Consumer BEWARE!! These people are "legally" scamming people. I should have listened to my gut and use someone else. I spoke with Kayla the manager in November 2020. I was looking for someone to re-hang wood laundry area doors, that the track that they slide on was bent/had buckled due to a heavy item being leaned against the doors. Jason quoted me over the phone, via pictures at $384.00, which included materials and labor. Kayla told me "my quote would expire after a month if I didn't use it within that time frame". This should have been red flag number one. Since I was looking for quotes, it took longer than expected. When I decided to go with this company, I called Kayla again and repeated what she told me about the quote "expiring", she implied I made the statement up, and I misunderstood her. This should have been red flag number two. Friday, January 15, 2021 Scott called me to setup a time to complete this job because Jason left the company. Because I thought the quote was high and Jason never came to my home, I specifically asked Scott to come to my home to see what was needed before going to purchase items. Scott arrived at my home at 12:10 pm, took measurements and left my home to go to Lowes which is literally 5 minutes away. He came back at 12:55 pm. He installed the new track, did not change the new rollers for the old rollers, then re-hung my same wood doors. He was done and out of the door at 1:15 pm. This is the issue that I had a concern with. I called Kayla looking for a price adjustment because the ONLY material that was bought was a $30.00 track. (Yes I went to Lowes and Home Depot to price them and the most expensive one is $30.00) once again Kayla stated I misunderstood and I should have asked questions. I asked to speak with Thomas the owner. He called me the next day. He told me "because the techs go to the store to pick up needed material, there is an up charge for service." The only thing that was bought was a track. No new doors. Nothing that weighed over 10 pounds. Was this told to me previously? NO! Thomas told me "they make sure they allow enough in the quote because they don't want to ask the customer for money in the end if materials are priced higher than expected". I asked what if it's under budget? The ONLY item bought was a $30.00 track. He told me "there would not be any adjustment, he's sorry I misunderstood and next time ask more questions." Moral of story~ they quote higher than they should and they do not adjust based on materials needed or not needed. I have never heard of such foolishness. My honest advice and opinion is to tell people NOT to use this company. Please use someone else! To Thomas the owner I hope your conscience let you sleep at night. read more

Absolutely do not trust this contractor. Mercedes Smith, my neighbor, had sub-par bathroom remodeling done for almost $30k and needs to get it re done. My service was also terrible. They do shoddy work and charge top of the line prices. I hear they are being investigated. read more

I contacted Tom the Toolman Tyler LLC - Kitchen & Bathroom Remodeling Wethersfield & West Hartford CT company after reading and researching with their company's website reviews, Google reviews, Facebook reviews, and their pictures posted on their website. But I was totally wrong. I believe they have a marketing team for doing all these fake reviews. The contractor came into my house and given me a free estimate. Then after the discussion with their administrative Assistant, I have decided to hire them for the Guest bathroom remodeling work and painting in the living room area for our newly bought home. I have written a contract for all the work that needs to do and the request for a work permit from the town as well. The contractor was a handyman and he did the entire work at my house. The bathroom remodeling didn't finish as per the contract and bulges everywhere on the drywall, its texture not aligned to the existing wall, unfinished bump out portion in the garage, unfinished Sheetrock work with holes. It's a very poor quality job. Also, he did update the lighting fixture and added a plug and thermostat in my living room which is unprofessionally placed. The contractor painted my wall without patching any holes in the living area. Also, he placed the bathroom sink improperly without taking proper measurements and added an extra layer step of hardwood wood floor panel underneath which I am totally uncomfortable. He didn't use any metal drywall bead on the corner edges and it's not straight and looks ugly. Also, they agreed and signed to contract to take the work permit from the town, but they didn't. They charged me an extra amount for taking the permit as well. Then I contacted the town and they confirmed they didn't receive any recent request for the town permit for starting the work(Including electrical, plumbing work) at my place. Also, I believe the person who did this job doesn't have a valid plumbing and electrical license as well. I do have all the pictures on my mobile with the timestamp for before and after work. After the contractor finished his work I contacted the company owner and sent all the pictures to the owner Tom Tyler via email and he agree to send another contractor, he is a Sheetrock professional. He understood the problem and he said he can't do any repair which wouldn't come good instead he can only do replace the entire thing. Then Tom asked me to pay an additional amount to this guy on the top of the initially quoted amount for replacing their poor unfinished poor quality job. I disagreed with him and I said I cannot pay any extra amount on the top of estimated. Then he sent another person for doing the repair work and he is the Sales Manager in his team but his work didn't make any improvement or any progress. He worked 4 days in my house every day a couple of hours and he also left the job as unfinished. Tom's office is just a few miles away from my house and I requested multiple times to him to come and take a look at the work did by his workers. But he never showed up and instead, he and his team members argued with me via email/phone that I am sending before pictures instead of finished work. Totally unprofessional manner. Now I have all the pictures with date and timestamp to show him. Finally, his tone and way of talking changed and they threaten me to pay the remaining huge balance amount. Now I am going to file the complaints against them. They worked 25 days for this entire job and its shoddy, poor, ugly job. I have documented all their written emails with pictures. It was a very bad experience with Tom and his team. Beware, they are running this business with inexperienced people. Thoroughly Unprofessional and perhaps fraudulent. read more

Contracted with Tom for our only bathroom. I made several mistakes including not getting a detailed quote. After a 37% down payment, they started the bathroom job on 5/23/22 & it took 5 months to complete! Proper town permits were only obtained after I had to push to get them. The shower drain leaked terribly into the garage, had to be taken out & replaced. Electrical work was improper & had to be replaced. Wrong floor tile installed & had to be taken out. Terrible inconvenience for several months. Now realize that the cost was too high. Tom has now decided that the job is done and things went nicely. I have a damaged sink & he plans to place a mechanics lien on the house due to a remaining balance of $1,900 after paying him over $27,000 for a 6 ft x 9 ft bathroom. Stay away from Tom the Toolman Tyler. He does not know the business, is arrogant and is not customer orientated. Would not recommend him to anyone. Professional work expected for money spent. Not the case here. Update: A Mechanics Lien requirements appears to be in favor of the contractor. Paid Tom the Tyler Toolman except for unsigned change order. He responded that he would place the remaining $425 into collections. Paid the $425 just to be done with him. Stay away from doing business with him. He did not care that our only bathroom took 5 months. No apology. Not a customer orientated business nor run professionally. read more

Tom's and team came and installed a Laminate Bamboo floor for us in our kitchen. It is truly beautiful! Toms extensive knowledge, expert craftsmanship, professionalism and attention to detail were the best we have ever experienced from any other contractor. Tom is also a friendly and easy going guy. Although I had a positive experience with them in the past this will be the last time I deal with them. After having one of their sub contractors look at a plumbing job at my new home and receiving a proposal in WRITING upon accepting the proposal AND PUTTING DOWN their required 50% deposit the office called saying they could not/would not complete the job at the quoted price.
