They also customise things in-house so if you fall in love with something but it doesn't quite fit your bust, hips or thighs, there's a chance they will be able to adjust or alter it for you for a small fee. Oh la la! This place is absolutely wonderful! Tailor-made 50's dresses, skirts, swimwear, childrens wear, "little house wife" aprons, sleep masks, scented bags, hand bags, underwear, ties, belts etc. Everything you could imagine and in every unimaginable pattern. Prices are high (a dress is around £100 and even in their sales, you're still looking at around £70 per dress ) but the dresses are made to vintage patterns, giving them a unique fit to flatter any size and shape and all the material they use is imported from America. I didn't have the money to buy a dress (Booohoohoooo!!!) but I did buy a zip bag with a sugar skull pattern for only £10 and I absolutely love it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Girls down in Brighton are very spoiled with such brilliant shops. Hm. read more

Even in their sales, you're still looking at around £70 per dress, plus you then have to root around in the sale section and be lucky enough to find one that fits you. Everyone I know who owns one of Get Cutie's dresses looks and feels absolutely stunning in it. The simple, vintage, made-to-measure cuts will flatter any shape. The fabric is really great quality too, so you know that you're investing in a wardrobe staple that's really going to last. Get Cutie unquestionably make some of the best dresses you will ever wear. Fact. Not only are they made to fit your exact shape and size, but they also come in a vast array of stunning 1950s pin-up style designs in beautiful rare prints (encompassing everything from Russian Matryoshka dolls to Batman symbols) and tattoo-patterned textiles sold in America by Alexander Henry. I was lucky enough to receive a dress from here as a gift, and fell in love with from the moment I slipped it over my shoulders. I'm quite a curvy lady with huge boobs so I can often find it quite difficult for clothes to fit me properly whilst not making me look like a huge lump in a sack. This dress however made me feel like a proper pin-up girl princess. It looks like it's been moulded to my exact shape when I wear it and showcases all of my best bits to their full advantage. Indeed, I'd wear it all the time (and sleep in it) if I could! Every single time I wear it, I get complements from complete strangers in the street - I only wish I could elicit that amount of positive attention with everything I wore! The only downside to these beautiful pieces of couture is that they are slightly pricey (a dress from here will usually set you back around £100). Get Cutie is a fantastic label for those into their cheery retro prints, and I'm constantly surprised and impressed by their range of pin-up style dresses. I bought a 'skulls and roses' dress on an early visit to the store, and although it seemed expensive at the time, have never looked back. I sigh every time I walk past the window here, as I want practically everything. Divine retro-cut dresses and skirts, handy knick-knacks like aprons and cushion covers - all made out of quirky, kitsch fabrics. I have one of their dresses, and three of their skirts, and they are a guaranteed conversation-starter, plus they'll make you feel like a 50s pinup. Not cheap, given they're mostly all made to a handful of patterns that are probably dead easy for them to knock up now, but the quality is excellent, they wear very well, and you'll be sporting them for years to come, to the envy of everyone you know. read more

The name aside- it's too cutesy!Ironic I know- this shop is brilliant. I always think that what makes any outfit stand out is the fit and Get Cutie make sure that their dresses fit you perfectly. The first thing that stands out about Get Cutie dresses- they sell many things as Sarah-Jane says but their dresses are really the gem of the collection- is the print. The fabrics Get Cutie use are both retro and modern with really graphic images of pin-up cowgirls or bright guitars or rockabilly style hearts and skulls...I'm getting carried away. They really are excellent- check them out on their fantastic website. So the prints are great- fun and tongue in cheek- but the shapes are also flattering and simple. Each dress style (and skirt style..etc) is available in any of the fabrics, so that you can match the best style for your figure and your favorite print. No fuss, no muss- eye-catching style with a sense of humour. A gem, I'm telling you. My favorite dress- the cap sleeve Mary icon dress is £105, so not super cheap but it fits perfectly and always get attention. A good investment in my opinion. read more

