The menswear department had thinned out and it looked very much like they were in preparation for closing down in 2021. The planning application has already been approved to convert the entire store to apartments. A sad day for Staines being the largest store and I recall working Saturdays in the electrical department managed by London Electricity 30 years ago.

The cosmetics department on the Ground Floor looks smart and has recently been updated, but the further back in the shop you go the scruffier it seems to get. Some of the upper floors also seem a bit scruffy. Sale stock seems to hang around for months and looks very jumble-sale like. Some of the sale clothes look grubby and stained as they've been out on show for so long. I particularly like the Designers at Debenhams section as I have a particular fondness for handbags, but find that the goods in the rest of the shop can be over-priced. Having said that, Debenhams seem to permanently have a sale at the moment which encourages me to shop there a bit more. I haven't ever found the staff in the Staines branch particularly good or particularly helpful. I recently returned something to the store which I'd bought on the Debenhams website and though this is encouraged on the website it turned into a bit of a farce, with the assistant calling the department manager, who had to call his manager and eventually the store manager to find out which buttons to press on the till. All in all, a distinctly average store.

They have sodas, drinks, snacks, food, etc. I was staying overnight in the area and it was the perfect place to grabs drinks and snacks for the hotel room. This big Tesco Homeplus is a bargain hunter's dream. It stocks all the Tesco clothing ranges,…read morehomewares, some cosmetics and toiletries, toys, electricals, DVDs, CDs, books, all kinds of seasonal goods and much more. As it's out of the way at the back of the Two Rivers shopping centre it hardly ever seems busy - the best time to come is after 5pm (it's open till at least 7pm most nights) and you can pretty much have the place to yourself. Tesco's books are particularly good value and they often do a 2 for £7 for their top paperbacks. The clothing ranges are also good value and the sizes (particularly for men's ranges) go quite high. The Staines Homeplus is generally kept tidy and I've found staff to be helpful. My only two (minor) quibbles would be that sometimes goods are reduced and the first you know about it is when you're paying for them - if you'd known earlier you might have bought more than one item. And secondly, that when it does get busy there often aren't enough tills open so that you end up waiting longer to pay than you'd like.

This store carries your usual tourist gifts that is fast and simple. Chocolate, teddy bears, of course the tote bag and lots of trinkets. Things that catches holiday maker eyes. Small concert at the airport for all your friends and family last minute gifts from London.

Even just getting a taste of Harrods, I can see why people love this posh department store. I checked out Harrods before catching my flight and was happy to see all the merchandise they had, especially since it's just an airport location, so the inventory is limited. But it was nice to see the designers they offered here, and since I love Tory Burch, they had an entire section just for Tory Burch. The staff were super friendly and even told me what products would be cheaper to get back home versus in London, so it wasn't all about them making money. I ended up getting a Tory Burch card wallet and they escorted me to the other section of Harrods where they offered more of their gift items. This was perfect as I was able to get some gifts for loved ones. Glad I was able to get a glimpse of Harrods, a London specialty.

This is a small-ish branch of Marks & Spencer so I often find that it doesn't stock what I want…read more The front of the store on the ground floor is devoted to women's clothes and the Per Una section while the back has the food and wine departments. Children's and men's departments are upstairs along with a cafe which appeared in 2007. A small area of the store is devoted to household goods such as towels and kitchenware, but the range displayed is extremely limited. Some M&S ranges (eg the Plus women's clothing range and the Big & Tall men's equivalent) aren't stocked in Staines so you have to travel further afield for these. I've also found that the most popular sizes in clothes and (particularly) in shoes sell out quickly and aren't restocked. The majority of the staff are of the standard you'd expect from M&S, but some of the weekend staff leave a bit to be desired. While I was waiting to pay last Sunday one teenage girl assistant was telling her colleague some very intimate details of a medical problem she has, while serving customers and in full hearing of a queue of around 10 people! Queues at tills tend to be long, but the staff do apologise for the wait which makes you feel a bit better. So, all in all, the Staines branch of M&S is fine for the basics, but if you need anything beyond this you'll have to make a journey to a bigger branch.

A huge neighborhood Marks & Sparks with a big range of clothes for men, women and children. They're…read morea bit understaffed but very prompt and efficient once alerted. I was in a queue with three other women at the underwear department and once the cashier noticed the queue was building up she called for help which promptly came. When I got to the top of the queue the cashier noticed I didn't have a voucher for the bra fit discount - I hadn't used the promotion but she went off to collect a voucher for me so that I could get the discount anyway. #servicewin Popped into the cafe for a quick lunch and service was a little patchier. The hot food station was manned by two women who seemed to be busier chatting than attending to customers but once one of them finally noticed me she knuckled down to work. The staff who delivered my meal also cautioned me about the very hot bowl which had just come out of the oven. The food section is terrific, with loads of ready-to-eat selections as well as a hot bakery section where you can get hot pies and pastry. There's a giant Tesco next door which is open 24 hours. So if you need to do errands, especially grocery related ones, this is a good option in the Brooklands area.

This store is definitely smaller than their two story store in Oxford that we got to visit early in my trip, but there was plenty of gifts to select from for kids. As this store is in the airport, it is tax free, so their prices are lower than their High Street prices. It was so hard to choose as they had so many cute stuff, but I settled on a fabric, not plastic, backpack for my niece. It's printed with red telephone boxes and Buckingham Palace guards. She'll love it! My nephew will be starting kindergarten very soon, so I got him a pencil case with a similar design as my niece's backpack. I also got a small backpack key chain for my friend's daughter. They do have stuff for adults as well--bags for all purposes, hand creams and lotions and travel accessories. Some have classic London icons on them, but this is so tastefully done that they don't look like tacky, as lots of souvenirs can be. If you're paying by credit card, you can choose to pay by GBP or USD. Many stores in London and beyond offer this service and I find that the exchange rate that they give you is pretty competitive, around 1.32. This would definitely be the way to go if your card charges a foreign exchange fee. Mine doesn't so it may be that my credit card may have a better exchange rate than the store's bank.
