Several months ago, I became apparent that I had a ventral hernia that needed to be repaired. After doing some research and speaking with some OR nurses I chose Dr. Harris for my surgery. Tread lightly here when considering Dr. Harris for your hernia repair. I'm quite happy I opted to not have surgery based on my experience. I had ultrasound results completed at a different center - and had them sent over to Dr. Harris in advance of my appointment. The results were neither reviewed nor discussed - my 10 minute clinical examination included Dr. Harris saying "you definitely have something going on down there" and more time attempting to enroll me in an opioid sparing study. Additionally - his medical office manager sent me another patient's information and surgery date via email in advance of my surgery. After this happened I pulled the plug. I was treated for laparoscopic left inguinal hernia repair by Dr Harris. The care and prep by the staff was 100%! Lucy made sure I understood everything prior to my arrival. Karen (one of the nurses), prepared me for surgery. She was more than helpful and placed me at ease before and after the procedure. The gentleman who placed me under Anastasia (either Indian or middle eastern) was awesome and also made sure I was taken care of. Before I knew it I closed my eyes and I thought seconds passed by, but the procedure was completed by Doctor Harris. Dr Harris did an outstanding job. I'm in my 4th day of recovery and my swelling has gone down and I'm walking better each day (I was able to run errands). He also personally called be Sunday and made sure I was doing good. He did such an amazing job, that I didn't need any pain medication. I've been using only Tylenol and ibuprofen as needed. I didn't care for him. Brought his girlfriend into the examination room which I thought was unprofessional. Also, when I went for my follow up examination after the surgery, he did not check or examine the area. He just asked me "how are you feeling?" I am now feeling pain again in the same area prior to the surgery. Another surgeon reviewed my ultrasound results from prior to the surgery and said the surgery was unnecessary. This is long overdue. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank Dr Todd Harris & staff for giving me the benefit of their many years of experience but beyond that, their patience. I am a small business owner. I did a real number on myself lifting something that was too much for one person. I work a lot and usually at the convenience of my clients so I am constantly on the move. This made it very difficult for me to take the time away needed to repair my double hernia. In fact, it took me 10 years to be able to take the necessary time to have the surgery done and still have time enough to heal after. I had visited Dr. Harris 3 times over those years. Each time believing I had a window to get this done only to have a client project take the opportunity away. We were finally able to set a date. They answered all of my questions and set my mind at ease to prepare me for the surgery. The big day came June 13,2024 at 2:00pm. Everyone was very attentive, pleasant, and considerate. So much so that I almost forgot how nervous I was because I had never had an operation before and frankly the idea of someone inside my body made me uncomfortable. When I awoke after the surgery I was still pretty medicated so I didn't feel much of anything. After the medication wore off I didn't feel near as much pain as I had anticipated. I was going up and down the stairs in my home after 2 days, although very carefully. I have fully healed now and am able to resume a much more active lifestyle at work and at home. Anyone considering someone to perform a hernia surgery should not hesitate to use Dr. Harris. I'd bet he performs more hernia surgeries in one year than some doctors do in their entire career. I would not recommend at all. Went into the office for a hernia consultation paid the $200+ fee and the dr Harris did not even bother to look at the area i needed surgery on or look at any of the medical documentation I had brought. I could have done the consultation via telephone. Waste of time, money, and just overall red flags! Found another surgeon that was more invested in actually helping me and properly evaluating me. Remember someone is going to be cutting into your body. If a doctor cant even be bothered to properly evaluate you, then you're just a number and think of what type of after care you'll have. read more

I had my inguinal hernia repaired by Dr. Harris in July 2024. I own a marketing company and I am on the Internet every day researching my client's and their competitors, so doing market research comes natural to me. I have learned how to distinguish between fake or company posted reviews from those that are genuine. California Hernia Specialist checked off all of my boxes. I felt comfortable and confident making the appointment and meeting Dr. Harris. I was not disappointed. The staff and Dr. Harris were great. I, personally find it annoying when I go do meet with a doctor and you can tell that they believe that their time is so much more important than my time. They don't mind letting me wait in the reception area and then in an exam room for 30 minutes or more while they see other patients so that every minute is about billable time. I never had to wait for any unreasonable amount of time. They were genuinely concerned about my condition and time. I did not feel rushed when I met with his staff or Dr. Harris. They asked questions and answered all of mine as well. The surgery center was also a good experience. The staff there was also caring and answered all my anxious wife's questions. The surgery went great, and my recovery was not difficult. I followed their advice and iced a lot. I only took one Advil and one Tylenol (the second pill probably was not necessary and took just in case I might experience some pain). It's just been a little more than a month after the surgery and I have been back in the gym lifting weights and running on the treadmill and more. I was a little concerned about doing abs or core workout, but no pain or problems there either. I have no hesitation or reservations about recommending Dr. Harris and his practice. read more

