Tofu Ya in Japantown off Sawtelle Blvd is such a great spot for Korean comfort food. The food was delicious, and it's basically a Korean BBQ and tofu soup house all in one. What makes Tofu Ya different is their combination option. You get to choose your Korean BBQ dish and then pick between a tofu soup or cold noodles. I really liked having that flexibility because you can mix and match depending on what you're craving. The Korean BBQ was flavorful, the tofu soup was comforting, and the cold noodles were a refreshing option. It's a great way to get a little bit of everything in one meal without having to choose between your favorites. If you're in the Sawtelle area and looking for Korean BBQ and tofu soup, Tofu Ya is definitely worth adding to your food list. The downside to this location would be the lack of parking. There's nothing but metered parking with a one-hour limit. Also, the restroom is located in the back of the building. It requires you to leave the restaurant and walk through the driveway. read more

I would give this 3.5 stars--not amazing but better than ok for sure. I ordered the vegetable tofu soup for delivery and was excited to see all the sides that came with it, I wasn't expecting that! I felt like the sides were tastier than the actual dish - which I ordered it spicy. I felt like the broth or vegetables needed some more seasoning, it was a bit bland aside from the spice. read more

One of my favorite places to go to for Korean food. Prices still reasonable and also so authentically delicious! Typically the owner is in the back and there is a chef. Only one server running around doing it all but so efficient. Casual ambiance. Lunch specials are my favorite. read more

This place is super small and at the time they didn't have seating for Al Fresca. It's like a knock off BCD tofu. The prices were fair and service was alright. The food was good though. I got the bibimbop combo that comes with the tofu soup. And it was delicious. Just fyi they do have a restroom but it's outside and behind the building. The wait didn't seem to be that long especially compared to the other spots on Sawtelle read more

The Baseline: For Korean bibimbop/soup restaurants the soup base must be quality, the quality of the meat/rice of the bibimbop, and the accompanying sides. Food: I like the soup at Togo Ya, I had the Kimchi beef soup and it had a good amount of beef/tofu. The ingredients are quality and the accompanying fish cake, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, etc. were great with the main. Service: Good solid service and my water glass was kept filled. Atmosphere: No muss, no fuss type of restaurant experience. Plenty of seating and there is an outside patio. read more

We came here around 2:30pm ish on a Saturday afternoon but were quite disappointed. We ordered 2 combos, so had bulgogi and a combo tofu soup, and another meat and soup combo. We also ordered 2 rice bowls. During the time we dined however, a homeless person walked towards our table and asked for food. We declined. However this homeless person still harassed us by picking up the meat directly from our bulgogi plate which was quite intrusive. The worker there at that time said it wasn't there fault and that we were to just shoo them, that is was our responsibility. However I would think this is their establishment (Tofu Ya) and their responsibility for also keeping their restaurant safe and free of harrassment, so this turned out quite to be a disappointing experience. read more

I always get the clam soondubu soup and it is delicious. I love the broth which has extra clam flavor. The pork sundubu has similarly delicious pork broths It is in my top two soondubu restaurants.Beef bulgogi is decent too. I love the fact that I can get delicious soondubu outside of ktown read more

Food is great here! We ordered a combo with dolsot bibimbap and kimchi soondubu, as well as a combo with bulgogi and naengmyeon. We also tried the kimchi pancake. We really enjoyed all of the dishes! One small hiccup was that they forgot to bring out our dolsot bibimbap and bulgogi out, but this was resolved after we brought it up :) overall enjoyed this place! read more

One of my favorite spots in sawtelle. I still drive from the south-bay for the seafood soup and galbi.

