I've visited Olchfa House Toby Carvery at Killay on a number of occasions, most recently this evening for a Christmas meal. This is one of a chain and is a reasonable choice for a carvery meal. Good value with a large variety of choice of vegetables, all reasonably cooked but perhaps lacking a little individuality. Brussel sprouts would have benefited by some chestnuts or butter and pepper seasoning etc. The meats are well cooked, a little bit on the dry side perhaps when the restaurant is less busy, downside of a carvery really. For this time of year there is a Christmas menu with a set three course for £12.95, as well as the standard carvery menu as well as a few other non carvery items. The starters on the Christmas were a little disappointing with a very ordinary pate and slightly pitiful prawn cocktail, on the plus side a decent Christmas pudding and nice ice cream brownie sundae style dessert ended the meal well.
If you're looking for good value, they run a £5 carvery option which for an extra £1 can give you a small choice of starter or dessert. There is no limit on helping yourself to vegetables and yorkshires so this is a place for quantity if you just need a good fill!
Service was very good this evening with our waitress managing our table of 9 with good humour and patience! At times the service can be a little lack lustre. read more
