her name since I was in such disbelief by the way she was talking to me and the lack of sympathy she had for someone going through this. She stated, "Dr. B should NOT have let you leave here without paying anything yesterday" and continued on to asking me why I am unable to pay my dues today and the rest of this week... as I am over an hour away at an ER specialist vet all of today and have classes and exams during the duration of their business hours Wednesday and Thursday. I asked if I could come in on Friday to pay since my dog is still in the ER currently and I have a lot on my plate, and she scoffed and said it should be done today. She then proceeded to ask if I or someone else can call and pay the bill over the phone now. I am so shocked at the way that this staff member spoke to me over the phone that it got to the point where I couldn't even speak to her anymore. She was extremely unprofessional and insensitive to someone still actively going through a scary situation. Dr B. was nice, but I will never be going back to this vet and will never recommend them to anyone ever again because of their staff and nurses. read more

I have been going to Tomoka Pines Veterinary Hospital for over fifteen years and give them (Doctors and Staff) five stars. Dr Kelly performed surgery on my Belgain Malinois with perfection, correcting a urinary born defect. Since Belgain Malinois are generally active dogs my dog had an accident where she damaged one of her teeth requiring immediate removal. Dr Avis performed the surgery and again my dog is 100% and good as new. In addition to the surgical expertise at Tomoka Pines, Dr Kelly and staff are extremely patient as my Belgain is a handful during her routine examinations. read more

I had medical emergency making me 15 min late for appt. I was informed they set 20 min aside for each appointment, so basically I had 5 min remaining. My puppy had been seen two weeks before for well visit and shot, this was just a shot visit. This would easily have taken less than 5 min. To get the item, fill the syringe, put a string of cheese whiz to distract her and give her a shot! I would bet it is more likely they had already given my puppy's spot away and instead of offering to work her in- they rather I drive the 20 min again to get there! The person I spoke to was in my opinion, very rude. She had her agenda and did not even allow for an explanation...she just wanted me to reschedule So she could get on with her day! I am not brushing the entire staff with this, but one bad apple... I am so impressed with the vet visit we just had. Dr. Kelly Long was thorough, patient, caring and concerned. He took the time to explain everything in detail as he was diagnosing the problem with my dog. I am not even an existing client there. We came in for an emergency visit when my dog was having unusual symptoms of either GI distress or a potential poisoning. We just moved into the New Smyrna Beach area 2 weeks ago, so we don't have a regular vet. We called 4-5 vet offices in NSB and not one of them would see my dog-this was during normal business hours. I was shocked. Tomoka Pines said to come right over. They took extensive notes, saw us right away, and spent a lot of time diagnosing the problem. Honestly, I couldn't believe how much time they spent with us. Everyone there was friendly and pleasant to work with. Even my dog was fairly relaxed considering the circumstances. I am currently vacationing in Ormond Beach. I brought my dog Gertie with me. She started itching and scratching. She was just miserable!!! I did not bring her allergy medication with me, so I called around to find a vet that could see her. I called 4 vet clinics before Tomoka Pines and none could see us. The receptionist at Tomoka Pines told me to bring her right in. Dr. Avis, his office staff, and the vet tech were amazing. Gertie is apparently a victim of sand gnats!!! I am so thankful that I went to Doctor Long, Tomoka Pines Vetinary hospital for my dog Blackie. I live in Edgewater, Florida, and after going to three animal care vet's offices, and spending over $700.00 in tests, shampoos, antibiotics, his skin condition just kept getting worse. Well, it is a distance to go to Ormond Beach, but I should of gone to him in the first place. With careful diagnosis and the lab work done properly, he prescribed medication for Blackier's condition. The lab work done was done prior with another vet, and it was totally incorrect, and Blackie was put on so many medications over a years time, and costing unnecessary money, frustration to me, and introducing medication which was not needed. Dr.Long, also treated another dog of mine who had gotten hit by a car after she dug out of a friends yard. I cannot tell you that when I went to a Vet. in Palm Coast, they said it would cost $3,500.00 to repair Puppers tibia. Well I had to leave as I do live on Social Security, and was in such despair, however coming back home and riding down route Nova Road, saw this sign, Vetinary Hospital and asked my friend the driver to pull in. Crying and so upset with the dog, Pupper in my arms, Dr. Long was there, checked out my dog, and charged me a fee that I immediately accepted, due to my income. Dr. Long is a hero, and great man and has the greatest veterinary hospital and staff in this county. The tibia was titanium, and funny I have a titanium whole hip replacement and femur . I am still a Licensed Practical Nurse and cannot of gotten over perhaps putting her down, and was spared the excessive cost from the office of another Vet, as mentioned, and Pupper even ran faster after recovery then before her injury. I am prompted to write as I was at wits end with my dogs skin problem, and it is my way of telling all who may read about the knowledge , kindness, and performance of Dr. Long and his staff. We moved to Ormond about a year ago from California, shortly after adopting our pit mix from a rescue. When we got her, she was covered in a rash, pustules, had hair loss and dandruff. When we brought her to the vet in CA, they could not explain it, and suggested it was some sort of mite. Our option was to wash her with a semi-toxic shampoo or give her medicine. We weren't convinced, and after trying many different remedies, her rash persisted and never got better. When we came to Ormond I figured it was worth a try to see another vet and get a second opinion. First of all, the entire staff at this office is AMAZING. My pup Margot was greeted with love, hugs, pets, they were kneeling down on the floor to play with her, rambunctious as she is. When the vet (cant remember his name!) came in, he allowed her to lick, play and bounce around, even getting down and playing with her before starting the examination. He checked her head to toe, and after observing the skin around her nails, told us he thought it was an allergy. More specifically, a food allergy. He gave me some food recommendations and told me to try that and see if it helped. I had a total "duh!" moment and realized that it made so much sense. After switching her to Blue Buffalo food, her rash (hives) are completely gone. We would have never thought of an allergy, and he knew it right away! I'm so glad my pup doesn't have to suffer anymore, and it's all thanks to the vets at Tomoka Pines. I would definitely recommend them to anyone! read more

Drs. Long and Avis and the entire staff are the most caring staff we have had in over 30 years. We have gone there with no less than 4 cats in the family for many, many years (decades really). As a matter of fact, some of their staff have been there many years as well. Our furry family members have lived long, full and healthy lives thanks to their care. A few days ago our portable kennel broke as we were leaving, literally at their doors threshold (don't buy Pet Mate carriers by the way!!!). One of our cats took off frantically. Almost the entire staff emptied the building trying to find her. This went on over an hour into deep woods and thickets. Finally, with as much luck as skill, Dr. Long was able to spot her and get her (and he has plenty of scratches and scrapes to prove it). This could have ended very badly, and the odds were against us. We thought we would never see her again and she would die in the woods alone and starved. But Dr. Long and the staff were persistent and determined. He saved our beloved cat. And this is not the first time over the years. He and the Tomoka Pines staff have extended the lives of our cats through spot on diagnostic work, extensive knowledge, good instincts, and choosing the right course of treatment. Even cats with severe problems (e.g. kidney disease) lived on for years beyond what would have been expected. And unlike some clinics, the fees are not high, in fact, they are quite reasonable.
