Matcha bowl
Aki S.

This shop has good atmosphere and clean, warm and friendly people are working very well. I was in there in the early morning and ordered matcha bowl and caffeine free coffee. Tasty amazing you can feel good matcha flavor and see great balboa's vibes from the window while your break. I'll be differently back there! Thank you for making my day.

What a cute cafe on Balboa Island! Boyfriend and I visited while just walking around and saw that the other coffee shop across the street was too crowded. I am very happy to have found this one because they offer smoothies which are sooo good. Really healthy too! Limited seating inside, but to be honest you're going to be walking around if you're at Balboa. Definitely should check it out if you're in the area.

What I ordered.

Crazy bad service at this location. First, we walked in and were the only people in the store. The young woman working the front completely ignored us until my wife asked loudly if we could order. The worker then walked to the register. I saw the speciality drink "Seafoam Latte" and thought it looked cool, so I ordered it. I even pointed to the picture. What I got vs what it should have looked like were 180 (see photos). Presentation counts and this definitely did not score. I think the counter person would rather have been elsewhere. I watched her when the next couple of people ordered and all she could do was look out the window rather than pay much attention to what the people were saying. On top of that. The drink was really overly sweet and I could not taste much coffee at all.

Love their idea! Great juice, great food, fantastic location! Very fresh and colorful! Looking for a healthy options in Balboa? This is your place! They have mix of immunity, defense, recharging and refreshing mixes!

Two Avocado Smash Toast's and the Purple Heart Smoothie.

Fantastic morning visit to Toastique on Balboa Island this morning. The ambience was a nice fresh transition from the old Starbucks that was in this location before. The service was excellent with polite and friendly staff who helped to change the toast options we wanted for our Avocado Smash's (to gluten free and sourdough). They helped us order a side of fruit and nondairy milk to accommodate food allergies too. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. You can tell they take pride in the experience and quality of food and drinks they serve. Even the bathroom was clean and refreshed before and during our visit. Fantastic visit that we look to repeat again soon. Five stars all around.

Smoked Salmon Toast! Yummy and beautiful!

5 Stars for my delicious Smoked Salmon toast! It was beautiful and delicious! Food is expensive these days (I spent about $20+) but getting something quality, beautifully presented, and different than I could/would make at home makes it worth it to me. Also, they serve Art of Tea (I love their green "Happy" tea) so that was a bonus for me! My friends had peanut butter açaí type bowls that they really enjoyed. They have a variety of unique drinks that I didn't try, but looked fun. This place is located on Balboa Island. The staff seemed a little stressed with the morning crowd, but everyone was friendly. There are a few tables inside and a couple little ones outside, but not a lot. The place is cute and clean. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed it!

friendly helpful staff, tasty healthy smoothies and juices and delicious toasts and acai bowls all made to order results in a great review from us! we loved the green smoothies and avocado toasts and acai bowls. they accept call orders ahead of time and curbside running in to pick up and pay helps as parking in the area although with a nice 2 hrs limit can be scarce! great place for light breakfast, midday lunch or any minute smoothies and acai on the go! will be back soon after another visit to the library to study

Food was great Service was good Ambiance is modern and clean .Must stop and grab a bite

Toastique on Balboa Avenue is an absolute gem and easily one of my new favorite spots for a fresh, feel good meal. From the moment I walked in, the space felt clean, modern, and welcoming. I ordered the Superfruit Smoothie, and it was incredibly refreshing and well balanced. Made with açaí, strawberry, banana, blueberry, and cold-pressed apple juice, it tasted vibrant and naturally sweet without being overpowering. You can tell the ingredients are high quality and thoughtfully blended it's the kind of smoothie that actually makes you feel energized rather than weighed down. I also ordered the smoked salmon toast, and wow it was packed with flavor and beautifully put together. The smoked pastrami salmon paired perfectly with the herbed cream cheese spread, while the arugula, cucumber, pickled onions, and capers added the perfect mix of freshness and tang. The toasty seasoning, microgreens, and lemon twist tied everything together, all served on perfectly toasted sourdough bread. Bonus points for offering a gluten free option, which makes this spot even more inclusive for those with dietary restrictions. What truly elevated the experience was the amazing service from Ria. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely made me feel welcome, which goes a long way. Definitely recommend.

