    Halo halo
    Angela K.

First time trying Filipino food, and it was so good!! I didn't even know this place existed until I saw an instagram reel. I've been inside of this HEB before, but I never noticed the restaurant, probably because the times that I went it was already closed since it was late at night. There wasn't really a menu, so I just went with the classics - chicken adobo and chicken lumpia. The chicken was super flavorful and tender. The chicken lumpia was so crunchy and delicious. It comes with a dipping sauce. Once I got to the bottom of the styrofoam box though, I realized some of the styrofoam had melted, most likely because they had freshly fried the rolls and placed it into the box, so it was piping hot. As I was waiting for my chicken lumpia to come out, I noticed that people usually just order the combo meal which is 2 entrees with a side of rice for $10.99. They have a bunch of protein to choose from. I'll definitely try that next time. The halo halo was everything I imagined it to be. It was so creamy and not too overly sweet. It was refreshing! There's a ton of different toppings at the bottom- red bean, flan, fruit jellies, etc. The ube ice cream was great, and it gave the drink the nice purple color. This spot was pretty busy at the hour I went, but the wait time wasn't too bad since I was having a conversation with a friendly customer. I'll be back again!

Located inside of HEB! The food is masarap. Very good food and location. You can grab some grocery and a meal for the day. We stopped in for Brekky after our cruise and really enjoyed it.

Had lunch with a friend who knows Cebu Lechon. It's my first time here, tucked away inside an HEB grocery store. The menu boasts a wide variety of choices, from classic sinigang to comforting tinola. The ambiance isn't fancy, but the servings are generous and the flavors are surprisingly delightful. They also offer whole Lechon for catering, which I've savored at events and parties. Definitely worth a try...

Hidden gem inside HEB! I can't believe it took me this long to try To-Go Cafe, but it was well worth it. They have all day Filipino breakfast plates, and I like the Cornsilog with Garlic Rice and the Bangsilog, so delicious and reminds me of a home cooked meal. They have many lunch plate options and generous portions as well. Try their Lechon or Lechon Kawali which is also seasoned well and crispy. I also really enjoyed the Pan de Ube (sweet Ube filled rolls), they are soft, fluffy, and the creamy Ube filling is yummy and the best I've had in Houston. The customer service is very friendly and quick, and they also have a small dining area for your quick lunch. To-Go cafe is a must stop if you're in the area and wanting Filipino food. You can even make a grocery run afterwards while you're at it!

If you want "To Go" and find some great Filipino food, look no further. Located inside one of the worst H-E-B locations you could ever visit, this is actually a pretty good Filipino food place, in fact it can be amazing, and one which I tend to stop by now and again, usually with my girlfriend. And while it's not some kind of gourmet Filipino restaurant, not that you'd want it to be as these little stands usually have the best food, it definitely has some treats and some interesting homemade snacks that are well worth the try. In fact, all things considered, I would say this is literally the only reason we will ever come inside such a bad grocery store again.

Excellent Filipino food with tons of flavor and a very reasonable price. Don't be swayed because this restaurant is inside HEB, it's well worth the visit. The food was all fresh and very flavorful! Our whole family thoroughly enjoyed our meal and we had leftovers to take home with us! We waited for some fresh lumpia and it was definitely hot & fresh, but a little heavy on the shrimp. It made it a bit fishy. Overall, the food, service and atmosphere were great and we will definitely be back when we are in the area.

    Caldereta and Lechon
    Maria D.

Came here as soon as I got back in town! As usual food is great but the caldereta seemed bland today. It wasn't as flavorful and vibrantly colored as before. I also got tge lechon paksiw and it was awesome! Hubby got the tocilog and he loved it! I will def come back again to see if the old style caldereta comes back

AUTHENTIC!!! Def a good fix for my Filipino food away from my Dad's cooking! Prices are pretty good for the big servings! Plentiful to choose from and ready to eat! Come hungry, leave full!!!

Great filipino food located inside an HEB. Love that they offer Filipino breakfast all day long. The prices are cheap and love the variety they offer. Fast service! Best place to order party trays too.

Been looking for solid Filipino food. This place blows Max's away. I left very satisfied and comforted. This is going to be my go to Filipino spot. Highly recommend.

