I am DISGUSTED, APPALLED, INSULTED, assuring EVERYONE (pet owners), in the Daytona Beach/Port Orange areas how I was treated this evening by "Don", at All Creatures Crematory in Port Orange, on Poinsettia Drive. I called earlier, spoke with Don, making sure Cream Puff's ashes were ready to be picked up. I honestly had uncomfortable vibes with this man when leaving her in their hands...no specifics in writing, just notes on Cream Puff, on what I would get. In past years, I brought a client's dog to them. Curtis, owner, was very polite, patient, went over details of what all was in the price.
Don, whoever he is/his position there, did NOT do this. His wife was there, but admitted she was NO help...
So, I arrived at 5:15 pm. Mind you, their gate is LOCKED AT ALL TIMES. MUST HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. I was waiting, getting ready to call when Don came down the driveway, carrying a tray...?! I thought, "No, I'm not going to get treated this way, No way, a dropoff?" I get out of my SUV. He asks, "Can I help you?" I'm looking at the tray, I asked, "Are you kidding me?" He asked, "What's the problem?" Is this how I'm getting serviced? A dropoff at the gate? He asked who I was. I told him I was here to pick up my rabbit, Cream Puff. The atmosphere was NOT getting any better. I told him this was/is NOT the proper procedure I knew about years ago, this being VERY UNCARING, UNPROFESSIONAL. I wanted to talk with Curtis (who I knew was the owner). Don became defensive, stated he's not here. I asked if he lives here. AGAIN, Don became VERY DEFENSIVE, ACTUALLY TOLD ME TO GET OFF HIS PROPERTY...What?! HIS property? I remembered his and his wife's conversation about how they'd been living there about 3 years now. The whole situation was/is VERY SHADY, strange.
I told him I wanted Cream Puff's ashes, MY rabbit's ashes. He was NOT going to give me Cream Puff's ashes!! I had to DEMAND Cream Puff's ashes at least 3-4 times, looking very sternly at him, was NOT going to be intimidated, threatened, him trying to bully me "off HIS property". I was parked OUTSIDE A LOCKED GATE.
Ok, I'll stop and say, Don stated his wife came down sick, questionable virus, not wanting anyone to come into the gate...not be able to just drive into the gate, up to the office to discuss anything? IF he would have told me this on the phone, the situation might have been handled differently. I already had a sense he was NOT a nice friendly man when I left Cream Puff.
He finally handed me the sheet, with Cream Puff's notes on it, having me sign for her. I told him I will be pursuing this, expect to talk with Curtis Craig, the owner. He said you go right ahead. Although I have seen ONLY ONE phone number listed for the whole place...their Kennels/boarding/cremation....so I have NO idea where Curtis is. BUT, I was NOT going to simply let this go. I got home, looked at what I was handed....this CHEAP LITTLE COFFIN BOX?!, a PLASTIC BAG with some of Cream Puff's hair, a Florida State "Certificate", showing she was cremated under "law"...what I received, at the gate, for $175.00!
