I agree with those who find T K Maxx a strange experience: a sort of cross between retailing and a jumble sale, and the Brighton store in particular veers towards the latter. I am always amazed at some of the terrible 'fashion-victim' clothes on offer, reduced from something ridiculous to something that still strikes me as daylight robbery; I cannot understand why anyone would buy the stuff at all, unless they have more money than taste, or perhaps simply no idea? Only go if you have something very specific in mind, unless rummaging through lots of entirely unsuitable items turns you on. I've found some excellent silk ties here in the past, from brands like Aquascutum and Jaeger. Inevitably, they were alongside ties which were so loud, you would only buy them for your worst enemy. If they don't have the colour and fit I like in the Levi's store, the second place I go hunting for new jeans is TK Maxx. A quality chain that sells established and emerging labels at discount prices, they have a massive denim section on the womens floor which is clearly sectioned in sizes 6-18 and usually has interesting pairs from U.S. and European labels. I've picked up Levi's, Calvin Klein and Evitsu jeans here for a snip of the RRP. Weekends are usually painfully busy in here so I tend to go shopping mid morning when I know the new stock will have been put out and it won't be too crowded yet. As well as a constant supply of womens and mens casual wear, they have great knitwear and cashmere and a promising homeware section. It's not as big as the Manchester store - which has incredible muffin trays and cake tins - but it usually has knives, pans, chopping boards and utensils. Come to think of it, I could probably do all my Christmas shopping in here if I was really pushed for time and inspiration! read more

I was a TK Max virgin until recently. For some reason, this shop never really appealed to me, but I braved the new Brighton store recently and it wasn't so bad. Yes, it can resemble a jumble sale in places, and I probably wouldn't waste my time rummaging around in the clothes section. The homeware section, however, is pretty good, and there are certainly some bargains to be found. Le Creuset goods at hugely discounted prices? - yes please! I also treated myself to a couple of Christmas snowmen plates - sad, I know but I'm a sucker for tacky Christmas goods! read more

One word - chaaaaaaotic! Avoid it if you can. This branched seems understaffed too, with big queues and grumpy and unhelpful staff. TO be honest, I'd be more likely to do either charity shops or even Primark if looking for a bargain. Saying that, this place is good if you're looking for a specific item, such as a household item (I got a bath mat for a fiver). I also got some good value walking shoes once. The stock is muddled and it's chaotic at the weekends, but pop in during the week if there's something specific you need, and most likely you'll find something with a bit of patience! read more

If your on a budget for your clothes then you can't really beat this place. Especially for a pair of jeans and a couple of shirts. Also, they always have a fantastic range of skiing stuff which is so cheap! I always have a nose in the home and kitchen department too as you can sometimes pick up a cheap frying pan or a couple of picture frames for next to nothing. The only trouble is, you have to avoid this place like the plague at the weekend as it is rammed full of aggressive shoppers literally throwing clothes around looking for something in their size. Whether I'm a fan of TK Maxx depends very much on what mood I happen to be in when I decide to go shopping. Some days I like my clothes beautifully presented, colour co-ordinated and categorised by label or style effortless shopping. Other days I like to take to places like Snooper's Paradise, charity shops or here. The reason TK Maxx falls into the latter category is because, although an established High Street name, it appears to be somewhere between a jumble sale and a factory outlet. I have yet to see a tidy, easy to navigate branch. Although roughly categorised by gender and type of garment, that's as far as it goes. If you want to find anything remotely useful in here, be patient and prepared to do some serious digging. And definitely don't go on a Saturday. Although I have found the odd clothing or shoe bargain in here (including a gorgeous pair of ethically made suede-style, beaded flip-flops for £20 only last week), the place where TK Maxx really stands out is their homeware and furnishings section. My most recent bargains have included a set of pretty, ceramic coffee, tea and sugar jars (ex-Debenhams stock) for £2.99 each and king-sized duvet covers sets for a fraction of the price you'd pay in the shops. TK Maxx is fabulous for kitchen things, especially frying pans, kitchen knives, teapots, coffee-makers and sprung cake tins. In fact, I would recommend bypassing the first floor completely and heading straight to the top to re-stock your kitchen with everything you never knew you needed. read more

