Have some friends who live locally to this Toby Carvery and they enjoy visiting it regularly.
Have been there twice, and at very different times of day and the results could not have been more pronounced.
The first time, was quite good - considering the price the food is not bad quality and the vegetables and potatoes were all fresh and tasty, the meats, especially the beef was quite nice too.
The second visit was at around 9pm one evening. There was no-one serving on the carvery, even after waiting for 10 minutes and asking two of the waiting staff to chase the kitchen up.
The vegetables looked as if they had been there for the whole evening, the broccoli was brown and looking very sorry for itself, there were no roast potatoes and the meats looked terrible too.
The staff were not terribly receptive at first, one assumes that as it was slightly later in the evening they did not have any fresh items on the way out.
However after a little sensible discussion with the restaurant manager new items did finally make their way out and the quality was quite acceptable.
Had the manager taken the same stance as the person serving, which was to offer the shrivelled up items available, then I would have given a 1 out of 5, but since they dealt the with problem reasonably quickly and effectively I'll mark them up to 2, although perhaps 2.5 would be fairer.
But really the food should not have been in that state in the first place. read more
