Now, just for context, I go out of my way to highlight when I have a good customer interaction. So for me to go on the Internet and complain is outside of my character. Unfortunately, my interactions with Nathan have been a very different experience. Today I called at exactly 4:30 p.m. to order my usual salmon toast. I live less than five minutes away, and the business's online hours say it closes at 5:00. Nathan told me, "You should've called sooner," then said I could neither place a phone order nor come in to order because they were getting ready to close. When I asked for clarification about the posted hours, he abruptly repeated, "No, we're getting ready to close." If the kitchen stops taking orders before 5:00, that should be made clear to customers. But the cutoff is only part of my concern. Nathan's condescending tone and dismissive response were unnecessary. This was not my first unpleasant interaction with him, and it's disappointing to receive that kind of service at a place my family otherwise enjoys. Even when I asked kindly if I could come in to order rather than over the phone that was an issue. I politely asked for his name and his response was " What do you need it for" Jay has built a welcoming business; Nathan's customer service and level of professionalism fall far short of the standard Toastique sets as a standard. Jay I truly hope your team actually reads this review. I also hope that he gave me the right name. You can clearly look at Wednesday, September 23 and see who worked at this time. If my perception of this business was solely based on Nathan, I would never come back. My review is solely based on the experience with this guy specifically, this has no bearing on the food or the owner at all. I finally tried Toastique in Ladera Ranch and it's officially my new healthy obsession. The space feels so clean and calm the second you walk in. I visited today for the first time with two friends. My three-cheese Italian toast was good, but it took forever to receive my order. It was not busy at all, yet my friend got her order right away. They were also not serving coffee because the machine was broken, they could not do a bowl, and when I told them I did not want jalapeño cheese toast, the girl taking my order said, "Oh good, because we are out of that, too." The fig toast was the standout for me since its not super common but def super fresh, balanced, and just one of those items you keep thinking about after. Everything here feels really intentional and beautifully made. The OC used to lead the way with places like this, and somewhere along the line we settled for mediocrity dressed up as "trendy."
