We didn't have to wait in a queue or anything to pay, but the restaurant was fairly busy both times we went. The staff were friendly and polite. The first time I came here, I tried to pay with my American bank card (which has usually worked fine abroad), but they weren't able to accept it and I had to go to a nearby ATM. The staff were patient and apologetic about it, however. The restaurant is a lot bigger than it looks on the outside. The placemat has a map, which is pretty amusing but not super necessary to study. It's easy to just go around the stations. The farthest stations from the main seating area are the Italian, Mediterranean, and Brazilian stations; both times we went, the seating around that area was empty--probably they just try to seat everyone in the same area to make it easier to clean up. There were pizzas, paella, salads, and pastas in the Italian and Mediterranean area, and also a server who walked around with Brazilian meat on a stake. In addition, there was a variety of Asian stations, including sushi, Chinese food, dim sum, a Thai curries/soups/stir-fry, and Indian food. The starters section was mostly fried food like fries, mini samosas, and spring rolls. There was a huge selection of desserts, including mini mousses, ice cream, and an Eton mess, among others. There's a chocolate fountain, but I didn't find there was that much to dip in the chocolate. There was an okay selection of fruit, but nothing overly fresh or impressive. The drinks area included complimentary soda, water, fruit juice, and coffee. There's definitely a wide selection, and for less than £20 a head, it's a pretty good deal if you're hungry. None of the food is of particularly impressive quality, but it's all pretty tasty and it's a good choice if you're with a group of people with different tastes. Some of the dishes/plates didn't look completely clean, but that was fairly rare. The servers were usually quick about clearing the old plates off the table.

Luckily…read morefor Croxley patrons and beyond, it's change of hands to the same chain as The Feathers/Bodegas seems to have stuck... alas it's now more of a restaurant. Gone are the heady days of having a pint of snakes b out front on the actual Green. No, now we sit surrounded by hanging baskets of glorious flowers and upon decking, on posh furniture, under huge canvas umbrellas. The drink prices of course reflect these happy changes and it can feel a tad too pricey at times but hey, the location is great on a balmy Summer's day or indoors by the open fires on a gloomy Winter's one. Came here for the beginnings of my 30th celebrations and hired the side section. Great service, lovely vibe for a pre louder bar venue. Not sure the other diners were impressed with my party poppers or cake sparklers but no one complained. A few of my friends grumbled at bar prices and they come from London, so it is expensive! Food prices are reasonable and everything I've had here has been gorg. I tried the kedgeree last week and it was bliss. Perfect. Staff are really nice and genuinely helpful. Also they now do a variety of puds rather than just waffles which left me and friend/family a bit cold. Been for a few roasts and always good. Book though, gets busy. So yea, it's great, prob better for dins or a quiet drink these days...I came here New Years quite a few years back (pre poshness) and had a dance off with a snooker cue as a prop...can't do that anymore! I'm a lot older now and also it's far too classy in here to be playing Britney and have a snooker table. Thankfully.

This place sounded so good! I found it via Tastecard because they offer (at time of review) a 50%…read morediscount - even for large groups - which is pretty awesome. My beef with this place (excuse the pun) was the terrible service. I had initially booked for 10, but on the day called to see if we could reduce the number and arrive a bit earlier. The man on the phone said it wouldn't be a problem. When we arrived the waiter obviously hadn't been told because he was quite confused how to deal with our smaller group arriving early. I'll point out now that we went on a Sunday night and the place was at about 50% capacity. While we waited for a friend to arrive we decided to get starters and drinks. The bottle of wine arrived open, which is not ideal but not a major issue. The starters/sides were quite average. We shared them between us but there was no offer of plates so sharing them got messy very quickly. After we'd finished our starters the waiter asks if we could order our mains. We asked for a few minutes to check on our friend because she was due to arrive any minute, but just a minute later he's asking again because of something to do with how the kitchen organises itself. Remember, it's a Sunday and they were not busy. Thankfully my friend walked through the door at that precise moment. The saving grace of this restaurant is the wide selection of exotic meats. There are the safe options of beef and chicken or you can try wild boar, water buffalo, springbok, crocodile and more. My late friend quickly chose but at this point the waiter had almost lost attention and it was quite difficult to get him to come over (not for the first time). All mains come on a hot stone with chips and salad. The plates are very big and because he'd put 5 on us on a table for 4 we did struggle to fit them on. I like the idea of the hot stone but it is a low-effort meal for the kitchen who only need to cook chips and heat the stone. For this reason I cannot fathom why the waiter was pressuring us into ordering our mains befroe our final diner had arrived. On the plus side, my water buffalo was good, but since I was the one cooking it I'm not sure how much credit they deserve. The Tastecard discount made it worthwhile, however, everything but the meat was average at best and the service was appalling.
