We came here around 2:30pm ish on a Saturday afternoon but were quite disappointed. We ordered 2 combos, so had bulgogi and a combo tofu soup, and another meat and soup combo. We also ordered 2 rice bowls. During the time we dined however, a homeless person walked towards our table and asked for food. We declined. However this homeless person still harassed us by picking up the meat directly from our bulgogi plate which was quite intrusive. The worker there at that time said it wasn't there fault and that we were to just shoo them, that is was our responsibility. However I would think this is their establishment (Tofu Ya) and their responsibility for also keeping their restaurant safe and free of harrassment, so this turned out quite to be a disappointing experience. read more

Food: I like the soup at Togo Ya, I had the Kimchi beef soup and it had a good amount of beef/tofu. The ingredients are quality and the accompanying fish cake, kimchi, cucumber kimchi, etc. were great with the main. Service: Good solid service and my water glass was kept filled. Food is great here! We ordered a combo with dolsot bibimbap and kimchi soondubu, as well as a combo with bulgogi and naengmyeon. We also tried the kimchi pancake. We really enjoyed all of the dishes! I've been to quite a few places in Koreatown because I work there, so going to tofu and barbecue place outside the ground zero of Korean food in the city is kind of risky. You know what? Food was pretty good! Loved the spicy pork, loved the potato pancake! The service was great! The potato pancake sauce was not as good as other places. The potato salad was pretty good too, almost as good as the Ktown places. Maybe it's because my palate isn't as well-versed in traditional Korean food, I don't know, but I found the pork on par with the more famous places in Ktown like BCD or Surawon. I really enjoyed it, and I hope others support this place. If I were closer, I would definitely be at Tofu Ya more often. read more

This was one of the favorites in Sawtelle. A lot has changed since I was there last, their banchan selections not as generous for two people. They used to give each person their own banchan. Although the food was still very good, I ordered the Tofu Ya seafood combo soup (perfect for cold weather), bulgogi and galbi. Prices is still reasonable and portions on main orders are generally generous. Service was a okay, that day 1/20 @ 4pm and it was not busy. The only negative is the rest room, ask for the key. Tofu Ya is so good, I can't believe I didn't get a chance to come here earlier. Really flavorful tofu soup and you have the option to get water broth here. I got the mini veggie dumpling sundubu and chicken teriyaki with rice, and both were delicious options. The kimchi pancake had an almost mochi like texture to it, and we had so much food enough for a day of leftovers. The banchan here is also excellent and the staff here is really nice. I've been here four times with friends and family, and I am impressed by the food every time! Restaurant is small, but clean, and staff and always friendly, but generally quite busy. The menu is huge (especially the tofu soup section)! I typically order the beef bulgogi, as it's one of my favorite bulgogi meals in town. The meat always comes perfectly seasoned and sizzling in a hot dish. The ban chan is always very good as well! My friends always rave over the sundubu and ban chan. My biggest concern/complaint: there is no bathroom in the building, and the bathroom outside behind the restaurant is not very clean. read more

Great food for a good value. Very affordable for a large quantity of food. We shared the bulgogi combo and the one combo easily was enough for 2 people. The staff is nice and the location is in a great spot in sawtelle if you want to walk to get dessert or go to a couple of shops. My only note was that the ambiance isn't the best inside. It's fairly easy to miss as it's a little small, and parking isn't ideal in the area (mainly metered street parking). I was in the mood for some Korean food and wanted to explore my options in the area. I found this place on Yelp and placed an order for pickup. The online ordering system is really clunky, and the website forces you to make an account in order to checkout. I kept running into issues after creating my account, but I finally got it to work, and my order was almost immediately confirmed as being ready for pickup in 20 minutes. I got the galbi and soondubu combo (I opted for the seafood and beef, medium spice level). The galbi was decent enough, but the soondubu was honestly super bland. There wasn't much spice to it, and there was hardly any flavor in general. I was quite disappointed with it, to be honest. On the bright side, they gave a generous amount of side dishes - those were also pretty good. Overall, this place was not as good as I hoping it would be. I don't think I'd come back for soondubu, but perhaps some of the other items are worth a try! read more

This one is a little farther off the main strip but honestly wayyyy better. Worth the side tour. We ordered pork bulgogi and cold noodle on the side, a combo that is perfectly sized, and the denjang tofu soup with beef, miso, seaweed. They have yummy appetizers that come with each order as typical service and that taste more authentic than Seoul's: fish cakes, kimchi, japchae, and cucumber! One star off because it's sad that the typical 6 appetizers that you get in house become 4 just because you order out, and because there was barely any beef in the denjang, but otherwise this place is generous with portions and highly recommended. read more

Sandubu on the westside, this is my spot. Always solid. Been coming here for over a decade and never had a bad meal. Today I opted for the kimchi and added dumplings. Hard not to get the bibimbap but didn't have the appetite today. Banchan is always solid especially when they have their potato salad, sadly, not today. This was somewhat of a mixed review situation. While two in our party loved our meals, two did not rave about their meals. Part of the letdown in experience was the service - we interacted with our waiter only three times: to be sat, to have our order taken, and to have the order delivered. No refills, no options, no consulting for the menu. Very bare bones. As for the food, the special seafood tofu soup was tasty, but came with a lot of inedible sea creature shells. It was simply too hot, served in a piping hot stone bowl, to sit there and dissect my meal. The seafood had to come home in a take out container to be eaten. The intense temperature also plagued the dolsot hot pot bibimbap. Their meal was incredibly hot for over half an hour. The highlight of this meal, however, was the outstanding bonchon appetizers that are complimentary for the table. It was fun once and did on a pinch, but we probably won't go back. read more

This is my second time trying this place and both times have been a disappointment. I'll start with today. I ordered the spicy cold noodles although the taste was fairly good there was no meat (not even a sliver), it wasn't cold (it's supposed to have ice), no ban chan (not even one), no vinegar (to add as preference). All I got was this bowl and chopsticks. There was only one server and three tables occupied but service was very slow. The first time was a couple months ago when I ordered tofu soup over the phone and realized I placed the order at the wrong place. I went to Seoul Tofu to pick up my food then realized my mistake.