This was one of the favorites in Sawtelle. A lot has changed since I was there last, their banchan selections not as generous for two people. They used to give each person their own banchan. Although the food was still very good, I ordered the Tofu Ya seafood combo soup (perfect for cold weather), bulgogi and galbi. Prices is still reasonable and portions on main orders are generally generous. Service was a okay, that day 1/20 @ 4pm and it was not busy. The only negative is the rest room, ask for the key. The person did not give the key when we needing to use it. read more

Tofu Ya is so good, I can't believe I didn't get a chance to come here earlier. Really flavorful tofu soup and you have the option to get water broth here. I got the mini veggie dumpling sundubu and chicken teriyaki with rice, and both were delicious options. The kimchi pancake had an almost mochi like texture to it, and we had so much food enough for a day of leftovers. The banchan here is also excellent and the staff here is really nice. You'll most likely also won't be met with a wait which most restaurants in sawtelle usually are. read more

I don't go to Culver City often, but I decided to check this place out. I've been to quite a few places in Koreatown because I work there, so going to tofu and barbecue place outside the ground zero of Korean food in the city is kind of risky. You know what? Food was pretty good! Loved the spicy pork, loved the potato pancake! The service was great! The potato pancake sauce was not as good as other places. The potato salad was pretty good too, almost as good as the Ktown places. Maybe it's because my palate isn't as well-versed in traditional Korean food, I don't know, but I found the pork on par with the more famous places in Ktown like BCD or Surawon. I really enjoyed it, and I hope others support this place. If I were closer, I would definitely be at Tofu Ya more often. read more

I've been here four times with friends and family, and I am impressed by the food every time! Restaurant is small, but clean, and staff and always friendly, but generally quite busy. The menu is huge (especially the tofu soup section)! I typically order the beef bulgogi, as it's one of my favorite bulgogi meals in town. The meat always comes perfectly seasoned and sizzling in a hot dish. The ban chan is always very good as well! My friends always rave over the sundubu and ban chan. My biggest concern/complaint: there is no bathroom in the building, and the bathroom outside behind the restaurant is not very clean. read more

I was in the mood for Korean food and walked over to Sawtelle. I've always wanted to try this place out and finally did on my day off. It's not a big restaurant but it certainly has tables inside and a few outside. I sat outside and ordered the galbi combo which you get a choice of tofu soup. I chose the dumpling soup. My server was super nice and everything came out great. The soup and meat were sizzling as they got brought out. So glad I only live a 10 minute walk from here. I highly recommend trying this place out! read more

Great food for a good value. Very affordable for a large quantity of food. We shared the bulgogi combo and the one combo easily was enough for 2 people. The staff is nice and the location is in a great spot in sawtelle if you want to walk to get dessert or go to a couple of shops. My only note was that the ambiance isn't the best inside. The to go order prepping area is visible and the lights are kind of bright. However would recommend as a good place to grab food without much of a wait for lunch. read more

Good quality tofu soup and probably the best you can get around SAMO and Culver City. It's definitely not as good as ktown but will do if you don't wanna drive to ktown. The service was friendly and fast. They charge extra for barley teas... idk if anywhere else does it in ktown. Bulgogi was a also little too sweet. read more

If you want some Korean food not trying to go to Ktown this place is good. A solid option in the busy street and it's one of the place where it doesn't feel too packed! The tofu stew is really yummy and flavorful. And all the banchan is great they also refill if you ask but you already get a lot of food that's solid. The staff leaves you alone but if you call out for them they come. read more

This place is located on the popular block in Sawtelle with a bunch of great restaurants. It's fairly easy to miss as it's a little small, and parking isn't ideal in the area (mainly metered street parking). I was in the mood for some Korean food and wanted to explore my options in the area. I found this place on Yelp and placed an order for pickup. The online ordering system is really clunky, and the website forces you to make an account in order to checkout. I kept running into issues after creating my account, but I finally got it to work, and my order was almost immediately confirmed as being ready for pickup in 20 minutes. I got the galbi and soondubu combo (I opted for the seafood and beef, medium spice level). The galbi was decent enough, but the soondubu was honestly super bland. There wasn't much spice to it, and there was hardly any flavor in general. I was quite disappointed with it, to be honest. On the bright side, they gave a generous amount of side dishes - those were also pretty good. Overall, this place was not as good as I hoping it would be. I don't think I'd come back for soondubu, but perhaps some of the other items are worth a try! read more

Delicious tofu soup, good service. Utilitarian ambiance, so great place for food but perhaps not a romantic date

This place is delicious and really hits the spot when you're craving Korean food! It was a hot day so I wanted to get cold noodles. When we arrived there was a bit of a wait but it wasn't too bad. The restaurant is a little small but they have indoor and outdoor dining. The cold noodles were great! It came in a big bowl and the noodles were long. The soup was sweet and refreshing. The banchan was also great and I loved the fish cake. I would definitely come back and it's one of my favorite Korean places in Sawtelle. read more

Delicious! More of a take out place. But I always enjoy their hot soups and banchan. Been coming here for years.