New & used clothes, knitwear and products designed by the owner are all on offer at Get Cutie. What a cute name eh? It's like a girly version of "Get Shorty" - that film with Danny DeVito, John Travolta and Gene Hackman. They have very little on offer for guys bar a shirt or two, but the printed dresses in which they specialise are pretty cute. I had a friend who bought a great one with bats printed all over it. It was such a great look for a girl on Halloween and avoided clichés, plus it looks good at other times of the year. Some really nice individual pieces are available that are a real breath of fresh air from the mass-produced high street garments. read more

Get Cutie goes for something very specific - mainly stocking its own hand-made patterned frocks and skirts, with various coulourful quirky fabrics being reused across different styles. You can also order in if you're looking for a specific size/adjustment. There are accessories too such as cushions and lady luck jewellery. I haven't bought anything there myself yet, as the prices are always on the dear side (£60 for a dress). But the money is worth it in a lot of ways, as the items are all really unique - I give it 5 stars as this store is rare in its confidence and focus on what its tring to achieve, avoiding trends/buying in cheap tat (and overpricing it). You just can't walk past this beautiful little boutique in Brighton's North Laine; the retro-print dresses literally SHOUT out at you. After lusting after just about every style and pattern they do, I finally invested in a stunning bird-print pencil dress which I love just as much now as the day I bought it. The staff are all lovely too. I must've tried on every other dress in the shop and they were more than happy to help and advise on style and fit. Check out their website; they can send samples out for you to try. I have my eye on the new grizzly bear pattern, just need to decide which style to go for this time... An amazing design shop that uses materials imported from America to make its unusual funky faded forties style dresses/skirts. The look of the materail is retro 50s/40s with cowgirls and ice queens and skulls and hearts. Definitely buy if you can they are unusual but Ive also bought some skirts from Greenwich Village New York which were certainly cheaper since the material is from there. They have an ebay shop where seconds or sale items can be bought cheaper. If you go towards the back of the shop you'll see cushions and bags and housewares such as aprons etc in the same materials. Or get on ebay, buy the materail and get the sewing machine and make your own. Having said that the almost £100 the dresses go for, they are well made mostly fully lined so splah out if you can. They are unusual and its cheaper than a New York plane ticket. read more

I absolutely adore the shop. All of their clothes are handmade from 50's patterns in a range of vibrant and very patterns. They make dresses in dress sizes and cup sizes so you can find something that really fits your shape, which can be tough if you're busty like I am. I am actually wearing a Get Cutie dress in my profile pic. They are quite pricey but considering what good quality the clothing is and that it's handmade it's absolutely worth it. The best thing is that if they don't have the size or shape you want in the fabric you want you can order a custom dress to be made for you. read more

I have a wonderful 1930s style dress with Sailor Jerry-style tattoo-patterned fabric, but you can also find Bat Man logos, skulls and roses and Elvis Presley patterns for dresses, tops and hawaii shirts. They can make you a bespoke dress to fit your shape (eg, bust size etc) and can do an express order if you can't wait any longer. read more

I fell in love with the dresses in this shop on my first visit to Brighton and in the 6 years I have lived here, I've bought 3 of these beautiful dresses my first being a skull & rose print long halter dress, which still looks just as good as the day I bought it. They are a little more expensive than your average dress, but in this case you do indeed get what you pay for these dresses are made in the UK and are built to last, unlike some cheaper pin-up brands I could mention! These dresses are an investment, a statement piece that you can wear for years both casually and for special occassions, not throw-away fashion that you may only wear once and then give to the charity shop. If you're not sure you want to shell out for the dresses, check the sale rail from time to time they have some excellent bargains there, or plump for a skirt instead for half the price. Plus, the staff are so friendly and sweet what more could you ask for? Possibly a slightly more sturdy-feeling staircase on the way up to the changing area?
