Most dog owners are nice and there seemed to be regulars here. They are friendly and for the most/majority of dogs and their owners, they are pretty nice and friendly. I like that my dogs feel comfortable there and can take some time to socialize with other dogs as they pleased...or can be left alone if they weren't in a mood to play with other dogs. There are also water area to get your dogs a bit refreshed and free poop bags if you ever need them, too. The only thing is just that not everyone picked up after their dogs. While the parks are generally clean, I've seen poos lying around here and there..and I wished owners would at least look/clean up after their dogs. Otherwise, I like this park the most so far..to the fact that I take the time to drive close to half an hour each way several times a week to this park to entertain my dogs (most visitors seemed to be locals in the area/live very nearby).

We, and the fur kids, LOVE this dog park…read more Unlike most (all?) other dog parks, this is NOT one big, flat, open, space. Whereas most parks are stripped of all weeds, plants, etc, leveled, sprinkled with few trees, benches and some bark mulch all inside one big fence, this park was designed to be different. In creating it the city intentionally left in place most of the existing plants, terrain, etc. Some trees were planted on both sides, bark mulch, and benches were added, and voilà! A new type of dog park was born! There are two play areas for your dog to choose from. One for big(ger) dogs (25+ lbs), and one for smaller dogs (under 25 lbs), divided down the middle with a dirt/gravel walking path. The first section is a large area with an obstacle course, one covered set of benches near the course, and more uncovered benches placed throughout. While this space is designated for bigger dogs, smaller dogs are welcome too, provided they're okay hanging with the bigger pups. On the west side of the park is a smaller, but equally nice smaller dog area Like on the big dog side, there's one covered set of benches, along with few uncovered stand alone benches placed throughout. Unfortunately though, there's no obstacle course on this side. The north side of the park has an entrance/staging area that has a pump, a big (plastic) bowl for water, and a couple of benches. The gates for both the big and small dog areas are accessible from there, as well as the entrance to the path dividing the two sections. There are more parking spaces on the south side of the park than on the north, so if you're coming by car I'd plan to use the lot on Ventana Village Rd (just W of Universe) which is right next to Ventana Ranch Elementary. That south side also has staging area, a pump, water dish and benches. The entrance for the bigger dogs play area is accessible from the south, but the small dog area is not. To get to there you'll either need to take the path I mentioned above, or walk through the big dog area and out to the staging section on the north end. There's only one gate into the small dog play area, and it's on the north end of the park. My only complaint about the park is there are quite a few ants in the small dog area. It's not overrun, and if your dog is spending their time running around, then they probably won't notice them. But they are there, so be aware, and watch where you sit/stand. I don't know whether the big dog side has the same problem, as we spend all our time on the side for the littles. We don't come here as often as we probably should, given how close it is to our house (about a 5 - 10 minute walk), but it really is a great park, and a nice thing to have so close to home. If you're anywhere near Ventana Ranch, you and your fur kids should come check it out!

I was really impressed with this dog park when I first arrived. They have two really large…read moresections; one for dogs under 25lbs and the other for dogs over 25lbs. They even have a dog course in the park which I thought was really cute and fun for the dogs. I am giving it 3 stars because of the people. No one followed the rules and there were big dogs on both sides. My dogs do well with old big dogs or calm big dogs; not hyper or energetic big dogs. At first, it was just a guy with one old lab. Then another guy with 3 big calm huskies. Then a lady came in with her 4 rowdy big dogs and one small dog. After that is was chaos, they were chasing my dogs and trying to dominate. Once we noticed the rowdy dogs enter, we tried to leave. Then more people with more big dogs came in and were causing my dogs to run away scared. It's one thing if you have calm big dogs or if the park was void of little dogs but common courtesy to just follow the rules or at least ask if we minded. What's the point of a split park if big dogs are on both sides. Might as well remove the fence. Which doesn't matter cause the fence is short enough that once we did get our dogs to leave a dog hopped the fence into the in between fence where you leash/unleash. He was just waiting for us to come in so he could play with my dogs. We just waited and he hopped the fence again but now on our side! Just too much stress for my dogs and I sadly won't be going back. I really had high hopes when we first got there. I was in love with the park but it's just not worth it for my dogs. If your dogs mesh well with big dogs of all types, I highly recommend. It is a great park as long as the people are respectful.

