We lived in Queens but we would make the one hour trip to Long Island for our dental visits. Impractical, but worth it. LOCATION- Building is right by the highway; parking is plentiful; and during long waits, one can go shopping in nearby commercial areas. Lots of places to eat, too, in case your appointment falls around lunchtime. OFFICE ATMOSPHERE- The dental office isn't too fancy nor intimidating. It's just a neat, normal-looking office. The waiting room has a t.v. and an aquarium with live fish resembling characters from Disney's Finding Nemo. It's also clean and quiet. STAFF- We had a pleasant experience with the staff who worked on us. They were always friendly to us and made small, meaningful talks. And, during our weekly visits, we had to bring our daughter, who was only a year old at that time. Never did we feel any bad vibes about bringing our child to our appointments. In fact, some of the staff would play with our daughter when they weren't too busy. Also, the hygienists are quite good in what they do. I appreciated them more since the hygienist in our new town, I think, has heavy hands. DENTIST- We are glad to have come across Dr. Calvet. She is very motherly but professional. I think she has the knack of making her patients feel comfortable with her so that they can trust her. After all, dental visits are very, very intimate. She explains what she is doing or what she plans to do. My husband has very bad dental hygiene but she doesn't scold or embarrass him for that. We stopped going to her office when we moved Upstate but we have to say, she did a good job with our teeth. Our new dentist was amazed when he saw the work on our teeth. He had only compliments for them.

She…read moreput me on hold which, I understand but after hearing no music or talking from the office after 6 mins, I said hello to see if we were still connected and that when she Yelled into the phone " You're not the only patient " I informed her not to speak to me in that manner she then said " Do you want to make an appointment or what" my response was that was my only reason for calling. My family and I have been patients with Dr Jay for over 15 yrs, when he was in the Coram office but since moving to this location in Central Islip the professionalism regarding the receptionist has tumbled for the worst. I had received approval for work to be done so when, I received notification from my insurance company that it was approved,I called and spoke to the receptionist who said the person who was familiar with my chart wasn't in the office. I called the office as a follow-up and the person " familiar" with my chart said she forgot to call me and she's been going thru a lot with her father being in the hospital. I give Dr. Jay and A+ and his from office a F -

"Meh. I've experienced better" is exactly right…read more The women at the front desk were very nice and helpful. This review is solely on the actual appointment I had and the experience. To cut a long story short (I like to say that, but that never actually happens) I was going to a GREAT dentist, but switched over because they didn't accept my new insurance. Googled a few places and came across this one, I didn't really do much research, it was one of the first options that popped up. Day of my appointment, I thought I was coming in for a cleaning, well - turns out it was just x-rays. Okay, cool. I sat in the chair, dentist comes, says hello and does the x-rays. I ask him a few questions and he's mumbling. I couldn't hear him, and he repeated what he said, but again - so low and mumbled. He kept saying "they'll tell you at the front desk" and that was it, walked out. I don't know about you, but I like my dentist to be friendly, tell me whats going on in my mouth, what I need, etc. Nope - he cut it real short. Barely said 5 words to me. The front desk tried to squeeze me in, but they're so booked - i was looking at a month out just for a cleaning! I then decided to check yelp reviews, and a family member laughed when I told them I came here, they said "didn't you check the reviews? I hope you're just passing by it & not getting any work done" Lucky for me, my old, favorite dentist - now takes my insurance. So I switched back over!