As with any other TK Maxx in the country, it requires great patience, persistence and time to leave with a bag full of goodies and a smile on your face. Some Maxxers don't have what it takes and leave empty handed deflated and annoyed with their lack of stamina and wasted journey. But if you have a spare hour and can be bothered to delve into the depths of cut-price big labelled clothing, shoes and bags, you might just grab yourself a bargain. Wander through the front entrance on North Street and step onto the escalator to the land of consumer joy, where Levis, Armani, Miss Sixty, DKNY and other major brands can be yours for a snippet of the original price. Rummage among stacks, rows, piles and stands, elbow your way through the masses to grab that funky Criminal Damage hoodie screaming at you from the isle. Spread over three humongous floors, stocking everything from kitchen utensils to Adidas trainers, if it's low priced labels you're after this is the place. But only if you meet the following criteria: Patience of a saint Sucker for a bargain Have at least 1hour slot free in your diary for the day not suitable for lunch breaks at work. read more

I went off TK Maxx for a few years because they never seem to have any clothes that fit me being of a far-taller-than-average build I seriously struggle with finding tops or jackets which are long enough or which have sleeves that extend as far as the wrist, and TK Maxx is no exception in that respect. And as some other reviewers already noted, even with some of the prices seriously slashed, you still have to fork out a lot of money for many of the clothes. However for many other items this is a great place to have a rummage. If you need a new bag, belt, wolly hat, socks, sunglasses etc. this is the place where you'll find a far more exciting selection than in most of the high street stores (which I usually avoid like the plague). Just don't be surprised if a few feet away you notice a shelf which sells perfumes, christmas crackers, watches and children's toys all next to each other! I do actually think that the way everything is jumbled in here is one of the things which makes TK Maxx an exciting place to shop in. If you're the kind of person who isn't easily shocked by anything, you can also have a good laugh if you regularly read some of the news headlines featuring this chain whether it's their careless attitude regarding data protection which enabled hackers to gain access to their customers' credit card data a few years ago, or the various scandals (such as selling sword walking sticks or teenage jackets with knives sewn in), there's always something exciting going on at TK Maxx! Because there isn't any other store which amuses me like they do, and because they have an interesting selection, I think they deserve at least four stars. Hate 'em or love 'em! read more

This shop is most definately different to your average high street shop! Tk Maxx sells Designer underwear, clothes, footwear and accesories cheaper than normal aswell as many household and other useful items. There is not a particular 'style' in Tk Maxx as every single item is completely unique and different to one another. The items are arranged in size order and it is fairly easy to find a size or item you require. If you are looking for something specific Tk Maxx is probably not your best bet. However if your feeling spontaneous take a look inside your sure to come out with a little bargin you can be sure that know one else will have! read more

Many a bargain can be had in TK Maxx. Unfortunately I cannot bear to shop in there for to long, due to the claustrophobic nature of the store, and the fact that the store has no natural light. The store recently closed for a refurb, and the 'no natural light' issue wasn't sorted, although the store does have a better layout. Sounding more like the moniker of some Eighties porn star than a clothes store, TK Maxx offers big name brands at affordable prices. I will go into TK Maxx when I have something very specific in mind. Although it's not the most reliable place, it does offer a frankly ridiculous range of products and sizes. It is particularly useful for picking up sportswear and surprisingly; they do a decent range of ski jackets and salopettes. The shambolic layout means you are often hunting for quite a long time to find what you want, but that's part of the fun of TK Maxx, because it means you get to siphon through the incalculable amount of crap before you reach that gem of an item. And there are some gems to be found in TK Maxx, but don't boast about where you got them from - it's a bit of a no-no to shop there, so maybe it's best to conveniently forget where you got your items for fear of a fashionista backlash! TK Maxx is the better Primark. It is now the place where everyone buys fantastic clothes and then when you ask where they bought that dress/shirt/jacket/t-shirt, they whisper "TK MAXX"- part embarrassed, part victorious. A sure sign that TK Maxx is the king of their shopping world- who doesn't love a secret crush? And TK Maxx is way better than Primark- the ethics may not be obviously superior but the quality certainly is. TK Maxx spans two floors- the top floor with men's clothing, accessories and sportswear. As well as shoes (both men and women's) and kitchen equipment. The first floor has all the women's wear and accessories, with, on the way out some well placed stacks of chocolates and goodies. Now the thing with TK Maxx is that you have to treat it like a charity shop- and some of the prices really do warrant the comparison-and take the time to dig through the racks, it's a clearance store and there are great end of line items to buy for a fraction of the price. So flaunt fashion's trend addiction and buy out of season pieces that look great anytime. There are scores of good clothes here- all excellent brands, from Addidas, Penguin, Carharrt through to William Hunt and Dolce Gabbana for men. Miss Sixty, Seven Jeans, Betsey Johnson, DKNY. The range of brands goes from high-street to designer and the prices stay well within the high-street domain. Only the men's suits rise to the hundreds and that is still over 70% original price. I've bought some brilliant Le Creuset kitchen wear for tiny amounts of money and the boyfriend just picked up an amazing Addidas archive design top for £15. read more

