I was very hesitant to come here after I read all the terrible reviews but my experience was pretty good. The girl doing my nails did a great job and she got started right away with no wait. I was ready to give 5 stars until I went to go wash my hands. The sink was so nasty, it had at least a 1 inch think band of black mold on the inside of the sink bowl. I've never seen black mold like that! It was around the whole sink. That could easily be cleaned but based on how much mold was there, its clear its been neglected for months. Very unhygienic and disgusting. Also I got a no chip mani and the UV light you put your hand under was filthy. I hovered my hand in there so I don't touch anything. When I got home I gave myself a nice scrub down because with the mold and the filthy UV light, I just felt dirty!! So all in all, I liked my nails and the girl doing them but my god this place needs a good cleaning!! read more

I went in for a pedicure to finally get rid of a pedi I had from may. My massage chair did not work. This is my single most annoying thing about the visit is that the way it was malfunctioning is to start for about 10 second and end mid back and then start again at random. It was the opposite of a good and relaxing experience I was hoping for. The Pedicure it's self was not that spectacular. I opted for the salt scrub add on, it was ok. I wouldn't pay for that again. My toes look like they put one coat on and forgot to put on a top coat. it's all bumpy feeling and it's not a textured polish with sparkles or anything. by the time my nails were dry and I could touch them I had run out of time to go back and get them fixed/done properly. read more

This place was terrible. My nails weren't done properly and were rushed. They had a huge line of people and were taking forever. The manicurist cut my cuticle so it was bleeding and made the heart on my nail look deformed. I still had to pay for it. There were also a bunch of air bubbles in my nails so they didn't look smooth and polished over. Even though the prices are great I'd rather spend 30 for a good job then 23 for a terrible one. read more

I used to be a frequent client at Tokyo that thoroughly appreciated their work! However, after returning recently I am very disappointed by the overall quality of their services. None of the nail technicians were friendly or attentive, and acted as if they were rushing through their work just to get us out of the door. My manicure was also done in a sloppy, unprofessional way. I would not recommend anyone there, nor will I return myself. read more

