It's busy, nerve wracking buuuuut THE NICEST STAFF EVER Security guard taught me how to use the fancy wheelchair. Receptionists don't trip on my nervous ticks and are always smiles and jokes when appropriate and initiated. Doctor Sofi? Listens, responds, knows what's up and super thorough with no judgement. His nurse was so nice too! Blood test? Pffft...in and out quicker than a drive thru with comforting care. The building itself is beautiful, albeit a bit busy (for my anxiety buddies), but I never FEAR coming here because my care is priority and I know the professionals here follow up with appointments, listen to my concerns and the building team takes pride in where we all meet.

Literally coming out in clumps…read more Get told #1 cause is lack of Iron by the Dr. Dr. sees I have some psychiatric diagnosis but "doesn't want to jump to the conclusion" I'm losing hair due to "emotional issues" related to my diagnosis, so orders a blood test. Iron is in normal range but Ferritin and TIBC is NOT. Dr. is clearly not trained in reading blood results and I'm very glad I did my research because my results strongly point to depleted Iron stores, although Dr. thinks my Iron's normal because all she can read is the Iron being in normal range and didn't bother looking at the Ferritin or TIBC. I googled what these even were since they are in BRIGHT RED NUMBERS. So, I get brushed aside as always with Kaiser, told my blood's normal but Iron supplements "can be beneficial" after I bring them up (originally was told to just take B12 vitamins and NOTHING related to Iron was recommended,) made to assume my severe hair loss is due to "emotional issues." Yes, I have emotional issues and always have, so was ready to take stress as the answer... until I researched my own lab results! Please train your doctors in how to properly read blood tests. Literally just research low ferritin/normal Iron/high TIBC and you will QUICKLY SEE why I think my hair loss is due to these results. Of course, no prescription supplements or follow up blood work for me. Also, I work at a shelter. I was wearing my work shirt. The Dr.'s only question after seeing my shirt was how long we give the animals until we "kill" them? Jesus Christ. The wording alone was extremely inappropriate. So, thanks a lot for making someone who's made it their job to try to provide for animals, feel bad for "killing" them. Ignorant all around. Yes, "KILL" was her exact word.

Registration was easy and all information was provided regarding the process. A number is assigned to each patient to track their status. Once it was time to get ready the staff bring you into prepare for the surgery. The family member is then brought back to meet with the patient and the doctor and surgery team to ask any questions. While the surgery is happening the patient's contact person can track the status. Once the surgery is over the doctor contacts them to let them know how the surgery went and pick up any medication at the onsite pharmacy. They are then brought in to the recovery room to receive further instructions and take the patient home. The staff were very friendly and helpful with any questions and the surgeons were very professional and knowledgeable.

I tried to ask questions as he was leaving but he said his nurse would come in and explain more. OK but you are the doctor, what do we do in the meantime??. The nurse came in told us how the referral system worked and to call insurance to speed up referral if needed. The second I started showing symptoms, I went to urgent care so I could get antibiotics before it got worse. They refused to give me antibiotics because they "can't justify it". I left and got significantly worse that evening. Fever to 104 and Tylenol/ibuprofen barely brought it down to 101. Im an RN so I don't just seek antibiotics for nothing. I am aware of what does and doesn't require antibiotics. The next morning, my husband took me back to urgent care stating I needed antibiotics, as he got very sick (he is healthy) with bacterial pneumonia and I am exhibiting the exact symptoms and he has never seen me this sick. Again, "I can't justify it"... I had 5 days of fevers ranging from 102-104 without it breaking. I finally called my PCP on day 5 because I knew I wouldn't get help here. He was very upset that urgent care knew I was severely immunocompromised and knew my husband had confirmed bacterial pneumonia (yes, we showed the results) and refused to treat me. Long story short, I DID have bacterial pneumonia and did not show any progress until after I started antibiotics. I was very close to requiring an ER visit but I am stubborn. As a nurse, I was appalled at the lack of knowledge with the providers treating immunocompromised patients.

Thank God for our nurses especially those who provide care and communicate with the loved ones who are struggling to help and do what is best. From the moment I blacked out during IV insertion until discharge, I was helped by people who know their field and are damn good at it. Some of the people who left a very positive impression = Dr. Leslie Tamura. Advocate, calm, intelligent, a solid rock of the best hospitalist I'll probably ever meet. She made me feel safe, heard and assured I would be in good hands. Rutu, charging nurse for her acceptance, support and humor. Lilian and Marlon for being accepting, caring and relating. Renz and Billy, amazing nurses I could trust. Ken was a cheerful and lighthearted tech assistant. And social worker Ashly, a soul filled with the best energy a patient could ever wish to have. If you find yourself in the Russell tower (older wing), penthouse floor #5, be aware the rooms can get hot on the southern side but getting a sliver of a view of the helicopter pad (had to get up to see) does give the brain something to masticate and reminds you that others are out there helping others (soul warming). Oh, and that hospital air filtration is impeccable. I also liked the garden on the "second" floor. It is peaceful. And the food, it is decent. I loved the grilled zucchini and white rice. The packaged lemon juice was tasty. I never want to see any of the staff or doctors again unless we cross paths at the store or at a really great party. But, if I ever must go to the hospital again, I will hope to see them or I hope that their cohorts ought to be as awesome as them. Note: cell, text, internet reception in basement/ER is nearly non-existent (not limited to T-Mobile). Their Wi-Fi may as well not exist. Send text messages with the time sent. If it eventually goes through, the other person will know the age of your message. Floors above ER should have significantly better reception. Bring your phone charged and with your wall charger including plug, not just cable. Bring flip flops, dry shampoo, fresh chonies, your preferred ear plugs, comfortable lounging clothes, and hand lotion if you like those things and may be admitted. Note: when you hear a faint nursery chime it means a baby was just born in the hospital. *warm fuzzies*

At home I found a website with a presentation on the disease complete with photos. I tried to tell her I didn't look like those photos. She had prescribed a medication, after that totally ghosted me. I messaged her through the portal to change the medication from cream to ointment but got no response. Eventually I showed up at her office and was told she wasn't in and they didn't know when she would be back. I asked if another doctor there would make the minor change to the prescription and was declined. I was completely on my own. Since the diagnosis she handed me was gynecological, I procured my own referral to a gynecologist who thankfully tested and ruled out Dr Duncan's diagnosis. I'm still in disbelief that she saddled me with such an awful diagnosis then turned her back on me. I took it as cowardice. She came up with something she couldn't handle and instead of suggesting a specialist, she dropped me without explanation. I felt betrayed.
