I have to preface my review with a disclosure: I've been dyeing and bleaching my hair since I was…read more13 years old. I've gone through stages where I've had pink and black hair, auburn hair, white blonde, etc. I've had my hair dark brown for the past two years now and decided I wanted to go back to my natural hair color (dirty blonde). I was a little hesitant for the change since I once went back to my natural color from red hair within one session and my hair was completely fried and took two months to finally feel manageable. Crystal took care of me when I went in back in December and I told her what I was wanting to do and she told me immediately that one session was not going to cut it since my hair would be damaged. I expected as much and was really grateful that she was up front about that instead of trying to do it all in one session. She was really nice to me and made me feel comfortable despite being hungover and barely able to function. I had a wedding to attend the day of getting my hair done and everyone complimented it. So while my hair wasn't entirely blonde, it was still beautiful and lightened enough for people to notice. I can't wait to make my next appointment to continue working on this mop of hair that I've got.

I made an appointment online and arrived 5 minutes prior to my appointment time. The stylist who I…read morehad an appointment with told me she was running 15-20 minutes behind and told me to go "grab a coffee or something." I arrived back to the salon after 15 minutes and waited. A half an hour after my appointment time my stylist was still working on the client she had in the chair. I asked her to cancel my appointment and I left. Not a good experience for a first time client. I won't be back.

I switched to this salon when my old stylist disappeared and I loved it. I recently had one of my…read morenew stylist's coworkers fill in and things didn't go as I imagined. I hesitated to complain because I'm not a well established client and I feel uncomfortable complaining. When I worked up the courage to go in, the owner was really kind and helped me himself. He didn't make me feel crazy or like a problem and that meant the world to me, even more than having my hair fixed my way. So thank you Salon Mink! I appreciate all of you and what you stand for!

My curls continue to be happy and healthy because of his recommendations and care. It's a bonus that he's talked me out of a few bad hair choices and encouraged me to take a risk when I was feeling hesitant about a shorter haircut. If I could give Corey and his salon 7000 stars, I would. You won't be disappointed with him or anyone there- from the moment you walk in, you're treated like royalty. The vibe is always relaxed- trust that you'll be pampered!

I have to admit I made a mistake. It started when I was just looking for a place to go to get my…read morehair cut into a pixie. I picked a place other than San Marcos Hair Co. The other place had really great reviews as well and it was right around the corner from where I was so I decided to just go for it. The minute I sat down in this woman's chair I felt something was off. She didn't fully wet my hair, or even shampoo it for that matter, she just sprayed it a few times with a water bottle. Then, comes the hacking. I was screaming on the inside but being the passive and quiet person I am I couldn't tell her that I hated it. Oh boy did I hate it. I described it to my friends like this: imagine a 5-year-old was given a knife and was told to make an abstract art project with their eyes closed. This woman kept going on and on about how "sexy" it looked but I feel like we were looking at two different things. Every single part of my hair was cut into uneven chunks. I couldn't tell her I didn't like it so I just paid the $10 and got out of there! I sat in my car and tried not to cry at how horrible I looked. I was so confused because her reviews were so good! I went back to look at them and I realized these reviews were from FIVE YEARS AGO. Nothing good has been said about her since. I don't know how she managed to keep the near 5-star rating. I looked for another place to go to fix the monstrosity that was sitting on my head. I found San Marcos Hair Co. and actually read the reviews this time. They were phenomenal! I was so happy I found this place. I walked up but there was only one person there and she was busy doing a color on another client. I explained to her my situation and showed her my hair. She took me right in. Stephanie was so AMAZING and so incredibly kind. She shampooed and conditioned my hair, cut, and styled it to perfection! I was so happy with the outcome and it was such a fair price!! I have already told all my friends about Stephanie and this amazing company. I am never going to anyone else for as long as I live here, and even then I'd probably make the drive to San Marcos Hair Co. from wherever I live! Thank you so much!!

Now, curly hair takes an incredibly long time to straighten. Ashley took the time to straighten my hair and then curl it perfectly. She put an incredible amount of spray and cream to make sure it would not frizz in the humidity. I have to say, it looked great. What really stood out to me was the fact that I was treated like a valued customer. She made sure she knew exactly what I wanted and then tried to recreate it. I am very happy with the experience. I will be going back.

The most recent is one where the salon overcharged a client, and refused to refund the error, instead wanting to offer a credit for future use with the client's hair stylist. I'm removing them from our recommended list, and hope they reevaluate their shady business practices.

I have been coloring my hair since 2007, and I'm VERY particular about who I let touch my hair. Blonde is very tricky, and I want my hair to be perfect! Delma always does a spectacular job coloring and cutting my hair. She actually knows what a trim is and never cuts too much off! I'm never disappointed. She's not only an amazing hair dresser, but also an amazing person. I am so blessed to be able to have found her!! Veronica is a very nice person, but I would NOT recommend her for a balayage. The hair treatment…read moreshe gave me not only looked nothing like the picture I gave her, but it was also very poorly executed. The application style was extremely chunky, uneven, and even worse had "leopard spots" in several areas. The top looked like tiger stripes. When I went to another salon to have it fixed, they said there were areas that were left on too long and others not enough. As you look at the deeper layers of my hair, you can see the bleach was applied in random diagonal lines. Definitely not the quality you expect from any stylist let alone an experienced one. The other salon was able to fix the high stripes but because of the random application of the bleach they had to return it all pretty much to brown and start over. I have to wait 6-8 weeks for my hair to heal before the other salon can give me a new blond balayage. I am getting engaged in a few weeks, which is why I wanted my hair done in the first place, and now I will not have my hair done for day of my engagement. Although she gave me a PARTIAL refund, it did not cover the repair costs and definitely is not going to cover the second good salon visit for a proper balayage. Even if she did give it all back, the additional repairs are going to cost me over $150 more than what I would have paid if it was done right the first time. Again super nice women, but I would NOT recommend her for any hair treatment.

She always knows the best cuts, styles, and hair color for my face! She is very talented and is the only one I will let touch my hair! Crystal also has a great personality about her and makes every visit fun! I definitely refer anyone who is in the San Marcos area or even the surrounding areas to come in and visit this unique gem of a stylist! You won't be disappointed, and if you are like me and don't live in San Marcos- well, it is definitely worth the visit! Crystal also is now at the newly opened North Street Studio, and let me say that this is by far the NICEST salon in San Marcos. BY FAR! I used to live in San Marcos when I went to Texas State, and I was always frustrated by the quality of salons in San Marcos and found myself driving to Austin to get my hair done. They also have any hair product you could ever imagine for sale in their salon, so I always make sure I stock up and resupply all my beauty products every time I am in there! Everyone is so nice and knowledgeable and I definitely recommend CRYSTAL and this salon to ALL OF MY friends and anyone who is in the San Marcos or surrounding areas who is needing a quality hair cut, style, color, and highlight- for sure!
