Awful experience. Just wanted to get my teeth cleaned but spent 40 minutes being pressured to get an unnecessary deep cleaning. Felt like I was at a Timeshare presentation. Walked out without getting teeth cleaned, found a new dentist and was informed my gums were perfectly fine. read more

I hadn't been to a dentist in over 10 years. I'm currently in a trauma treatment program for cptsd and a large component of it is learning to take care of your health as a way to cultivate self esteem, value, and love to create a solid foundation to build from. I'm so glad I came here. I've never been treated with as much dignity, respect, and compassion by any doctor as much as I've been by dr.jamil and her staff. This was a huge step for me and everyone there was incredibly kind and supportive. I've got a lot more work to do, but dr.jamil didn't make me feel pressured or overwhelmed even with several cavities, gingivitis, annnnd a strong overbite that's gotten to the point where it needs to be addressed. She was extremely professional and kept me at ease the entire time. I came back for my gingivitis cleaning and the hygienist who took care of me was just as amazing. This is the first dentist I've gone to in 11 years, since I was a teenager, due to anxiety. Dr. Jamil and her staff is excellent. I've had a couple appointments with them in the past two months and they exceed all expectations every time I go. If I remembered everybody's name I would give them a shout out but sadly I do not. UPDATE: Well. My *second* crown came off less than two years after being placed. Dr. Maya will do nothing to resolve the issue. He doesn't care. His pride is blinding his humanity. He won't even speak to me to resolve the issue. In what world does a dentist do this to his patient? Completely unheard of. I had to spend over 225 dollars having the crown put back on. More pain. More time out of my life to fix a problem he caused and refuses to take responsibility for. It's complete abandonment. I was given a refund for my first tooth after having to wait months and months for him to finally give in and be a decent professional. But he's back to his stubborn old ways, unfortunately. Please, I urge you, read my original review below and do the dentistry yourself if you have to--just don't come here. Here is my original review: You see many scathing reviews on Yelp and write off many of them because they seem to be poorly written by unintelligent people whose default state is that of overreaction. Well, let me tell you this: This is not one of those reviews. Much of my extended family has been going to Maya for decades--maybe he was good back then and they have fond memories and aren't paying too much attention these days, but now? Not so much. Allow me to substantiate that claim. He's been in business for way too long and is using newish technology (Cerec) that he has no clue how to properly wield ("It's kinda like a video game!" I quote. Good start, Doc...). I had no need for crowns (corroborated by a legitimate dentist) but he suggested I get them due to molar pitting (when, in fact, my tooth walls were 100% sound and all I needed were simple fillings), and I stupidly didn't do my homework. Do. Your. Homework. Think twice unless you want to spend over a thousand on each tooth for substandard work that you're being entirely up-sold on. The Cerec system may be newfangled and "amazing" but it requires the cutting away of too much tooth structure to make room for the pure-porcelain crowns and its accuracy is not as good as the tried and true method of a lab-generated crown. The tech is just not yet there. Or at least not yet there for the tech-illiterate. It may be ok in the hands of younger dentist who knows how to use a simple trackball and a computer... Bottom line is philosophy--Maya purports a desire for perfection and beauty whether it's needed or not--or can even be achieved by someone like him. In my case, it wasn't needed and it certainly wasn't achieved. Thousands wasted. Weeks of pain. I'll never get back the tooth structure he needlessly drilled away. And on top of that (literally) is an incredibly ill-fitting, huge crown that popped off my teeth *twice* in 6 weeks. My current dentist told me it looks like a temporary crown. Insane. What's worse is that he wasn't even honest. When I went back to him to fix his mess (speaking of insanity...), he made up crap about how the cement he used to put my crowns on originally was subpar and he got new stuff now (as he was putting it on again for the *third* time). I should have made him prove it, but I'm sure he would've just bs'd his way through that, as well. In reality, he actually did my second crown to a moderately acceptable standard--it never fell out *twice*, at least--and for that he used the same "poor" adhesive, how coincidental! Further, when I stated said fact, he just shrugged and sat speechless. Guess even the best liars get stumped sometimes... When I complained of the crown's ill fit, he tried to tell me that my original molar he had diligently drilled away was shaped exactly the same as his hunchback of a crown, as if I didn't know my own mouth that I'd been living with for decades. The crown sticks out so far into my tongue I swear I can hear Simba roaring away on Pride Rock right through my jaw. I'm beginning to look back on my experience and wonder if I didn't accidentally buy a 2000 dollar ticket to a freaking circus full of clowns. That would have been money much better spent, really. Unless you're a devoted masochist, avoid this place at any cost. read more

I have been going to Today's Dentistry under Dr. Maya's care for 10 years so I was very sad when he retired. I feels since his leaving, Today's Dentistry has gone down hill. The staff is not as friendly and the office itself feels more like a large, impersonal clinic versus a friendly neighborhood dentist as it used to. The front desk staff used to be much more friendly than they were and used to listen to you. Now I feel like they look for things to to do to charge you extra. I am now searching for a new dentist. read more

I went to this dentist office to do my annual check up and they found that I need a filling. A new dentist Dr. Jamil fixed my tooth but after 5 days I felt a lot of pain and I went back to the dentist office. She looked at my tooth and told me that she can pull out my tooth or do a root canal. Obviously I said no I don't want to have my tooth removed. Since, she is a not an Endodontics. I went to an Endodontics to do my root canal and he told me that the tooth that Dr. Jamil wanted to fix was not the tooth that was causing the pain and needed the root canal. Dr. Jamil wanted to do a root canal in the wrong tooth. This situation is really bad because if I didn't go to the Endodontics office, I would have two root canals and obviously this is very expensive and painful. My dental health was in risk. Be careful when you get treatment from this dentist. read more

In Search of Quality Dental Care . . . We moved to Temple Terrace last March from Napa, Ca., and dreaded searching for doctors and dentists .... having said that, after some internet search/review we found that Today's Dentistry appeared to be one of integrity and professionalism. We made an appointment and was very impressed with the office, staff, and the professional manner in which our care was addressed. We returned today for a cleaning and once again was impressed with the personal care provided by Margarita, dental hygienist. And, not to forget the administrative staff who provided us with financial information as well as local shopping recommendations. We were provided with the cost accounting of both the care provided as well as cost for recommended future care. As a side note, the cost appeared to be in line with several other offices. I have a followup appointment for a crown next week and look forward to continued quality care from Dr. Maya and his staff . . . Was not over priced, looked over and shopped around more than 10 officers in Tampa, and they had the most reasonable prices. This place tried to scam me. I was new to the area and wanted to get established with a dentist, so I tried Today's Dentistry. I have had one cavity in my entire life, but when I went in Dr. Maya said that I needed 9 fillings and a periodontal cleaning and all of this totaled up to close to $1,000 out of pocket, and this is with my dental insurance! I went somewhere else for a second opinion, and the dentist told me that they must have been trying to rip me off because there were only 3 teeth that needed fillings, and a periodontal cleaning was not necessary. To top it off, the ladies from the office called me several times after that and it seemed like they were trying to guilt me into coming back in because they were so "worried" about my oral health, and that they would be willing to put me on a payment plan, etc. The next time I was back home I saw the dentist I have been seeing my whole life and he too said that they must have been trying to scam me. I came to Today's Dentistry needing extensive work. Dr. Maya and his team were extremely helpful and treated me with the upmost respect. I have had many experiences with other dentists, and none of them seemed as knowledgable as Dr. Maya. He takes pride in his work and his patients health. He is extremely thorough, and treats every case seriously. Most dentists now belong to a chain, and there are very few independent dentists left.