I needed hernia surgery and eventually found California Hernia Specialists, run by Dr. Todd Harris. I was impressed by the informative videos and the transparency of his data/results. Dr. Harris has good reviews on Yelp and the medical review websites, and there was no long wait for an examination or a surgery date (I wanted it fixed ASAP). During the exam, Dr. Harris answered my technical questions and the staff was efficient in getting the paperwork done. Marisol was especially helpful with getting the medical clearance. I had laparoscopic surgery three weeks later and the results were good. I had mild to moderate pain the first few days, but ice packs and Tylenol helped a lot. I had significant swelling and bruising but no complications, no infection, and no need for opioids. The first few nights were slightly uncomfortable but sleeping pills helped with that. I felt pretty good one week after surgery. I'm very satisfied with the surgery provided by Dr. Harris and would recommend him to anyone who needs hernia surgery. The surgery was done at Prime Surgical Center in Newport Beach and that facility is excellent. I've reviewed them separately (also 5 stars). Additional Details: Laparoscopic surgery did NOT result in less pain, swelling or bruising than open hernia surgery, which I had seventeen years ago on the opposite side. The bruising/swelling in my genital area (after laparoscopic surgery) looked scary but was mostly gone ten days later. I have three small incisions, one near my belly button and two below my belt line. It's too soon to say how visible the scars will be. read more

I assume no one likes to go to the doctor, let alone having to go in for surgery. I developed an inguinal hernia as a result of some heavy lifting yard work without stretching first. It is always better to get it taken care of right away, however I really was scared about where to go and of course how it would go. I saw a couple of doctors who did a quick exam to verify the hernia and explain what would be involved. Although informative, the way the options were explained, they all sounded horrible. I was not comfortable with anyone yet. Some how through looking around on the internet I opened my computer and Dr. Harris video was on my screen waiting for me to play the video. I was very impressed with what he had to say and scheduled an appointment. The staff working for Dr. Harris are truly amazing. I met Dr. Harris and for him this is just another walk in the park, his experience and personality are a blessing. I liked what I heard and scheduled the surgery. The staff at Memorial Care Surgical Center at Orange Coast were polite and happy. Worth mentioning as it seems now-a-days this is not always the case. When I went in for the surgery, I changed and laid down to wait. Each member of the team that would be working with Dr. Harris came in 1 at a time and introduced themselves and what their role would be and to answer any questions. How amazing to see personalities behind the masks and to know who will be taking care of you. Every one was amazing and I felt very blessed to have such an awesome team looking out for me. The anesthesiologist came in and said she was going to give me something to relax a little. Last thing I remembered, then I was waking up a couple of hours later and ready to go home. The first few days was not bad. I read reviews and took the icing on and off seriously. I did not take any medicine as I know it is not good for us, unless in major pain. After a week I woke up with swelling on the right side(hernia side)about 4 times normal which is not a pretty sight. It starts to recede after about 7 to 10 days then I was dealing with some discomfort at the three entry points(laparoscopic). During this time Lucy was simply amazing making sure I had proper documentation for work and making sure to address any questions I could possibly have. Dr. Harris is lucky to have such a great staff. I would definitely recommend Dr. Harris to any and everyone that needs Hernia repair work done. I'm an active 60 yo who likes to ski, mountain bike, and backpack and I race motocross in the vet class 20-30 times a year. I choose a laparoscopic repair with mesh after I suffered a left inguinal hernia dragging 500lbs supersacks of hemp biomass around a CBD lab. I felt a small twinge in my lower abdomen and stopped what I was doing. About a month later I noticed the tell-tale bulge of a hernia - or at least it better be a hernia I thought. I knew exactly when and where I did it. The only question was where and who was going to patch me up and how long was I going to have to wait, as I was scheduled to be in Steamboat Springs Co for another few months, a pretty rural area with a limited surgeon pool to choose from. This being my first surgery I wanted a Surgeon with lots of hernia experience but not too old to effectively wield a scalpel or whatever it is they wield. I had to let it go until I was back home in SoCal and hopefully could find a specialist that accepts my insurance. I found Dr Todd Harris through his extensive web presence and am very glad he accepted my insurance. I have to give props to EVERYBODY, from Mari and the receptionists at both Dr Harris' office and the surgery center to all the nurses who took excellent care of me. You can tell they all like their jobs. Follow up and communications before during and after surgery was excellent. I got phone calls from Mari pre-op and two nurses and even Dr Harris after surgery to check how I was doing. My initial consult was very quick as I really had no questions after doing a little research on the