This place has potential, came here with friends one very late night a couple hours before closing. It was very dirty and grimy in here, the cliental definitely dwindled in terms of upstanding citizens as the night went on. The bartender seemed very laid back but almost to an unprofessional standpoint when talking to customers. I understand pool halls are known for being dimly lit, people doing there own thing while surrounded by other pool players etc... but the owners here have just stopped caring its very evident. Bar rescue status... What this place has is location, that's about it... The bartender was sweet though and explained how the pool pricing system worked and their drink specials but thats where the positive aspects ended. For Instance... Like other reviewers have noticed, Toby's is smokey, dirty, and the hard alcohol choices are beyond poor. Bartender didnt even know the brands, just called everything, "well brand", whatever that means haha. We had a shot of, "well brand whiskey", stupid I know lol. This was NOT whiskey and we regretted it immediately (tasted like soju and iced tea mixed with a hint of fermented redbull, I kid you not... but much worse). ... I wouldnt give it away to a homeless guy. It made us sick nice and quick. It would probably clean bathroom tiles decently though (if anyone ever cleaned). You MUST stick to beer here if you come, trust me on that! I suggest bottled beer to be safe. The pool balls and cues are all cheap and chipped. The place is really dirty. There are random tables, chairs, old free bar swag decor and wires throughout the establishment. There is no real ventilation for smoking and ash trays are dirty. etc etc etc ... Imagine your stereotypical gross 80's movie set, it's the loser uncle's basement who peaked in high school and gave up. lol but this time without the cool song and montage of cleaning up and becoming successful again... This place needs $15K, a mop, some bleach and a basic makeover yesterday. I think the most disappointing part was while the digital juke box was thankfully playing decent music that customers were buying and choosing consistently... two patrons turned on a PS4 near the middle of the bar and started playing FIFA (soccer style game) so the audio was now broadcasted over the entire place. Im talking the background music/FX of the video game and nothing else. I saw the bartender get up and walk over to the two guys and I thought to myself, "Oh good she'll tell them put the music back on...". I mean it's a bar and not a high school sleep over... BUT NO, lol, she sat down, smoked and watched. Leaving the bar unattended and all of us to enjoy the fake cheers and kicking sounds of some good ol' video games. We played one game of pool and left. I could go on with all this nonsense... but you get it. If I want to feel like im in the 7th grade and in a dirty 1980's basement, ill rent The Goonies. Not coming back. I believe smoking is no longer allowed indoors, but man, the smokiness of a thousand other nights of pool and beer lingers in this hall... so if you're someone with smoke (or residual smoke) allergies, this may not be the place for you. Tables are rented by the hour and per person at a table. When we visited the place was empty (it was around 8:30pm on a Weds. night the day after X'mas) but I was assured by the locals that people would show up much later. The new management sucks. For starters my friends and I have been coming here for a year and it was amazing until about two weeks ago when the management changed. The customer service here is horrible and unprofessional. The new lady who's running the place now is rude and does NOT know how to run a business. She closes the place early most nights even though its supposed to be open till 2am. She is constantly in arguments with customers. Not once did I come in here and she wasn't being disrespectful to a customer. She also talks bad about the previous manager, Brandy, to my friends and I completely unprovoked. Brandy was very welcoming and kind. The owners made a HORRIBLE decision when they replaced her with this lady. there's about 2 other places to play pool on the same block.. i would go to 1 of those instead of this place. Toby's was a great place I used to be a very loyal customer. Me and my friends would come and have a great time and it was always packed and bumping!!!! But since brandy left it's been horrible. The new lady is a bitch. Doesn't know how to treat customers I come in vaping and she comes over and screams at me instead of treating me like a customer and telling me not to nicely. Ever since she's been here it's been horrible and less packed. I won't be coming to Toby's anymore and spending my money with them. To bad they lost CUSTOMERS that would spend $50 a night 4 times a week!!! I do not recommend Toby's!!! It's not the same I don't feel welcomed anymore. Great local billiard place to take your friends. Nice staff and great selection of beers. The place is little smoky so be prepared to inhale some cigarettes into your lungs and have it all on your clothes. My advice is to go there when it's empty. Sunday nights, Monday nights... We had a couple of beers..we were not too sure of the place as there was a super drunk guy going around the place speaking to everybody. The Irish man at the counter ended up asking us to leave because he did not get a tip from one of the people in our group. I told him we had paid for the beers and we were not leaving until we finished them. He did not say much until we were picking up to leave..he shouted very racist names at us... Only one bar but it's not bad at all we had a male bartender with Gage's he was super friendly and would walk around to make sure that we didn't need drinks and when we did he would refill them for us.