When the tofu soup craving hits, Tofu Ya is the place to go. We ordered takeout from this place and were eager to try the other Korean restaurant in Sawtelle other than Seoul Tofu. This one is a little farther off the main strip but honestly wayyyy better. Worth the side tour. We ordered pork bulgogi and cold noodle on the side, a combo that is perfectly sized, and the denjang tofu soup with beef, miso, seaweed. They have yummy appetizers that come with each order as typical service and that taste more authentic than Seoul's: fish cakes, kimchi, japchae, and cucumber! One star off because it's sad that the typical 6 appetizers that you get in house become 4 just because you order out, and because there was barely any beef in the denjang, but otherwise this place is generous with portions and highly recommended. read more

This is my second time trying this place and both times have been a disappointment. I'll start with today. I ordered the spicy cold noodles although the taste was fairly good there was no meat (not even a sliver), it wasn't cold (it's supposed to have ice), no ban chan (not even one), no vinegar (to add as preference). All I got was this bowl and chopsticks. There was only one server and three tables occupied but service was very slow. The first time was a couple months ago when I ordered tofu soup over the phone and realized I placed the order at the wrong place. I went to Seoul Tofu to pick up my food then realized my mistake. Came here and the server wasn't very nice. Took my food home and it had an odd aftertaste. I still can't figure out what it was but I ate my meal and decided to not try that again here. read more

Finally reviewing Tofu Ya- one of my favorite Sawtelle restaurants! Bulgogi - tender beef marinated in Korean bbq sauce- quite tasty! It's a good spot on sawtelle Ave, not too busy when other places are packed. The prices are very fair and the portions were sizable enough. I do not recommend the tofu soup with crab that my friend ordered. The crab was very small and difficult to get any meat out of it. The bibimbop combo was very good, I'd order that again. read more

The service was extremely slow. Waited almost 45 mins for our food to come out. Even people coming in for take out or Uber eats were waiting for a while. If you come here expect to wait and wait some more. Seems like they focus primarily on take out vs in person customers. The seafood tofu has clams that were really sandy and gritty. Not pleasant at all! read more

This was somewhat of a mixed review situation. While two in our party loved our meals, two did not rave about their meals. Part of the letdown in experience was the service - we interacted with our waiter only three times: to be sat, to have our order taken, and to have the order delivered. No refills, no options, no consulting for the menu. Very bare bones. As for the food, the special seafood tofu soup was tasty, but came with a lot of inedible sea creature shells. It was simply too hot, served in a piping hot stone bowl, to sit there and dissect my meal. The seafood had to come home in a take out container to be eaten. The intense temperature also plagued the dolsot hot pot bibimbap. Their meal was incredibly hot for over half an hour. The highlight of this meal, however, was the outstanding bonchon appetizers that are complimentary for the table. It was fun once and did on a pinch, but we probably won't go back. read more

We ordered dinner from there and, in my opinion, it was the worst tasting food and it was not worth the money. $31.99 for Galbi and only got 6 tiny, and gristly pieces. Also ordered Japchea with vegetables but there were 2 pieces of shredded carrots. In my opinion, this place is the biggest ripoff and not worth the time. And their sides do not justify the cost. Plenty of other much better Korean restaurants that serve higher quality food and reasonable portions. We will never eat here again. read more

Just received my delivery order: 1 - dumpling soup medium spice 1 - medium jap chae 1 - spicy cucumber The dumpling soup they sent me was actually tofu soup, regardless it was received Luke warm. Since there was nobody willing help w a reorder or refund, I decided to heat it up and try it. It literally tasted like spicy water. Awful. Jap chae was recieved cold and the noodles were all stuck together. Also there were no vegetables. Didn't even bother trying it. Spicy cucumber was maybe 2 out of 5. Again no flavor and no spice. This was my 2nd time ordering. The first time was just as bad. Thought I'd give them a second chance. Ended up regretting it. Don't make the same mistake I made, stay away from this place at all costs. read more
