Last December I decided to (finally) get some artwork framed so I checked out Toco Hills. They have a huge collection of frames, matting, and fillets so it took me a while to decide on everything but they were patient and let me mull over my options while also providing some suggestions and recommendations. After deciding I went ahead and paid in full. They do allow you to pay a deposit instead. At the time of my order I was told one of the frames I selected was out of stock. It was coming from a manufacturer in Italy and they didn't have an ETA for when it would be back in stock but they guessed it could be 1-2 months. I had painstakingly lol gone through their collection so I decided to wait because I wasn't in a rush to get them. March came though and I hadn't heard anything so I called for an update. It would have been nice if they had reached out to me when they realized it was past the two month mark. I understand it feels uneventful to provide a "there's no update" update but I like being kept in the loop regardless of what the status is. After that call, they were more proactive in reaching out to me to let me know they were still waiting for it to arrive which I appreciated. When the frame finally arrived, I was really pleased with how both of my pieces came out. Their prices are expensive but it's a local, specialty shop and you only get things framed once so you may as well invest in something you'll like. I had two pieces of fine art framed here recently and I could not be more pleased with the expert design help I received, the reasonable wait for the finished product (10 days when 14 was quoted), the overall value for the price, and the beautiful, high quality result. Best compliment I can give is that the artist himself was pleased when he saw the choices I had made for his work with the terrific help of the shop. The past 2 weeks I've been hunting for a Frame shop to use to frame my newspapers. I rarely frame anything because I've always thought it was a waste of money... till this year. Why? My alma mater has been doing well in Football. Gotta frame those amazing moments. #History! Note: if you by chance go to THPF's old building, don't panic. Take a left out of parking lot -- maybe pass 2 street lights (the last street light is called something Creek) and slow down. You'll see their building on the left. Be sure to pass Book Nook on your right when you go down the hill driving wise. Parking - A small lot but every time I've come by, no car is there. I don't think they get super crowded because most folks who walk in probably know what they want. I also came at an off time. I shopped at 5! different framing shops. I chose THPF because: 1. I'm a fan of independent shops that don't charge an arm and leg for framing and etc 2. I had Mimi & Rachel &.. an older man help me at different times and they are funny as hell, hahaha. (I walked in 2 different times before committing) 3. They will ask you ALL types of questions regarding your frames... you won't feel jilted when you leave. I'd just do basic research or at least visit another frame shop to gather some knowledge so you KNOW what you want. 4. They have an ADORABLE black puppy downstairs who is extremely obedient with commands/knows not to bark at customers. 5. Finished my frames at a good timeline. You'll hang the frames by a wire. 6. They know you who are after 1 "consulting/what should I do" talk w/ them. 7. They give you complimentary nail hangers. Awesome! So yeah- try these people out. :D You'll get bonus points (as in they will love you instantly) if you bring in baked goods, lol. read more

I needed a wire strung across the back of an old picture frame so that I could hang it on the wall. The proprietor took the frame and went into the basement, and in five minutes he returned with a wire running across the back of the frame and connected on both sides by metal screws. It was a very nice job. Then he and I stood there awkwardly because I was waiting for him to give me an invoice, but he just stood there. So I said, "How much do I owe you?" and he said, "Nothing". Can you believe that? Such a great guy. And the work was equally great. I can't promise he'll charge you nothing, but he's definitely not out to screw you. Rachel2 (there are two Rachels working here) helped me find the best frame ever for my new art! I told myself to go into the shop without any ideas or preconceived notions about what I was looking for and I wasn't wrong. Rachel2 pulled a bunch of frames and many of them looked pretty good with the art, but then she absolutely nailed it by finding a frame that had a spacey feeling which absolutely matched the art. She pulled frames that I would have passed over and they looked great. I'm glad I let her do the "driving" and just sat back and enjoyed from the passenger's seat! I'm not sure when my next framing need will be but I can tell you that there is no question where I will be going. Toco Framing is the best framing store we have ever used. Geoff is super patient and a genuine craftsman. Most recently, we were framing an 83 year old college diploma that had tremendous sentimental value and was very fragile (it was in an attic for 45 years). Geoff and his team did a superb job in handling the document and in framing it. They understood how to best handle old fragile documents and preserve them. Recently I received a painting from my grandmother that my grandfather owned before he passed. They have done work for us ranging from simple diplomas and class photos to more complicated multiple photo groups, vintage 80 year old family photos, and art prints. I collect limited run prints that I have purchased at shows as part of a bands merchandise or from printers like Methane Studios and I have had several items framed at this little shop over the last year or two. They do amazingly clean and consistent work at this little shop, have been very professional and courteous, and very helpful in finding the right looking frame for the prints I've collected. I made the mistake of using another framer last year because it was closer to my home, and recommended by a friend, and after picking up my print, was I not satisfied with the final product, enough to never go back. Even though Toco Hills Framer's pricing is very fair, price was of no consequence to me, as I believe value is a perception strictly for the purchaser, I have always pleased with the final cost of any of the items I have had framed.
