Truly, there are other shops that might claim to have that traditional vibe, but I've yet to discover a more traditional-willy-wonka-oliver-old-school kind of sweet shop. As you got in you are surrounded by shelves literally packed with sweets in jars - barley sugars, aniseed balls, chocolate pennies, sugar mice, licorice buttons - I could go on endlessly. I think it was the nostalgia that made it so exciting. There were two counters where both shop assistants had scales and aprons and measured out portions of delight to the happy waiting customers. Prices were pretty reasonable considering, I'd guess, they have the monopoly on the market - certainly in Otley at least! I left with a quarter of aniseed balls and a quarter of shrimps. One very happy camper.

It has very cleverly stocked a mammoth range of sweets that most people will remember from their childhood. It means that most end up purchasing a paper bag of treats, purely down to the nostalgic sugary buzz it brings with it. They have all the retro style sweets such as bon bons of all varieties, rainbow puffs, dib dabs, cola bottles, fizz whizz popping candy, flying saucers, drum sticks etc etc etc....and they also stock some classier goodies such as stem ginger (my grandma's absolute favorite). The staff are very friendly, with their wide eyed sugary stares and massive grins that you imagine to be sticky to the touch. Willy Wonka eat your heart out. They also have a website and the option to purchase from their wide selection online, although I wouldn't suggest that you make a habit of it!

This store is really small, and despite being located in quite a new mall, this store is highly old-fashioned and not a great place to be. The cafe is located upstairs, with no lift access, the staircase its-self is a really old one, considering the mall was built in 1977, it felt like this store hadn't been refurbished of that kind ever since. The selection also was a little poor other than probably around one wall of products, which were traditionally stocked items at a Thorntons store. The staff didn't seem too helpful, I wasn't welcomed until they saw me taking photos around the store, which I have uploaded onto Yelp, which seemed a little self-serving, how they only offered to help me when they saw me taking pictures, perhaps because they thought I was a reviewer or undercover shopper of some sort. Overall, this store is a poor branch, it is highly old fashioned and a little poor too in terms of service and selection, hence sadly warranting a single one star rating.

They really were delicious, and went down like a dream. Included in the price was a sample chocolate from one of the company's collections. I had a dark chocolate based on those from the city of Milan, and Mary had a Seville caramel. There were brownies and caramel shortcakes on offer for only £1, but I restrained myself from getting these, as I felt I would burst with an ounce more chocolate inside me. The staff member that served us was friendly and helpful, and filled up Mary's water bottle, no problem at all. Definitely recommended.

I leave a message, they text back to say they are sending another (and another small gift) and it should arrive Monday, today. Royal Mail deliver late morning here, and milk man delivers about an hour earlier. I spent £56 on getting f##### over and I'm so angry. Don't waste your money on these 'premium' chocolates. They can't even get their deliveries correct and I paid for priority delivery. No offer of refunds, plus their chocolates have a three month best before date. Not pleased at all.

The mint thins are a favourite and are a good after dinner treat. It's quite expensive in here, but it's worth it for high quality chocolate. They have a counter service where you can build your own box of chocolates, or they have lots of pre-boxed stuff - both there brand and others. They also sell novelty items such as chocolate mice. Worth a look in if you are in Keswick - I challenge you to resist coming out with something!
