I reached out to have my HVAC system inspected and serviced. Nothing was specifically wrong, but the unit is 17 years old and I'm growing concerned that it may need replacing in the near future. This review is for work TJ Robb did for my parents, who live in Davis. Over a year ago they had an issue with their shower. They called a local plumber who came out but said they would need to break through the wall to fix it. They didn't want to do that since it would have been very hard for them to find replacement tiles and the quote to do the work was very high. Just last week they had an issue with their toilet. I found TJ Robb through Yelp and saw the good reviews so I gave them his number. He came out and fixed the toilet and the shower. They are beyond happy with the work he did. I wish I had picked Eric Duarte's recommendation from day one. After seeing all these AC contractor names from our nice NextDoor app neighbors, I decided to call Woodland Air. The owner sent his son to look at my AC as he himself was running late on Friday afternoon. His son decided that my capacitor was dead but couldn't fix the issue. So he came back with his dad the following morning. I told the owner that I didn't believe my capacitor was dead and that it must have been Freon leaks, and I wanted him to retest my capacitor. He did and found it to be in working condition so he installed it back. He pumped nitrogen gas in to test leaks and found that the suction service valve was leaking. He told me that it's best to call Blake's as they are a Lennox dealer. Ron and his son were professional and honest, although they couldn't fix my AC. He didn't charge me any money and left. I then call Blake's on Monday. They sent a tech to check my AC on Tuesday afternoon. I told him Woodland Air had found the valve to be leaking and he checked and agreed. He told me that the valve must have been ruined as it looked like the valve /copper pipe was not welded properly. He told me I needed a brand new valve and recharge Freon. I received a quote the next day for $1273.17. Blake's refused to breakdown the material, parts, labor and tax costs. The Blake's tech was in my property for only 20 minutes and I was charged $95 for his diagnostic visit! Although I didn't think he did much as I already told him what happened. I really couldn't believe that the valve was damaged due to the over-heated welding process. If it was so, what about the Lennar home warranty? What happened to the previous owner who lived in this house for 7 years? Also, when we purchased this house in 9/2021, the home inspector reported that the AC worked satisfactorily. With that doubt in mind, I called TJ Robb yesterday (Thursday). TJ came around 4:45pm, and fixed the valve and charged 6 lbs of Freon and left around 7pm. In between he had to go back home to get one of his tool to open the valve. He charged me $320 and my AC started running and the whole house was cooled to 75F by 7pm before he left! TJ was very skilled and knowledgeable and very efficient in what he was doing. He basically found the issue and fix it within a few minutes. He was a straightforward and no-nonsense kind of guy. He was honest and kind with a great passion to help his client. He even came back the following day to make sure my AC was running properly. I strongly recommend TJ to anyone who has AC issues. TJ was fabulous - had him come out to do some diagnostics and much overdue maintenance on our A/C system. He got back to me shortly after I called him, and it was easy to set up an appointment. When he got here he walked me through the entire diagnostics process - we talked sub-cooling, refrigerant phase changes & latent heat, all the things! I almost feel like an HVAC technician now! I should have written this last year when TJ came out on a Sunday, as I remember, to clear our kitchen drain line. He explained in advance that rates would be higher for the weekend, but we decided we needed the kitchen... He was quick to respond and got it cleared in no time. Then I woke up this morning and couldn't get the heater to light. After fooling around with it for an hour or so, I called TJ again. When he returned my call, he said he could be here between 3:30 and 5:00. Damn, I thought, we will be frozen through by 5:00. When he showed up at 3:40, I bit my tongue. He was responsive on text, the job was completed right away, he was very good and honest on pricing. I asked another company to give me and quote and it was over $600!!! TJ Robb was punctual, professional and proficient! Absolutely NO issues with the company. I had replaced our AC capacitor last year because the fan wasn't running when the AC turned on. I'm somewhat electrically inclined so I did a little research and was able to fix the problem then. This year every time the AC kicked on it would run for about 6-7 minutes, shut off while making an audible buzzing sound for about 2 seconds and kick back on. I was done, I had other projects going and I didn't want to deal with it. So I outsourced the project. I found that TJ was highly recommended so I reached out. He came during the window he said and within seconds of opening the Air conditioners electrical panel found a burned wire out in the open, I felt like a jacka$$ for not checking but that's on me. He quickly replaced the wire and, thankfully, only charged me the consultation fee, which I greatly appreciate. The whole maintenance lasted no more than 20 minutes (by the way I also replaced my filter like you suggested) and the AC is running great. TJ Robb took care of my problem and was very timely about it. He even suggested I could reach out if I had further issues. Yolo County is not as big on "Yelp" compared to the Bay Area. So as a Landlord looking for a Handyman, Electrician, Plumber, etc. One can only use reviews, if there are no referrals or word of mouth to trust. I was looking for someone to fix a furnace at a property in Woodland. I first called a different company in Woodland w/ only 5 reviews, but had 5 stars. They did not do a very good job, b/c after their visit the furnace only worked for one day. Then, they tried to charge me for another visit to come back. How do I know they did not do the bare minimum, so that they would have to come back again?? I then called Home Depot, and b/c they do not have technicians to install furnaces, they use a third party. The third party is not very responsive, b/c I had to call and text multiple times to get information on my estimate. Once I got the estimate, I was told there were other problems he saw separate from the furnace, which in turn would add additional expenses. Definitely not going with them. Also I cross checked the third party with Yelp and they had mostly good reviews as well, but some bad said the same things about being unresponsive. Then I found TJ Robb. His name sounded familiar with an Electrician I used in Davis. After calling, it so happened TJ was the same person I used for a previous job. I had TJ go out to the home in Woodland and he was able to fix the furnace the RIGHT WAY! TJ was very responsive with phone calls, and his pricing is very fair. I do not know why I didn't think of TJ sooner and wasted money with other companies. Be careful when choosing a business. There are a lot of companies having their friends leave fake reviews to bolster their rating. You can tell in the Yolo County area b/c the small businesses do not receive many reviews. And the reviews that they do receive, the reviewers have only reviewed one or two places and their profile is bare. Those aren't real Yelpers. I realized the two previous businesses I mentioned above had some fake reviews. But TJ all his reviews on his page are real. I have dealt with a lot of contractors in my personal and professional life and TJ is the real deal. Our AC unit was blowing warm air in the middle of a 90-100 degree week. Our evap coil had iced over, the refrigerant had been overfilled by the installer, and the motherboard was partially damaged. TJ got our AC blowing cold the same day and came back to change the motherboard and lower the refrigerant level later that week at a price that was more than fair! I got on touch with TJ about a water heater that wouldn't light. He provided me with a lot of advise and a phone number to get the replacement part for free from the manufacturer. I was really in a rush to get the heater back up and running after 4 days of cold showers, so once the part arrived I immediately went back to TJ to schedule an installation. He was already booked for the day but offered to come the next day. I was quite desperate at this point so I attempted to install it myself, which took some time but worked well in the end. I thought I could repair my heater furnace igniter myself. I called TJ to ask if I could buy the part from him. "you know, I am not a parts place" but he was willing to sell me the part. He warned me that the part was delicate and I could easily break it. After practicing with the old part, (glad I did), I realized I never would be able to get the part in there as the tolerance was next to impossible. I called him up and he came out that afternoon.
