Very Slow Service, food mediocre at best, quesadilla was hot and my "fresh" made queso had boiled over the sides from the microwave.

This fine establishment in the heart of Fern Creek is a hidden gem. Great place to gather with friends & enjoy ice cold adult beverages.

She came out with one drink at a time from the bar. When we reminded her we had more people coming in a bit she walked away. Friends came and she returned with the food and didn't acknowledge the rest of our group and walked away without asking for drinks or food. 15 minutes went by and still nothing. We could see she was sitting in the back talking to her friend at the bar. We motioned for her and she came back, asked about food and she said "we are on a food pause so I can't take anymore for 40 minutes" and walked away before we could ask about it. Finally when we were trying to close out, she gave hand motions and said "are you closing out or what? You don't have to close. Oh my gosh I can't hear you." And went back to go sit on her phone. Thankfully the guy in the grey shirt and beard was apologetic and helped us out. Our extra members ended up leaving without food after 45 minutes of waiting for her. Wish I could post a pic of her to show the truth of her sitting this entire time but I want to be respectful. Have heard about this gem for 20 years but never tried it until last night. Wife and I sat at the…read morebar - love the atmosphere: spacious dive bar with low ceilings and wood paneling. There are also picnic tables out front. You get a faint whiff of the grill/smoker upon entering. Kylie was our bartender and she was fabulous - knowledgeable, friendly, and answered all of our questions with patience. Wife ordered a mango margarita and doesn't like a lot of tequila, so Kylie went half and gave her a shot on the side in case she wanted to add more. It was wonderful. I had a couple of beers. We started with the fried mushrooms, which aren't what you would expect. It's two large portobellos cut into chunks, battered, fried, and served with sun-dried tomato mayo. They were great. I then ordered a duck taco, brisket taco, and a side of Grippo Fries with smoked mayo. I'd never tried duck but that taco was smack-a-lackin'. The brisket taco was also good, and the fries were fantastic - sweet and spicy, fresh cut, and crispy. Wife ordered a pork belly slider and truffle fries. She enjoyed the slider but didn't care for the fries - just not her thing. The portions here are large. A side of fries will feed three people. We took a hefty portion of them home, as well as some of the mushrooms. We could've sat there at the bar and spent 3 hours socializing and enjoying a smattering of cocktails - love the setting. Look forward to going back and trying one of the burgers at some point.

The crunch on the coating is different than anything I've ever eaten. We really enjoyed the Duck and pork belly sliders. A side salad is big enough for two, depending on your hunger level.

I had a beer, my wife had a espresso martini, and my son had an HR problem. My wife said the the espresso martini was really good. My son is newly 21 so he didn't really have much of an opinion about the HR problem.

Once you get through the door, there is a decent sized bar to your right. The rest of the place is seating at tables, both high and low. There is also a outside area in the back. If you have been to Atrium, the feel is very similar. From a beer standpoint, Monnik is in the B+ range, which means it is decent. I grabbed a flight and then a couple of samplers of seasonals after dinner. Very innovative and I would highly recommend trying some of the styles outside of the flagship. The peach grisette, a style you don't find often, was on point. Same with the New Year Old Ale and BA Minimator. Needless to say, I had my designated driver after these 11% and 12% brews. It is not a place people would travel across the country for, but the beer is better than most in the area. I usually stop at Atrium, which I would put in the A category, but I love exploring new places. Monnik did not disappoint. For food, we just grabbed a pretzel. My two cents. THe beer cheese is just okay. The Gouda fondue is the bomb. If I could have the spent grain bread or pretzel with just gouda fondue, I could eat this regularly.

You will NEVER receive a bad meal here. Ever. The food is amazing!…read more This is definitely a local's spot. The great thing is the local's are all a great hang. So the ambiance, depending on where you are seated is very good or fantastic. The service is mostly abysmal. It's been abysmal for years. It's rather the running joke among friends whom have the money but are often amazed how bad the service is. I really don't think the ownership accepts how bad the service sucks...badly. C'est le guerre. Two out of three ain't bad. The prices are en pointe! If they had a manager with a brain it could be so much more. The restaurant group owns three other restaurants. Why they have kept the SUCKY mgt here is beyond my understands. I've never owned a restaurant but I have owned companies. No idea why they continue with very poor mgt. I feel like the manager must have nude pictures of someone!! Go here! Food exceptional. Just because mgt are possibly accepting bribes...or something weird is occurring...Enjoy what you can!!! You won't be disappointed...except the service!!