bottom of burnt bread

Ordered Avocado toast it took about 25 minutes for staff to make it, everyone who ordered after us were already gone. When given our toast we saw the whole toast was burnt, the components brought great flavor but after taking so long to get our food the burnt rush feeling was very disappointing. (especially when we made the trip to come down through traffic for toastique food!)

Smoked salmon, three cheese, Italian, and PB&J! The one that's not photographed is the tomato, Burrata and prosciutto

I'm visiting CA this week & was SO HAPPY to see Toastique on Balboa Island. We have one in CO & we absolutely love it. The food is always fresh, colorful and insanely delicious! My favorite toast is the tomato, Burrata (adding prosciutto) - Although every toast really is absolutely delightful ! We were greeted and served by a lady named Rhea! She was so kind, so professional and so perfect for our visit. That, with the simple and quaint ambience made for such a perfect stop. Certainly coming back when we visit!!

Greek toast, hummus base, kalamata Greek olives, tomatoes, cucumber and arugula. Great for a quick breakfast.

Quick service. Good for a fast breakfast, very clean aesthetic. Glad I stumbled upon this spot

Great food! Service was a bit slow but it's understandable since it's only one or two people prepping orders.

Decided to drive down to Newport for the day, wound up browsing the shops at Fashion Island, and…read morethen wound up having lunch at Great Maple, one of the better, sit-down restaurants at the center. It's a bright and airy venue, with thick, clubby stools at the bar and a dual, indoor/outdoor dining area that's just right for the coastal California locale. We arrived near the end of the lunch rush, so we were quickly seated by the friendly Hostess, though there were still plenty of folks eating, and a lively buzz was still thrumming through the room. It was just the right energy for a Saturday lunch. Our server, Darren, was a hoot, with a slight shimmy to his step and personality for days -- sometimes that can be a bit much, but in this case his charisma added a much appreciated charm to the meal. While we didn't imbibe at this sitting, they do have a full bar with a nice selection of cocktails suitable for brunch or dinner, and it's easy to imagine whiling away quite a few hours here at another opportunity. The menu offers a number of clever twists on brunch and lunch mainstays, especially house-made doughnuts and a few Benedicts that push all the buttons of "well, this is something appealingly different." That said, we were just tad boring today as diners, ordering a Burger and the house BLT. We may have made some ordinary-sounding decisions, but Great Maple's versions of these favorites were far from ordinary at all. The burger is made with high quality beef that has just the right amount of fat to make it juicy while retaining the integrity of the flavor of the meat. Cheese, veggies and a fresh brioche bun rounded out the presentation, as did a perfectly achieved pink medium rare. This was a very good, very satisfying burger served with crispy, shoestring fries that really hit the spot. The BLT is built on Levain sourdough that is thick-cut and lightly toasted, and holds up nicely against the moisture in the tomatoes and bright, leafy lettuce. Aioli had a noticeable but mild, and very enjoyable, garlic accent that played really well with everything, walking the line between "spread" and "dressing," and becoming a meaningful component of the sandwich rather than being just an adornment. But the star of the sandwich was the smoky bacon, cut thick enough to retain a pleasing chew while also boasting the kind of char and crisp that make for the most enjoyable bacon on a sandwich. Really, this was a terrific BLT, far above what you normally get, and, as I said before, not anywhere near as ordinary as you may think. So, a very good lunch at Great Maple, and very good reason to plan another visit very soon. Kudos to everyone.

