I used to love coming here for a spray tan when I had an event or was going to a warm place. But now I pay for the tan and come away with no color. I even did clear MAX the last few times, nothing. I thought it was my imagination so I put a sticker on my thigh this time: absolutely no difference. I called to find out why and they said they didn't know "maybe it's low". I honestly don't understand the high star ratings. My fiancé and I went here today for a quick tan and were told that we can only tan half of the time because we were first time customers? So, if max time in a bed was 12 minutes, we could only tan for 6 minutes. That makes no sense as we're already tan and I've never heard of something like that before. But, apparently it's there policy, per the employee. Secondly, there pricing is way to high. There are far better places to go tanning at significantly lower prices, with much better beds. Great location as I used to come to the Hamden one years ago and now live closer to this one. Clean facility and friendly staff. Have gone a few times lately and it never seems busy, even during a Tan Free Weekend (unlike the Hamden one where there are people usually standing in a line practically out of the door, most likely due to nearby colleges). read more

Terrible for spray tans. Lots of Quinnipiac girls go for UV but avoid spray tanning at all costs. It didn't even work and i was certainly not tan for my graduation :( read more

The tommy bahama tanning hues are the best I've ever had. I am very fair and every other tanning salon's light color leaves me looking orange. My only suggestion, is the towel on the rug in front of salon spray tan booth should be changed often. Otherwise, the staff is very informative and nice read more

I've had great luck at this place. Never a waiting time, bulbs are replaced every few months or so, and the front desk is friendly. The place is pretty clean but they could dust the beds and vacuum the corners of the rooms a little more. It's $56/mo for level 2 (taxes included). I wish they would do more loyal customer incentives, like a free upgrade for current customers once a month. Highly recommend this place. You get a natural looking tan with level 2 or higher. I personally never look good at level 1 tans (too orangey for me and no face tanners). read more

Sign outside the building advertises "Spray tan $$24.99 for single - $49.99 unlimited for one month. However there are no such prices when you go in. The state they have had a price increase. I pass this location twice a day and the sign has been there for a month. By the way, it is a free standing sign and can be easily removed. Shame on you Tommys Tanning. read more

Only go here for a spray tan if you want to empty your wallet and become an extra in Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. Not only does their so called "perfecter" do ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, but after time spent in their automated booth, skin comes out blotchy and uneven. Although the staff claim to have full understanding and expertise, when asked questions they hardly know the answers which led to my tan rubbing off where I wore clothes afterwards. Thank god I decided to buy a single pass (FOR $30!) rather than one of their highly advertised saving plans, which I guess they have to advertise because I doubt people actually would go back otherwise. Also, after scouring their website to discover whether or not underage teenagers were allowed to tan, I discovered nothing of the sort, however, once I arrived I was quickly turned away even though I explained how I attended boarding school and my mother was over 2 hours away. The staff made me wait there for over 10 minutes in order to call manager after manager, which just made it evident how ignorant the staff is over what can only be assumed to be standard operating procedures. Starting to head downhill...bulbs are getting hot and less tanning exposure...desk help is horrible to say the least, the girls obviously don't want to be there and they never greet you when u come in...it's always two words....name...how long...and back to their phones and movies on their tablets.....sorry to bother! read more

Overall, I think they do a pretty good job. There is never a wait and they are open late on weekdays. I worked at a tanning salon so I can tell if a bed is clean or not... In the past I have never had an issue, but recently I did notice that the bed seemed to have lotion on it still from the last person... yuck. However, it did seem to be a 'one-off' so I am not going to stop going. I would just say for any tanning salon to always visually check the bed (before you get undressed) and make sure it is clean - if not you should go back up to the desk and let the person know. Personally, I prefer the booth or "stand-up" because not only is it more sanitary IMHO, but you also get a better tan because you get 360 degrees, no pressure point spots, and it takes less time. The issue I have with the booth in Guilford is that if the booth has an adjustable fan I cannot find the switch, and it doesn't seem to be turned on hardly at all. It may very well be broken and no one has noticed because it is sweltering hot in there and you can hardly feel the air circulating. (In a properly working booth you should feel a bit like you are in a wind tunnel.) Last week they were running a promotion on the Versa Spa sunless spray tan, so I tried it on a Wednesday night before I had to attend a Saturday wedding. Now, the girl at the desk didn't tell me what to do, but to be fair I also didn't ask. I watched the video online before going, and have done the Mystic plenty so I wasn't too concerned. I do suggest watching the video at home and practicing the positions. The Versa Spa was easy and vastly superior to the Mystic - almost no smell, option not to get the instant bronzer (which I hate), and it even has a heater that keeps you warm! I put a light coat of barrier cream on my entire hands and feet - not just cuticles - so no orange hands or feet. The next day I got comments galore from my coworkers, and on Saturday it was still looking great and totally natural - not at all orange - for the wedding! I got the one with the moisturizer - I don't know if this actually did anything or not. If it hadn't been for the promotion I probably wouldn't have paid extra for it, but it didn't cause me to break out so at least it didn't hurt. Will definitely go back for the Versa Spa. read more

I have only been to the Guilford location. Very happy with the whole facility and operation. I like the beds and the price is very right.