Truly the most horrible customer experience I have ever had. After booking an appointment, I was surprised to see no readily available techs ready when I arrived. Instead, the owner of the company stopped what she was doing on one client and took a few minutes to buzz off my previous no-dip and put acetone cotton swabs/tin foil on my nails (something I thought was incredibly rude to the other client, but I've seen this done before in a pinch and didn't think much of it, but really foreshadowed the experience I was about to have). I figured I would wait while she finished the other customers nails, and when finished in a timely manner, would jump over to mine. Boy was I wrong. After about 20 minutes of waiting patiently (which is already too long to leave acetone on my nails), I asked if she or someone else could take them off soon since it was starting to BURN. She sort of half nodded and went back to her other clients nails. In the middle of waiting, I was asked to move seats for another client, and then 30 minutes later and still no response, I took things into my own hands (literally) and desperately pulled the acetone tin foil off my nails (while in BURNING PAIN). 45 minutes later one of the other techs came over and shamed me for doing so. They ended up switching me to yet another seat (3rd one by now), shaving the rest of my old nail polish off, and asking what color I wanted... 1 hour into my appointment and they were just getting started on my nails... when I told the owner I no longer wanted service since I was so disappointed in my service so far, she stopped and asked for $10 for taking my polish off. I thought this was unacceptable and told her "no." She went on a majorly aggressive tangent, in front of all the other customers in the shop, and refused to let me leave without paying her. She told me she had been running her business for 13+ years and "this is how we do things," and that it was "normal" to leave the acetone soaking for 30+ minutes (something I assured her I've never experienced in the 10+ years I've been getting my nails done). I paid her $10 out of pity (how sad do you have to be to treat your customers like this) and left with the most incomplete nails I've ever seen. I vouched to never return and told her I'd be writing a review to warn others about (1) the bad service - something I could have gotten over if any empathy was given (2) the horribly unprofessional service I've ever received. I think the saddest thing of it all (besides the poor state of my nails) is that it felt like she gets this response often. Wonder if it's time for her to close up her shop. It certainly doesn't feel like there's any pride in what she does. Unless she enjoys ruining people's days and stealing their time... then making them pay for it. Seems super sad. I have come here multiple times as a walk in, but only received services once. I returned because they are the most sanitary nail place I have been to, using individual kits for every clients. However, it is very clear that they play favorites. I have been passed over up to four times by people who came in after me without appointments. It is clear they are profiling in some way. Although, I can't figure out their logic at all. Younger girls tend to get called back faster, but it has nothing to do with familiarity (regulars) or appearance (money). Even when I did get my nails done they were rude and condescending. With women, their doesn't seem to be reason to it, but they are clearly much better to some customers than others. I put up with it for their cleanliness and location for a while, but I wouldn't go back. The last time I was there I took my mother here for a girls day out to get a 'special' mani/pedi (with all the extras), which we said when we came in. They offended her to the point she wanted to leave. I was so embarrassed. There is no excuse to be this rude. This industry is all about customer service and the customer service at Tokyo Nails is deplorable. They aren't that great at nails either. Bottom line- not relaxing or fun. Don't come here it's one problem after the next came here with my mother I wanted gel manicure and she wanted a fill in they took me first and I was almost done by the time they finally took my mother the lady had told my mother that she was on a phone call and it was going to be awhile. Really lady your at work get off the phone, so when my nails were dry I paid then got told 10 more minutes later that my glitter nail was going to be 3 dollars more after I had paid then I said I wanted to pay for my mothers this is the worst part they charged my card for 46 dollars when my mothers nails were only 23 dollars she clams she refunded it back but still I have to wait 3-5 business days to see if my money is back in my account!! I had an appointment with a specific nail tech and I was contacted 10 minutes prior to my appointment and informed she would not be able to take me. Over the phone it sounded like the lady said she was still with a customer and someone else could take me. I only like the nail tech I made an appointment with. I also like Heather M. came here multiple times and received horrible customer service,but they're one of the cleanest salons close by my mom in Homewood so I will probably continue to come. Jessica is the only one I will let do my overlays. She is awesome at this and has mastered not putting a thick overlay on my nail bed. I also paid an extra $10 dollars last week(2/19) to get a sea salt scrub and 10-minute hot stone foot massage. OMG, that was a wowzer! I would give that experience a five-star by its self. Yes,they do have HORRIBLE customer service,but they are clean and have a huge selection of color(O.P.I. , essie,china glaze,etc.). Will I be back? Probably so. read more

I'm surprised this salon doesn't have 100 5-star reviews by now. This salon is the best in the area. The prices are affordable and average ($30 for pedi and mani) but the service is like your at a high end salon! Every time I go there the ladies are always so friendly. They go above and beyond their duties and I always leave happy. During the pedi they do a hot rock massage on the feet and then wrap the legs in hot towels. During the mani they have marbles in the bowl where you soak your hands. When I go there to get my eyebrows waxed ($10) they spend 20mins perfecting my look. I had to ask the girl to go over some spots she missed and it still only took this long. Pretty good place to get your nails done. The place was clean and pretty busy, which is generally a good sign. Prices seemed pretty darn good, too. Only thing I'd recommend is having a better selection of colors for no-chip manicures and better massages. I'd pay more to get a little more than just a 30 second lotion rub. read more

DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY NOR TIME HERE!! The manager of the place was extremely rude to me AFTER SHE MESSED UP MY NAILS, and I asked to get them re-done. She said to me with an attitude, "Girl, I didn't know I didn't know how to do it right, it is what it is, I have other customers so no." The first mistake was calling me "girl," when I'm a customer, you address me as miss. Also, how do you mess up someone's nails and basically tell them to just deal with it? When I asked for a discount because I should not have to pay for something that I didn't want, she told me no and proceeded to say that she would call the police if I did not want to pay full price. i have been here once before and my previous experience was fine, but i went today WITH an appointment and the place was crowded and they were definitely overbooked. in any regular circumstance i would've merely looked past this, but the woman doing my manicure and pedicure was doing my nails so rough and fast trying to rush my appointment. in doing so, she cut my cuticle on my big toe which bled the entire time i was there and i had to come home and sterilize. she then cut my ring finger cuticle as well which again drew blood.. all because she was being so rough and was rushing due to the high volume of people. i was truly disappointed as i wanted this mani/pedi for my graduation but not only did it hurt, i now have to sterilize and keep an eye on it so that i do not get any sort of infections.... very disappointing..... and a less serious complaint, with the rushing, she filed my nails poorly and they were uneven and i had to fix those as well... basically, the service was poor and she was too worried about rushing that she did not do a quality job and cut TWO cuticles enough to draw blood.... i am not very happy with this experience... truly don't think i will be coming again, which is a shame as i had good opinions of this place before this. read more

A keeper. 7 or 8 skilled mani/pedi attendants working when I was there, very little waiting. I *think* they open a new sealed bag of clippers etc for each pedicure client--at least they did for me and the woman next to me--I really like that. $22 for a pedicure, another $5 for a design on your big toes. And they'll trim your toenails as part of the pedicure, which I also like (some in the area won't...I called around to ask). The shop itself was clean and pretty--and efficient. My friend and I have been going to this salon for the past 6 months faithfully every two weeks. Staff is okay, have not had a questionable encounter until yesterday. Their punch card promotions are not in favor of the customer. You get a card for finger nail service, pedi service, and another for paying cash...why? Here is the problem, I received my free pedi after reaching 10 services rendered on my combined cards. However, my friend had 9 punches on one card and one cash punch on another card. What do you know, that did not qualify her for the free service. Smh... they should have ONE punch card for dollar amount spent like other nail shops. I thought you should encourage patrons to diversify their service experience. When I confronted management about the unfairness and told them we will go elsewhere if my friend had to pay, we were told "that's your choice"! Whoa... okay! Bye! Tokyo Nails has gone down in class since the new owners took over. I thought I would try them again. The service was just ok. Thought I would give them a second chance. Went into the place with my husband and told them 2 pedicures and a no-chip. They asked it they could do my no-chip first. I said "No", then the Chinese fighting came out. So it seems they were arguing over who was going to do what. The pedicure chair was broke do I had to switch to another. My feet was in the water so I was told to switch of which I had to ask for a towel to dry my feet to move to the next one. The whole service was substandard. I will never go back. NO stars! Been going here for 4 years the employee turn over is high, no one speaks English well enough to work in America!! The tech I LIKED keeps trying to use dirty tools on me I have to ask her every time to get a clean pack, last two times she put dirty tools in an autoclave bag and tried to play it off, she did it again today then I noticed old cuticle clippings from someone else on the tools I forced her to get a new pack and she gave me attitude! After reading reviews, went here looking for Susie because she's the owner & was disappointed with my service. My daughter & I went in for service. I asked if they did chrome nails, she said yes for $20 more. I agreed, as long as she was doing them. I got my fill in & as she's putting the chrome on I noticed areas she was missing. I Asked her to apply more around the cuticle area & maybe she should use a different tool. She said no & went on with her technique. Needless to say I left there without my cuticles bring cleaned up, polish on my fingertips & my nails still felt wet or tacky. By Wed my nails looked like they were a week old. You could start to see the polish underneath my chrome. The tips were rubbed off already because it wasn't properly applied. I've worn chrome nails for about a year straight from another nail salon & never had this issue. I'm even willing to pay more when it's done right because of the high shine & it's so pretty. I went back 2 days later to ask if I could just get a polish change. It should've been complimentary because the $20 service I paid for obviously didn't last. Susie said I'd have to pay $8 for basic polish. She's done chrome before & this never happened to any of the other clients. I explained that I didn't do anything different & showed her my nails. She insisted that I had to pay. I got the chrome removed & left. As a new client looking for a place to patronize, this was a big turn off. She lost a potential client. read more