procedure I was going to undergo and a short review of his very informative website, and it was pretty obvious what I had going on; however, I got the impression Dr Harris would've taken the time to answer any questions I had. I was given very informative material re: Pre-Op, Post-Op, Recovery and Pain Management from Mari and she explained everything re: insurance, any remaining costs and what to expect next as far as a pre-op blood test and an EKG. The day of the operation I was told to show up a little early as the Dr. sometimes starts early. Sure enough, as soon as I checked in I was called to a room to get suited up and was able to lie down and relax with a warm blankie....nice. A few minutes later they checked my BP and started my IV port and Dr. Harris popped in and explained the anesthesiologist would be by soon to get that started, he came in soon and gave me something that I thought he said was going to help me relax and get me ready - it may have been the actual anesthesia - I'm not sure. Pretty soon I was wheeled into the operating room. I was just waiting for the Doctor to show up and the anesthesiologist to give me my final dose and have me count backward like in the movies. The next thing I know I wake up back in the room I started and my nurse pokes her head in as soon as I open my eyes and tells me, All Done! Huh?! Sure enough, I look down to see the 3 small incisions I expected - and NO Bump! No bandages, no stitches, no staples, and no pain just a nice manscape and derma glue job. Granted I suffered what I think is a very basic hernia that I get the impression Dr. Harris could've managed with one hand tied behind his back. Regardless, my recovery has been a walk in the park. I'm a big believer in ice for injuries and I was pretty good the first couple of days with that. I think that helped a lot because I've only taken 3-4 Ibuprofens total more out of precaution than pain with minimal swelling and discoloration and at 2.5 weeks I've already gone on a little trail ride on my motorcycle and feel like I could almost start working out - but I know better. In short, I'm very confident I'll be 100% soon and be able to make a scheduled 7-day backpacking trip in August (90 days post-op) and start training for and racing motocross asap. Can you tell how satisfied I am with my surgery? I had inguinal hernia surgery last February 18, 2022. I had previously researched a few potential providers, but I decided to pursue Dr Harris. I had my initial consultation appointment in December 2021, and then we agreed on the 2/18 surgery date. Everything was organized & planned perfectly and efficiently, and on 2/18 I was in & out of the OC/NB Surgery Center in 3 hours (checked in around 6am and left around 9am). I was diagnosed with a hernia from my primary care doc who referred me to a HOAG group that was booking months out. With a baby on the way I was seeking someone who could do the surgery quicker so I could be fully recovered by the time a baby was here so I booked a quick appointment with Dr. Harris. My appointment wasn't covered by blue shield PPO so I was told I'd have to pay $227, but I went for it hoping to get seen and fixed ASAP. At the $227 appointment I met with Dr. Harris who felt my hernia for two coughs and said yep, that's a hernia, and moved on to get me an iPad to watch a video about the process. I went into the scheduling room, paid another $50 bucks to get the billing lady to research my coverage. Over a week later she got back to me with pricing. During the wait a cancellation got me in to a normal surgeon, Dr. Beanes. Dr Beanes did a real evaluation and felt something on my other side as well. He said best practice would be to get an ultrasound just to confirm. Dr. Beanes prescribed the ultrasound which found a second hernia on my other side Dr Harris didn't even take a glance or consider. Would have absolutely wasted a surgery with Dr. Harris. I cancelled my appointment with Dr Harris for surgery weeks in advance and then today just got another bill for $400.06 for my 2 minute office visit with him I'd already paid $227 and $56 for billing. So for now, I've paid $627 for a 2 minute appointment that would have resulted in me still needing another surgery right after because of how not thorough the check was. Would absolutely steer clear of this place if you have a hernia. read more

I ws referred to Dr. Harris by my PCP back in 2020 for a hernia. I didn't want to do surgery at that time but remembered him being very nice so I knew when I was ready to have surgery it would be with him. Fast forward 4 years later I knew it was time since my hernia seemed to get bigger. I met with Dr. Harris again and his scheduling coordinator Marisol. I cannot say better things about them! Marisol was there every step of the way. Always responding to any of my questions. She never made me feel alone throughout the process. Dr. Harris is a master at what he does. I would not recommend this business. I went in for my consultation yesterday and the entire process seemed very robotic and cold. Scheduled my surgery for January, but decided to cancel after careful consideration in reference to my experience at the facility. Upon entry, I filled out the paperwork and then met with nurse to take my blood pressure. Completely normal, no issues there. My main concern stems from meeting with the doctor after seeing the nurse. I expressed my interest to have an umbilical hernia repaired that had possibly reopened 8 years after my initial repair. Within the three minutes of consulting and by simply poking me repeatedly in my umbilical region, he concluded thatI had two tears and was willing to treat me with mesh which I am completely opposed to. After the extremely short consultation, the nurse came in with an Ipad. The Ipad was a cartoon of what the procedure would intel during pre op, post op and finally meeting with the scheduler to go over financials and schedule a date. I personally feel that it is extremely important to know for certain through imaging or even by consulting with the prior physician before planning surgery. There are plenty of surgeons who are compassionate and patient enough to thoroughly evaluate and have impeccable bed side manner. read more

