I contacted Tom Vo's academy in hopes to enroll my son (just turned 4 yrs old) in their taekwondo class. We are brand new to the taekwondo world. I had no background on what to expect or anything. We decided to do a trial run for a 4pm class. Upon arrival, we checked in at the office. I could tell that my son was already nervous. Walking in, there were a lot of different ages of students that were in attendance in the class. I was not expecting this. I thought it would be more so in my son's age range. I thought this was the reason Jordan asked me my son's age prior to starting the class. Right at the beginning of class, my son was crying. The instructor, Andy, was very patient with him, but was gesturing him to be quiet by putting his finger on his lips "shushing" him. He gave him a sticker and that helped stopped him from crying. And then he was following along with what everyone else was doing, (I.e., punching, sparing stance, jumping jacks, running, duck walks, crab crawls, and galloping/switching sides, etc.) I felt as though my son was opening up and starting to relax a bit (he gave me a thumbs up while running past me), but could tell he was still very nervous. When they were excused, my son came to me to get some water. He drank and cooled down, but looked up at me and started to cry again. I assure him that he was okay, everyone here is learning. But he told me he wanted to go home now. I could tell he felt intimidated and very out of place. I think this had a lot to do with the different age range of students in one class. Again, I wasn't aware of prior to starting. I really wish I knew this because that would've changed my decision in starting. We waited it out an extra 2-3 mins. Andy, came up to us and asked my son if he was ready to join, but my son was pretty adamant in wanting to leave. Andy then told me that my son wasn't ready; that he was too attached to me and to come back again in 6 months. So, we decided to leave. I know my son was capable in participating in the class. He did very well during their warm up. He was able to stay in his one spot. He followed directions. He followed his peers. At the same time, I feel the atmosphere of the different age group of students played a major factor in him feeling very out of place and uncomfortable. Later in the evening I asked my son if he wanted to go to class again in the future. He said no. And that he was scared. I asked why? And he said he was scared of the big boys in the class. I am very disappointed in our experience at Tom Vo's Academy. I feel as though I discouraged my son because I enrolled him in a class that I wasn't aware would be out of his age range. I'm concerned how I'll be able to enroll him in any future taekwondo classes because of our experience today. It's very unfortunate, because I see all these good reviews. I just wish that was our experience.

Our friend recommended Tom Vo and our daughter liked it as soon as she started on her first day. We live in Anaheim and the school is 10-15min away from us and we were thinking of transferring her to a taekwondo class that's closer to our place. But she loves her masters in this location and in westminster location too so we kept her here and seeing her improvement is really worth the drive. She's definitely very fond of her masters because she learns a lot from them and we definitely see the results. Most of her masters are skilled high school or college black belters, they are strict but funny and playful at the same time. Our daughter is 7yrs old and her lessons from them are very repetitive in the but we saw how she develops her skills. Her kicking and punching is way better, and even the exercises they do during warm up helps a lot with her physical growth and knowledge. We're busy parents and having someone to teach her this stuff is a huge help. She learns a lot about discipline and we can definitely see this character from her masters and older kids with higher belts and has been with them for a while. They do their best to accomodate everyone in all their classes. Even though there are some kids with higher belts, the kids with lower belts still get trained very well. This also helps our daughter see what higher belt holders do and she strives to work harder to be in that position too.

We LOVE Tom Vo's Taekwondo Academy. My son started back in covid times January 2021. I must say it has helped him build self confidence, self-control & discipline. Has thought him great morals and values to never give up & keep on trying. I love all the events it keeps him busy away from the tablet & video games. He has made many friends & always looking forward to winning! We started at the Fountain Valley location and now we are at Cypress and they are both great locations! I would highly recommend to anybody who is looking to give their kids some discipline, respect & great role models. Thank you Tom Vo & Staff for all you do!

Signed my daughters up back in September for the trial. They loved it and are excited to attend class every day. Instructor Bella is a great instructor and makes the class fun for the students. My 3 daughters enjoy attending the classes. I highly recommend Tom Vo.

Tom Vo's Taekwondo has been an extraordinary choice for my son! He attends 2-3 days a week, flexible schedule that allow me to be present. My son gets shown disciple and to be respectful which adds to the education I am showing at home. Tom Vo's Taekwondo has also giving my son security to not be afraid. The events they create for testing and tournament are amazing, parents are involved and all the masters go out of their way to give 1000000% of their time to the students.

    1st Place Poomse Neo Mendoza

Tom Vo Taekwondo school has been great. My son Neo started at 5 years old. Now 9 and soon to be 2nd Degree Black Belt. We came from another Martial Arts School called Candals Matial Arts Jui Jitsu, it was pretty bad there. Lazy Instructors, mediocre training excercises with no clue how to work with kids. We left Candals School to try TVT, my son didnt like Taekwondo at first, going almost daily, all the physical excercises and instructions were hard and confusing. Yet I pushed him through it because I saw the value being taught to him in the many lessons & activities. The masters were patient, understanding but also tough when he goofed off or wasnt paying attention. Eventually my son started understanding the tvt program, building confidence, making new friends and soon winning tournaments. Then he was all about Taekwondo. Loved going to classes, practiced at home on his own and was always excited learning new Moves! It may seem hard, mean or military like for 1st time kids & parents that join but believe me, there is a process, a plan and a goal. It gets easier with time and what they teach here you wont find at most martial arts schools. You can try other places but you will be wasting alot of time & money.