Mrs and & I finally made it back to this Filipino cafeteria inside the HEB to try some of the steam table offerings. We went with pork sisig (meat from the head including the ears), veggie pancit (clear noodle), and BBQ pork skewers. We shared with our youngest daughter. Everything were seasoned and cooked well. All the proteins were tender. The family believed this shack has the best tasting Filipino steam table foods in Houston. Lots of options were available. Prices were similar to other steam table shacks. Service was friendly and efficient. Youngest daughter wants to try breakfast plates in the future.

That's always the food is always good at this place. you get more for your money when you eat at this place

My BMP calamansi margarita was distinct in its tanginess. Tried the veggie lumpias and brussel sprouts. The lumpias had tangy dipping sauce that might have been dominated by calamansi. More tang than savory. The brussel sprouts were standard but had a good portion. I tried to detect whether they used fish sauce but I couldn't tell. Ordered the daing na bangus (milkfish) as my entree. They gave me the whole fish and it threw me off that it was mostly deboned since I kept looking for the bones with my tongue and teeth. Fish was nice and crispy and the dipping sauce was more savory than what came with the lumpias. The garlic rice that came with the dish was smoky from that wok hay. Probably could have used a little more soy sauce for flavouring. My favourite dish was the turon dessert (fried bananas) along with the ube ice cream. The coconut sauce they used seemed more like caramel. I haven't eaten much Filipino food so I wasn't sure how authentic the dishes were. I was expecting a little more intensity in the flavours, and I don't know if it was toned down for their customers. There were around ten customers that night. The inside was beautiful and they have a two level patio that is perfect for nights like these. The service was very nice and the kitchen was faster than I expected.

Since we were already in the area after breakfast at TJ's Filipino Cuisine, we finally got the chance to stop by and try their baked goods for ourselves. We arrived early, so the bakery wasn't too busy yet. The bakers were busy prepping more goodies in the back while my cousin and I browsed all the Filipino baked goods we really miss from back home in the Philippines. They even had suman, sapin-sapin, biko, and other kakanin, which was nice to see. I specifically looked for the chicken empanada, and my cousin wanted to try the ube white chocolate chip cookie. We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.

I feel it's lazy and unprofessional to order one thing and receive a mixture of others. It's really annoying and irritating to the point I'm not going to eat this. Additionally, it has NO FLAVOR. The meal is real INSIPID. AND they're closing in the next 7 minutes so I can't even return to get my $$ back. The prices are good though. I guess I got what I paid for. I would've appreciated paying $10 for the pancits and Eggrolls to get a delicious, hot and accurately prepared meal. My rating...TRY AT YOUR OWN RISK, I will not be ordering anything else from this place. It's unfortunate because we're big on loyalty to businesses that do us right and we like to spend money. However, first impressions are everything, and unfortunately they did not give us a good impression at all.

My father is Filipino so I was missing Filipino cuisine. This place did not disappoint. It was clean, and staff were very hospitable. We came in extra early as per Mikey's suggestion. So they were still putting out food for the lunch buffet. Although they didn't not have the sisig or my one other favorite, pork sinigang ALL of the other favorite were there to satisfy this Half Filipina

I'm not sure if she still works here, but the place honestly felt different without her welcoming smile and warm reception. We arrived just in time for breakfast (last Saturday) I ordered Bangsilog, while my cousin had the Tocilog. Service was fast as usual. I really enjoyed my Bangsilog--the bangus tasted fresh, perfectly fried, crispy on the outside while still tender and juicy inside. Unfortunately, my cousin's tocino was disappointing. The tocino was tough and tasted like it may have been leftover from previous day and simply reheated. Either that or it has been sitting in the kitchen for quite awhile. We still finished our meals. Because we were starving, but it definitely affected the experience. It also made us miss Hazel's customer service even more because if she had been there, we're pretty sure she would've handled the situation right away. I waited a while before writing this review because I wanted to be as fair as possible. The lady who served us was still very good, although it was obvious that the overall customer service experience was not quite at the same level as when Hazel was around. The biggest issue was really the tocino. Because of that, this latest visit to TJ's wasn't perfect and honestly made us wonder if it's still worth making this one our go-to spot whenever we're in the Houston area.