As the human mother of a neurotic herding dog, I have traversed the area for adequate dog park…read moreterritory. The bottom line is that Bullhead is fine but not great. There are two areas, both located behind one of the baseball fields - one area is more grassy but fewer trees, the other with wood chips and better shade. There's a water fountain on the far east end and plenty of available trash cans and clean-up bags. I don't have children but taking your dog to the dog park seems to pull a number of similar themes with taking your kid to the playground: 1) safety, 2) sanitation, and 3) camaraderie. Safety: I don't believe it's truly fair to judge a venue by its patrons, but the pups that frequent Bullhead are "tough." Anecdotally there seems to be more rough (but generally safe) play than just trotting around, friendly sniffing, or lounging in the shade. This works for many pups, but not all. Obviously this fluctuates with the temperament of the dogs present. Know your dog and assess the situation appropriately for him/her. Sanitation: Despite the numerous signs around the park, owners seem to neglect that Rover and Sparky will probably using their playground opportunity to relieve themselves. Please, folks, clean up after your dogs. You don't want to step in that and you REALLY don't want to clean those smelly paws after your dog tramples through a pile while chasing a frisbee. Pick it up - it's the right thing to do. Camaraderie: There is a clear group of "regulars" here. They know each other and they know each other's dogs. Initially this felt a bit like the 3rd grade playground - "Who's the new girl? Her dog seems weird..." (you get the idea) but they have warmed up over time. There are only a few benches in this park along with some free floating patio furniture, so seating can be hard to come by. Overall, it's a matter of convenience that we go to Bullhead, rather than a love of the place. We'll be returning for more pup playtime and hopefully new furry friends to be made.

As dog parks go, this place is great. Tennis balls are laying around everywhere, there's plenty of…read morewater buckets. Lots and lots of people-seating, including permanent benches and a picnic table. There are ample shade trees too. Though there's no grass, there is a section of Astro turf where the people can avoid dirt/mud whilst standing around. The boulders are a nice touch, breaking up the topographical monotony. It's also nearby Tingley and caddy corner from a great park playground for the kids to enjoy while the parents monitor canines. It looks small when you first pull up, but once inside you find ample space for a healthy run of chuck-it. The only reason I don't give five stars is that there's no grass. I do recognize that grass would be impossible to maintain at a dog park, but somewhere... in Hollywood or Miami or something... is a dog park with lush, manicured greens, so I have to reserve that fifth star for when I find it.

Arf. This is a pretty arf-y park. It's a dog park located…read moreright, right off the freeway and 2nd Street. There's a place where you can let your dog off the leash and run wild. There's a large "urban camping" situation going on at this park. Lots and lots of people camping out here, with pitched tents, little shelters, lean-to structures, and the works. There are some pretty good examples of cool structures that can be made out of tarps and shopping carts. The park is bisected by 3rd Street, which cuts right through the heart of it, dividing Coronado Dog Park from Coronado Skate Park, which seems to have even more of a population of campers. Parking for this park is rather difficult, since it's right along busy streets. There's no restrooms here, and most of the trees seem to be dead/dying. Perhaps from the lack of water or the tremendous amount of pee. This isn't a good example of the parks that the Land of Enchantment has to offer. I'd suggest going elsewhere, even if you do need to walk the dog. If you're having some early morning hair of the dog, then this might be a good place to go. Fortunately, you don't have to worry about your dog running onto the freeway, since it's elevated at this point. There seems to be no segregation for big dogs and little ones. I wouldn't come to this park after dusk.

It's not spacious where dogs could run and play without bumping into equipment or other dogs or people but a nice size. What I don't understand is how can people watch their dogs, poop and walk away!
