There is lots of parking, both underground and outside the premises. The basketball court looks very new with shiny floors, high ceilings and is well lit. I didn't notice any paint fumes while there that others have complained about. Half court ($80 per hour) and full court ($120 per hour) rentals are available with advanced booking. Drop in use of the basketball courts ($15 per person) is from 3-10pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. They have membership pricing for pickleball and table tennis. Early bird discount prices ($5) for pickleball from 8am to 10am, with prices ranging from $10-$15 the rest of the day.

I always try to avoid going to Crosby Memorial Community Centre for any activities or event or…read moreclasses. Compared to other Markham's Community Centre this is the worse of them all facilities wise. The equipment here: mats, dumb bells are all so dirty! Then I found out that Crosby was "opened in 1928 with an arena pad with a sand floor base and four dressing rooms. In 1959 the sand floor was converted to concrete. Additions were made to the arena in 1962 and 1971, and in 1974 seating was added." 1928!!! Even the newest additional was added in 1974..... The only good thing about coming to Crosby is it is right inside Old Unionville. Ended up a lot of the participates ended up coming to the various coffee shops and cafes after their practise sessions!

I enrolled my 6 year old son in 2 programs at NTR. The power skating program was pathetic. The…read moreratio was at least 6 kids to one coach. However, only one coach was coaching. He would demonstrate a drill and then the kids would follow. The other coaches merely skated back and forth, from one end to the other in silence. Any coach knows this is not an effective way to teach young kids, as they do not gain knowledge from a monkey see, monkey do platform. I also registered him for the 3 on 3 house league. This was an absolute disaster. There were four teams and two of those teams were select super teams. Those two teams dominated while the teams with single registrants floundered. Goalies were consistently absent. Players were consistently absent. Stereotypical crazy hockey parents were prevalent on the benches using foul language and denigrating small children for their play. On more than one occasion there were more than 5 parents behind benches when all you needed was two to manage the doors. NTR management did not care. This place is exactly what hockey Canada is trying to reign in. It is the Wild West of minor hockey.

The town's hockey office is here too, right behind the spectators seats of the main ice pad. The main rink has enough seats to host a Jr A or an OHL game. Alas, there is no JrA or OHL team in Richmond Hill. Hence these seats probably never get warm. The way this rink is built, the pillars and columns supporting the roof may block the view for those sitting the upper rows, which is a minus. That's just the way they used to build rinks bank in the day. The arena is warmer than most yet the ice is of decent quality. They have recently renovated the entire arena and the rink has received a sound proofing upgrade. Now it's not as echoey and noisy as before. The secondary rink has only a couple of small benches for the spectators. You can also watch the game or the practice through the glass from the hallway upstairs. The snack shop is usually open and offers coffee, tea and a limited variety of snacks. The pro shop is hardly ever works. At least I have not seen it open in a long while. There is one or two party rooms that are frequently booked for birthdays and other events. There are a few parking spots near the main entrance. There is a time limit there and the town is quick to write a ticket (don't ask me how I know LOL). There is a huge parking lot behind the building, in between the arena and the baseball diamond. And even more parking across the street.

A moment of nostalgia overcame me when, during a random yelp search, I came across this Yelp…read morelisting. As a kid growing up in Richmond Hill, this was minor league hockey Mecca. I can still recall getting my house league hockey assignments in novice and atom and knowing that the games would be in either Elgin Mills East or Elgin Mills west arena. As mentioned already, one side is definitely meant for the likes of a junior team, a seemingly larger ice surface, and tons of seating (far more than a gang of parents huddled together watching a 6am practice can fill). Having a game here as a youngster was like being drafter and playing in the NHL. The other side (much smaller) was meant for younger teams, house league, summer hockey, etc. While the spectator areas were limited, the best seats in the house were from the enclosed viewing deck above. Funny story about the latter, I was once playing goalie in house league and had been just told about the aggressive style of play of the once great Ron Hextal... I took the story far too literally and leveled a kid on the other team with an unsuspecting goalie paddle to the back. Ohhhh boy. Somehow I avoided getting into trouble Ha ha. But you can be the didn't come near MY crease ever again. Glad to hear it's received some much needed renovations as even playing here as a 7-10 year old in the early '90s I could tell the place needed work. But it was home, it's where I got my start and if I'm lucky enough to have kids one day, I'd love to see them play here one day (even if it's just a visiting game). This is a really cute skate trail that's actually in the GTA! There are others in Muskoka and such,…read morebut those are such a trek. This one is also conveniently located by the Tom Graham Arena so there are facilities and parking nearby. They had an art show the day we were going so the lot was quite full on the side closest to he community center but there was still a lot of parking spots farther on. The skate trail actually has a little dedicated area for changing that's indoors or they have tables and benches outside (fingers might get cold!). It's a trail through some trees that kind of loops around so it's a lot more interesting than going around in circles. They play music as well to add to the liveliness.

Come in the mornings when there are less people. Many families come here with smaller children who are trying to learn too. There are no borders around the trail so be careful of skating off trail. This was one of 3 arenas you would play or practice in if you grew up in Richmond Hill in their…read moreminor hockey league system. Typically Ed Sackfield was reserved for practices and the odd Select level team game against visiting teams. It has ample parking, lots of enclosed, heated viewing spaces for parents, and a fair amount of stands. I recall in the 90s that Ed Sackfield was kind of like the fancy arena, it was newer, slicker, had automatic doors (fancy fancy). The issues here were ventilation and figure skaters. Due to the larger ice surface here, it was prime training space for Figure Skaters and there was seldom a game where you didn't go ass over tea kettle from hitting a divot in the ice caused by a pair of figure skate toe picks. As for ventilation, there were many many instances where I developed severe headaches and asthma like symptoms within the first 20-30 minutes of stepping on the ice here after the Zamboni had cleaned the ice. Either the machine had issues or the exhaust was not being properly ventilated, and at the time I wasn't alone, others I played with exhibited similar symptoms. It's been a long time since I've been back so I'm sure those issues are all but remedied at this point. Would love to bring my kid here for skating one day

I'd imagine if you're early enough you'd be able to find a spot at the park but otherwise it'll be a little more difficult. I saw lots of people waking from their homes, some parked on side streets in neighbourhoods, some on lawns of nearby establishments and a lot parked in plazas a short distance away. Just after 10 pm and still no fireworks. Everyone standing and sitting where I was saw the fireworks down the street. I contemplated finding out where those were seeing as nothing was happening here. An announcement was made and they had some technical difficulties but would start in several minutes. Once the fireworks started I thought it was good that I decided to stay and watch the ones here instead. They went on for quite a while. Perhaps 20-30 minutes or even longer. Once they had started cars driving by stopped to enjoy the fireworks as well. You'll need lots of patience when it's over and everyone wants to leave at the same time. It was such a backlog of vehicles all trying to leave the plaza at the same time. If I'm able to I'd like to attend more of the event next year.
