Hi,
We have moved with 2 men and a truck before and had NONE of the issues I am going to talk about below. We decided with this move to go with a locally owned company for 2 reasons. 1. We enjoy supporting local business. 2. We expect more personal service.
The first issue:
The guys came to our home at 7am. By 10am, they were all packed up. They informed my husband (I was not around when they talked to him, otherwise, I would have questioned it then), that they were going to take a 1 hour lunch break. Yes, a LUNCH break at 10am.
problem a. no one told us to expect the movers to take a 1 hour lunch break in the middle of moving.
problem b. apparently 1 hour actually means 1.5 hours. They do not leave the first residence at 10am and get to the 2nd at 11am. They clock the hour when they sit down at the restaurant!!! I was shocked when they showed up at the 2nd residence at 1130 (only a 12 minute difference between residences) and when I asked why it took more than an hour, they explained that the hour starts and stops at the restaurant. I have never worked a job where this is the case. I think it is ridiculous.
problem c. I officially lost 1.5 hours in the middle of the move
problem d. When I called and spoke to Todd's wife, she was VERY - and I am not exaggerating when I say - VERY RUDE to me. She was not at all interested in the fact that I was very upset by the fact that I lost 1.5 hours out of my day, but also at the suggestion that they might tell their customers ahead of the move to expect for the men to take an excessively long lunch break. When I asked to speak to someone else, she responded, "I am Todd's wife!" ...I suppose that means that Todd would treat me the same way? Oh and, when I told her I would never go with their company again and to expect me to leave a poor review, she hung up on me!! Now, if that's not professional, I don't know what is!
The second issue:
The movers asked me if I wanted them to move our TV's. We talked for a minute about moving them ourselves in my husband's Tahoe - but came to the conclusion we should let the movers because; a. we paid for insurance, so what's the risk? and b. we are paying them to move stuff so that our day would be less stressful. Sure! Go ahead and move them for us.
Here is the issue. We were told AFTER THE FACT that we owed $50 per TV. ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!! These TVs were flat screed plasma and LCD's. They weighed literally nothing. What the heck did we pay for insurance for, when apparently we were going to pay for insurance for each TV as well. I tried to dispute this and the mover just said, "sorry". I was afraid to call "Todd's Wife" again, because that had already been a disaster.
IF they would have said, "do you want us to move your TVs? It will be $50 each" then me and my husband would have said a resounding "NO!"
The third issue:
Todd's Easy Moves will make you pay full "estimated" price, in cash, before they unload the truck at your new residence. They will "over estimate" on purpose. So, they did. They said they would be done at 3pm and they were done at 2pm. Well guess what!!! They will not refund you the money. They will write a check and mail it to you over a week later!!! So now, the company that has taken advantage of my time and my money - I am now giving them a loan!
RIDICULOUS!!!!
PLEASE DO NOT GO WITH THIS COMPANY. IF YOU DO A LITTLE PIECE OF ADVICE. DO NOT BUY INSURANCE. You pay for the weight of the item. Well, when they dropped our $1200 rower (a piece of exercise equipment) twice, it dawned on me that I am the one losing. If the rower broke, it probably only weighs about 45 lbs - I would have gotten less than $50 for it.
Regardless of how angry I was at the whole situation, I still gave the movers $30 tip each - $90 total. They were all in their early 20's and maybe even younger. I did not want to short them for such a poorly run business. read more
