**COVID-19 REVIEW**…read more I have been coming to Hogenkamp's for years and they are always friendly, helpful, knowledgeable, and professional. Truly fun to do service with them. I recently got a few scratches on my glasses, and called hoping that they were still open for business. I spoke with Joe about my situation, and asked if he could order new lenses for my glasses. He said it wouldn't be a problem at all. After two days, he told me that they had arrived and I could do curbside pickup! What does that mean? I was told to clean my glasses with warm soap and water, put in ziploc bag, and write my name and number on a piece of paper. As the office itself is closed, they have a chair that I could put my glasses on for them to pickup and do work on. Give them a call when you wanted to come for the work and it would then take 45 minutes - 1 hour. Sure enough, after that time frame, Joe called me and said they were all done and on a table in the vestibule for me to pickup. Terrific! Highly recommend them for any of your visual needs!

He immediately told me I just HAD to go to Joe Hogenkamp. I had a new prescription, and it just so happened that my elderly father needed new lenses as well, so it just made sense to go together. We were warmly greeted upon entering, and I roamed the displays to get an idea of what I might want. There are hundreds of frames in all price ranges. Fair warning - you will not have a quick in-and-out experience here. They take their time with every customer, and it's a busy, busy place. So plan your visit accordingly. Joe took care of Dad first, and I was so impressed with how respectful he was toward my father, explaining every detail of what he was doing and making sure he was comfortable. Then it was my turn. I gave Joe a general idea of what I like, and off he went to make some selections. He came back with 6 pairs for me to try, but although I tried them all, I pretty much knew right away which ones I was going with. I've been wearing glasses for years, and since I feel they're part of my anatomy now, I want them to reflect my personality. So I choose without looking at the price. None of those budget frames for me. And I gotta have some bling! I was pleasantly surprised by the price. Don't get me wrong - they were expensive, but still less than I was expecting. Two weeks later, our order is in! Since Dad didn't need new frames, we had to allow enough time for the tech to get his new lenses into his existing frames, which takes about an hour. So when we arrived, they took his glasses in back, and I got to have my fancy new specs fitted. When my father's were ready, Joe brought them into the waiting area to fit them on him, which was so very considerate, as it's obvious that walking isn't so easy for Dad anymore. I value service almost more than any other aspect of any business, so I can't recommend Hogenkamp highly enough. When the people taking care of you are four generations of a family, you know they must be doing it right.

Stay away from the optical department. They tried to make me glasses 4 times and failed each time…read more I asked for a refund and was refused. The manager is so bad she would not even call me. Take your money elsewhere.

I usually go to Council Opticians in Hamburg for my eye exam and they've always been great there…read more A couple years ago I had an issue that required an ophthalmologist and was recommended to ECVA. I called them and they made a same day appointment for me. I arrived there and checked in and waited TWO HOURS, while sitting right in from of the receptionists, watching people come and go. I thought maybe it was because I made a same day appointment, but there I overheard others talk about making a same day appointment for much later than me and they were called before me. Finally I went to the receptionist and it turns out she LOST my chart and that's why I wasn't called... didn't she wonder why I was sitting there for TWO HOURS (actual time- not an exaggeration). Finally, they brought me back and I saw the ophthalmologist who diagnosed me and treated me and set up a follow-up appointment for the next week. He asked if I wanted to do my regular eye exam then too and I agreed to it. He helped me with my issue and had me reschedule my eye exam with them for the next year so they can make sure everything was still okay with my issue. The next year comes and they have me see the optician, Dr Styn. I brought up the fact that I was there to follow-up on my issue the previous year. The assistant had no idea what I was talking about and didn't even bother to look into it until I kept pushing. When Dr. Styn came in, I brought it up with him too. He was dismissive of my concerns and ended up telling me that it was my own fault for having those issues because of my eye makeup! That's funny, because the previous year when I had it so bad I needed a steroid, I wasn't wearing makeup at ALL. We were still wearing masks at work and I wasn't really going elsewhere, so I just didn't bother. So tired of people in the medical field being dismissive of women when they have an issue. After the appointment, they automatically scheduled me for the next year. However, I called them a week later and cancelled it- and told the person on the phone that it was because of how dismissive Dr. Styn was. Yesterday and today I received an email and a text to "confirm" my appointment. That I cancelled a year ago. So, to sum this up: receptionist lost my chart and didn't notice I was sitting right in front of her for two hours. Receptionist (not necessarily the same one) did NOT cancel my appointment when I called a year ago as requested. Dr. Styn was completely dismissive of me. The only positive experience was the ophthalmologist I originally saw. He actually listened to me and examined me and knew that it was a case of something more than just "makeup". He listened to my needs and actually helped me. I am grateful for his assistance and wish I remembered his name.