I have had some real finds in the past from here- diesel and replay jeans, billybag handbag, beautiful orla keily mohair jumper (which I shrank in the wash and am still sad about), french connection tops, noodoll t-shirts etc etc. I haven't found anything good in there since I started working full time but I've a feeling that's because all the good bargains get snapped up before the weekend arrives. There are always nice things in the kitchenware department though. I bought a retro pair of typhoon kitchen scales from there for £7 and later saw the exact same ones in Steamer Trading for £35. I have also seen le creuset items in there, jamie oliver stuff and plenty of brands that I don't know of but look very good quality and nicely designed. read more

Spanning 3 floors, this place really has something for everyone. And unlike shops like Primark, you get the advantage of rock bottom prices while still being able to rely on the quality associated with your favorite brands. A section no one ever seems to think of is the homeware department, which has a HUGE range of awesome, dirt cheap stuff for the home. Honestly, the value found there rivals that of the clothing any day, and can usually be higher if you come on the right days. Pop in once a week and you'll find tons of fantastic bargains. read more

Lets take it to the max. Actually, I'm broke, lets go to TK Maxx. Ooo I have found some stunning items here, the best being some Helmut Lang vests that I have been wearing for 3 years (with the occasional wash of course). They also have pants galore and you can pick up some bargain bulge enhancers (yes that's what I said) for a snippet of the original price. If you are after homeware, you can find some very dubious vases and assorted ephemera that whilst looking a bit like things off the set of 'Beetlejuice' can in fact make that spare bit of shelf you have that's looking sad and bare sparkle a bit. They have a nice selection of throws too if you are a fan of soft furnishings and dust. My favourite bit here is the knitwear section, there is very often a brilliant jumper that fits and looks like something expensive. On a sour note however, I think it's really crap how in the Summer they make their staff work in the most stuffy, sweaty and overheated shop in Brighton. That sucks. read more

At some point recently, TK Maxx decided to mainly stock factory outlet clothes and the quality is really poor now. The past possibility of picking the odd decently-made, flattering item in the women's department has gone down to zero. The sizing for women is also unpredictable - there is no way of knowing what will fit from the size given. I was given a voucher and have gone to the Brighton store many times to see if I could get something just basic and decent, but no luck. Even for basic items like leggings, they're made in weird shiny velour, again in tiny sizes that don't match the medium or large label. If you'd like just basic, flattering clothes you'll be disappointed here - there are sequins, fringes, zips and huge logos on many of the designs. Knitwear is thin and shapeless and it feels like a real reject shop now. They do have a small selection of more upmarket brands, but for much higher prices. In most of the store, the brands are unrecognisable and basic quality of materials is very low quality. Beware also - if you want to choose something in store (and given the random sizing, you'll have to try it on) - don't buy an online voucher. Apparently the online store and outlets are run separately, so you need to buy the store voucher instore. This means a friend of mine is lumbered with an online voucher she can't use - due to past experience of erratic sizing. Go to your local charity shop for more well-made clothes that you can actually imagine wearing! read more