Most of the food was really good, but there were a couple of misses as well. What we ordered: + Fried Chicken and Doughnuts - I was really excited to try their famous maple bacon donuts, but they were surprisingly bad. These donuts were dense, like day-old bread. It has good reviews, so maybe I'm just partial to light, airy donuts. The fried chicken was good though. + Ribeye Hash - hubby ordered this and really enjoyed it. It was huge. + Kids Pancakes with scrambled eggs - we were surprised our little one didn't like the pancakes (which he usually loves), but after we tasted it, we understood why. It had a weird sour after-taste. I've had buttermilk pancakes before, and they never tasted sour. Also, the texture was not fluffy, but kinda flat, and the color was very light. Maybe it wasn't fully cooked (see photo). However, he devoured the scrambled eggs, which he usually doesn't touch. + Chilaquiles - very good. It was a tower. + Modern American Breakfast - pretty good. The vegan avocado toast was average. Overall, this is a nice brunch place with some good options. Other than the donuts and pancakes, the rest of the food was really good.

My friends and I, all law students, recently chose Balboa Lily's outdoor seating as our spot to study ahead of finals, and we never felt rushed or pressured to leave. We lingered over our meals, kept the coffee orders coming, and had a genuinely lovely afternoon. Despite being situated on a corner next to two streets, the outdoor seating never felt particularly busy or loud. It struck a great balance between having some energy around you while still being comfortable enough to sit, study, and enjoy a long coffee. Definitely a spot I'll continue coming back to for brunch, coffee, and a good place to settle in for a few hours.

Located in a strip mall with plenty of parking, they are open from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. every day for breakfast and lunch. We came on a Sunday morning and were seated right away. The menu offers plenty of tasty options. It was tough to decide. I ordered the Crab Benny and had my eggs soft-poached, as requested, and they were perfectly runny. The croissant was a nice change from the usual English muffin. The herb-seasoned wedge fries were also great and crispy. The Brown Butter Hollandaise sauce was creamy and flavorful. My family also enjoyed the tomato bagel and the kids' pancake. They cleaned their plate in no time. The portions were good for the price and quality. Our morning hunger was satisfied. If you are inclined to enjoy an alcoholic beverage with your meal, the menu offers some great options like brunch cocktails, mimosas, wine, and more. I'll have to try one of their house cocktails sometime. I opted to get a refreshing cold brew this time. Upon entering the dining area, I was struck by its bright, modern look and local vibes. There is also patio seating, perfect for the SoCal weather. The staff was kind and attentive. It was cool that they refer to customers as "family" when greeting them before taking orders. Made reservations through the open table app. It was on a Friday afternoon with the weather being nice and sunny so thought it would be nice to sit on the patio. Upon checking in with the hostess, was greeted by a very not so friendly hostess. Upon me asking if the patio is available, she said "only inside is available"..... No sorry no smile no nothing...... Excuse me for bringing this up, but if you Miss Hostess does not want to work, nobody forced you to do so...... God!!!! Upon sitting down, the inside temperature was freezing. Felt like just stepped into a fridge or something. Anyways, ordered a hamburger (WELL DONE) and a chopped salad. The chopped salad was delicious! The hamburger was RAW inside. The side of fries had the weirdest taste. The waitress was nice and apologized. I asked for the manager because he needs to know the issue and try to fix it so it doesn't happen again. When the manager came to the table, he started lectureing me that this is not raw and it is just medium well. Ummmm..... First of all Mr. Manager, your opinion does not matter, second of all, I asked for Well Done, regardless of what it is....... GOD!!!! He said if I want a replacement, I said nope, thanks. He took it off the bill and whatever the amount of the dish was, I added as a tip for the waitress. Because it is not her fault that the chef doesn't know how to cook or the manager doesn't have the skills to be a manager. So I am leaving this review for the General manager that you have some serious improvements to make to this restaurant. The bathroom smells horrible. The faucets are broken and disgustingly dirty and your food is not even edible...... I would not be surprised that this place closes down soon. So get to work and take care of your business before it is too late!!!!