Dr. Harris saved my life! No other Dr could figure out what to do with my fibroids around my uterus. I refuse to believe other doctors saying I needed a hysterectomy. No, thanks. I did my own research and found Dr. Harris. He performed a Uterine Fibroid Embolization procedure that stopped my severe cramps. I am happy to say that for the first time, I am able to walk around during my menstrual period. I am no longer crying and feeling helpless. I am no longer anemic and I am no longer bloated. I got a ventral and umbilical hernia repaired by Dr. Harris and it was the best experience ever. I was SO nervous and scared to get surgery but Dr. Harris answers any questions I had and was so patient. I couldn't have asked for a better experience the day of my surgery at memorial surgery center. The nurses at the hospital did everything they could to make me feel comfortable, they were amazing and took the best care of me. Dr. Harris is the BEST, I woke up from my surgery and I felt completely pain free for the rest of the day. I was prescribed pain killers and didn't even take any of them because I was never in pain, mostly just discomfort. The first three days were the most discomfort but after a week you progress so fast, I was going on walks to stay active. I know multiple other people who got the same surgery as I did but from other doctors and they did not have the same experience as I. They had a much longer recovery time and were in much more pain or had complications afterwards. Doctor Harris it the BEST for hernia repairs and I'm so grateful that I went to him for my surgery. If I ever have to get surgery again, I will 1000% go back to Dr. Harris. At my follow up three weeks later Dr. Harris told me it was healing perfectly and I could start to gradually return to my active lifestyle. While waiting for surgery, I could lift light weights and swim along the way. The day of, Dr. Harris came in and checked on my calmness; I had never had surgery before, and he confidently said all would go smoothly. I left the center about two hours later, walked upstairs to my bedroom, and spent that day, Friday, resting and taking short walks in the house. The weekend was more rest, but I could get around the house, walk the neighborhood slowly, and always eat regular foods. Only Advil and Tylenol were needed. There was mild pain at the incision site in the belly button, but icing and short walks for those first few days were not bad at all. Each day after, I took longer walks, and then by Day 4/5, I was back at it, walking much more, picking up kids from school, etc. I followed the guidelines closely even when feeling great. By Day 14, I was at the gym lifting light weights, etc. There was a little gas left in the pubic area. I thought I heard the mesh move or pop in and out, but that disappeared. I also had some bruising at the belly button and below for the incision points. All of my surgical glue came off by Day 20. I am on Day 32 today, and all the bruising has nearly faded. I am back to lifting weights, jogging, and surfing as usual. There are very dull aches here and there, and also a little scar tissue near the belly button that he said will go away. I hope the other side stays intact, but I would go back to Dr.Harris and his team without hesitation. Everything was great; they communicated well and stayed prompt for follow-up calls, and in 30 days, I have reclaimed my life to the full extent. read more

I am writing this review as a physician assistant student who had the opportunity to do my general surgery clinical rotation with Dr. Harris. I have completed all of my clinical rotations and can confidently say that my experience with Dr. Harris was one of the most beneficial and informative rotations I had. He is extremely knowledgeable and does an excellent job educating students as well as patients. He challenges students to think and speak like a professional health care provider. He has an excellent approach to patient care, providing patients with all of the information they need to make their own informed decision of whether or not to have a procedure, without pressuring patients or advising unnecessary procedures. I went to Dr. Harris because of the great reviews on yelp. I had an ultrasound that said they "suspected" I had a small hernia. I pressed Dr. Harris and the fact that the conclusions had the word suspected in it and if i actually had a hernia or not. He examined me and didn't feel one, but from symptoms and the ultrasound, he thought surgery was needed. I also pressed Dr. Harris to look at the ultrasound results himself and I brought them with me. No one at the office looked at the imaging results. He didn't want to look at them and when I showed him a picture on my phone I took of them he said he didn't know how to interpret them because he's not a radiologist but thought the Radiology company who did the test was credible. After getting a second opinion from another hernia specialist along with a second ultrasound, MRI and the head of radiology at this new hospital reviewing my first ultrasound results, their conclusion was I do NOT have a hernia. In short...I think any surgeon should do some type of verification before they are willing to operate. I am very glad I second guessed Dr. Harris' recommendation and went with my (hernia-free) gut. They spent more time trying to figure out how to bill my insurance to cover the surgery then determining if i actually needed the surgery. (Seperately, they also billed my insurance close to $500 for a 1-hour face-to-face consultation when the entire discussion took 10 minutes (15 max!), but thats a whole separate issue) read more
