Terrible service. Mechanics who don't know anything. Wouldn't recommend to anyone. Some of the rudest people ever.

Generally speaking, I'm an informed consumer, who usually does his research, checks reviews, googles businesses, owners etc., before spending my coin. But southern classic automotive a caught me at an interesting time in my life. Like most stories worth reading, this is, at its heart, a love story. It's starts like many others. Once upon a time, I met a car. I'd known many like it before, 4 to be exact; but this one was special. If you've ever been unfortunate enough to fall in love with a 20+ year old piece of the American dream, specifically one powered by the beautiful but inherently flawed aluminum block Northstar engine used by Cadillac from around '93-'02, you'll find the plot familiar. With just 92k miles and a still sparkling showroom paint job, it spontaneously overheated on me one afternoon while errand running. Within days my worst fears were confirmed. The head gasket was failing. For most Cadillacs, blown gaskets are the end of the line. It's the sword of Damocles hanging above the head of every 90's caddy lover. Thanks to the aluminum block, the gaskets can't just be changed, the bolts need to be replaced with better versions and special inserts to prevent it from happening again. It's not a small job. I knew this going in. So I tried to make my peace with it. I drove it to work and back for a month or two, saying my goodbyes, looking for a replacement. But nothing compared to what I had. I called shop after shop. No one wanted the job. A replacement motor would cost me almost as much as another car would, and I'd still have that sword hanging over my head. I was inches away from just giving up my dream of American luxury and buying a Mercury Montego. Desperate isn't the word. And then, in my darkest hour, I did one more random Yelp search. 3 shops came up. One said it was too big a job. Another didn't respond at all. The third was southern classic automotive. From the start Brandt set my mind at ease with timely responses and answers for my many questions. And most importantly perhaps, he was willing to take on the job. Although I live in New Orleans, and I'd never set foot in lulling, or laid an eye on his shop, based solely on our message interactions and phone calls I decided to give them a try. All I had to lose was my dream car after all. Lucky for me, my trust was well placed. Brandt took care of everything for me. He scheduled a tow truck to come pick it up from my house, stayed in contact and sent pictures throughout the process, and completed the job well within the price estimate I was given. Yeah it took an extra day or two, but honestly anyone who's ever held any kind of wrench knows that's the nature of the beast, and there's always gonna be a few wrinkles to iron out. The guys at the shop addressed all my concerns however, and honestly I couldn't have felt more taken care of. Little things, like changing my hoses and replacing the factory squeeze type clamps that are a royal PITA to remove with screw type clamps, go a very long way with me. Some might assume these kind of things are standard, but trust me, I've used enough shops to know they are in fact not. Will likely be using them in the near future for a few others things and will update on those services as necessary. But as far as head gasket repair on a Northstar motor goes? Look no further Cadillac Lovers. You've probably just found your happily ever after. To be continued....
