Coming back from the Frio River over Labor Day weekend, we decided to take a more northern route home after driving through Uvalde on the way there Friday. We've tried quite a few restaurants in the area over the years, but somehow had never made it to TJ's. My oldest son was in the mood for steak, so this seemed like a good opportunity. We arrived around 5 PM and were seated right away since the restaurant wasn't overly crowded yet. Service throughout the meal was friendly and efficient. The restaurant was well decorated and we found ourselves trying to explain who Elvis was to the kids. My wife was a little disappointed to learn they don't have frozen margaritas, although they do rotate other frozen drinks through their machine. We tried the Key Lime Colada, which was excellent, along with an order of pickle chips while we looked through the menu. I ordered the steak salad, while my wife put together a vegetarian meal from the side dishes. My daughter chose the kids' spaghetti and actually liked it, which is always a win considering how picky she can be. For my boys, we found a pretty good ordering hack. They split the pizza burger that was on special, and we also ordered the steak-bite entrée for them to share. The steak bites were actually less expensive while providing more meat than ordering a regular sirloin, and the steak was excellent. Overall, everyone left happy with both the food and service. The steaks were particularly good, and there were quite a few desserts that looked tempting, but by that point none of us had room left. TJ's turned out to be a great stop on the drive home from the Frio. We'll definitely keep it in mind the next time we're coming through. read more

The food is still good and the servers are wonderful. I've been noticing a troublesome trend. TJ's likes to add charges to the bill for requests. Extra BBQ sauce, chili as your soup choice, or on a few sides. Not cool. The charges are not listed on the menu or specials board. They just show up on the bill. Only a buck here or 2 bucks there, but not very transparent. read more

In Bandera from San Antonio and looking for something local and good and we were just driving around when we found this place downtown. Food was amazing !!!! We didn't take many pics but the Cotdon Bleu was delicious! Our waiter Jamie gave top-notch customer service and checked on us consistently. Definitely will be back ! read more

Wow! We split the grilled chicken smothered in onion, mushrooms, and brown gravy. It had fresh green beans and mashed potatoes. We finished it off with the best dessert I have ever had, hot bread pudding! I will gladly drive the miles from Helotes to eat here again. Oh, and the service was great! read more

Nice restaurant. Wife had grilled shrimp stated was just OK (tasted like they were pan seared vs grilled as advertised). I had a cup of chili (of course no bean in Texas) that was excellent! Chicken fried chicken was excellent and very generous in size. Neither of us cared for the green beans. Very bland as though they were blanched then served. Menu had a nice selection of steaks, fried food, burgers & assorted seafood offerings. Desserts looked homemade but will have to try another day. read more

The parmesan crusted cod was amazing. The cod was cooked perfectly with the parmesan cheese adding a wonderful savory taste. The coleslaw and zucchini paired nicely with the cod. The white sesame crusted Ahi tuna with soy Wasabi dressing cooked medium was outstanding. The spinach and fried okra were so tasty. We were seated right away. Went for dinner the other night. Our server was nice, and the food came out quickly. My daughter liked her veggie burger, and my husband thought his plate was good. I ordered the two fried fish fillets, but they weren't cooked right. They were supposed to be fried but came out really mushy and were falling apart. I ate about half of one and asked our server if they could fry the rest longer, asking them to just toss the second fillet. They brought the piece back after refrying it, but it was still mushy and didn't look correctly fried. The fish just wasn't right either time. When the bill came, our server asked the manager if they could do something about the price because of the fish, but no discount was given, even though I sent most of it back. Since the fish wasn't cooked properly and they didn't adjust the bill, we probably won't be back. read more

Terrible, and we went with low expectation. Waitress was really slow. The girl cleaning surrounding tables was way more helpful and attentive. The wine took 10 minutes to arrive. Husband ordered chili as appetizer and me a salad. Chili came but no salad. Another 10 minute. The helpful cleaning girl delivering salads to the next table (seated way after us) and noticed mine had not been delivered so gave me one of theirs n got them a new one. I ordered the filet mignon, spinach w garlic n fried Brussels sprout. None of which were good. The steak was in no way a filet. It doesn't take 20 saws w a knife to cut a filet. Spinach was actually cooked perfectly but had no garlic or any seasoning. Brussel sprouts were overcooked and dredged in something sweet. The helpful table cleaner gave us a discount on our bill. I would rather have had a good meal. All in all a terrible experience. read more

we stopped in here to eat lunch on our way home from Austin. I ordered the fried shrimp dinner and hubby had the two piece fried fish dinner. The shrimp is battered with Panko and is perfectly crisp. served with skinny fries and coleslaw. The fries were crispy and the coleslaw was delicious. Hubby loved the fried catfish. Tjs has changed, smaller portions the smashed burgers have gotten micro. Looked like a single white castle burger. And the tequila lime shrimp, well let's say " no flavor " .
