Here's where I have the problem: Cell phone dwellers. Last night I worked on a machine in the middle of four different people sitting on machines cruising their cell phones, taking literally minutes between sets. Tonight, I wanted to work on one, last chest exercise, but that machine was taken by a man with headphones, so occupied with his cell phone he didn't even notice my presence. I decided to return 45 minutes after cardio, and that same machine was taken by a husband-wife team who decided that instead of taking turns, it was social hour and chatting time. I wasn't really paying attention to the guy, but one man was in the 30 minute workout room, sitting on his phone. He was there when I went to the drinking fountain, when I started the treadmill - and 8 minutes later. Never actually saw him do a set. The positive: the place is very clean, there are a ton of cardio machines, the hours are great, and they generally have two of every machine. I'd rather have "lunks" than people more interested in cell phones than actually exercising.

I've been going the entire time I've been a student at UD, almost 2 years now…read more I mostly use the weight room, track, indoor/outdoor basketball courts, and spa but they have much more including racquetball courts, indoor/sand volleyball courts, indoor/outdoor soccer fields, pool, instructional classes, even recreational and competitive intramural sports. You must be a UD student/staff in order to buy a pass or you can be affiliated with student/staff for a slightly more expensive pass. But all around great gym. Does get a bit crowded around certain times but I've never had a problem in the morning.

Being a student, they were no help when I graduated and was moving. In addition, half the gym space is not even used most of the time. The free weights are all cluttered together. Heaven forbid there are more than two people working on the same muscle group as you, because you will all be on top if eachother, while an entire section of the gym is not available to regular users. Unless you have low expectations and are planning on staying at that gym for years, I advise to seek another gym.

However, I changed my mind when some of the girls I worked with expressed interest in training. This was the closest place. I did call at first and didn't receive a call back like a previous review. However, knowing that most gym owners do everything at their gym like teaching, cleaning, scheduling, front desk, and even possibly working a full-time job in addition to running a gym, etc. I didn't take this personal... I looked at the time... saw it was class time and sent an email to the gym. I did receive an email back! Chris asked me if I ever trained. I told him yes but I'm probably going to only do no-gi because I didn't plan to train while I was here initially and didn't bring my stuff. He said told me it was no problem and he had a bunch of loaner gis that I was welcome to use. Chris is really down to earth and welcoming as well as all his students! The vibe is great at this gym. I was here short term for military training and education but had a great time training with the team here. Everyone was welcoming and encouraging. I had been out of training for over a year, and this was my first time coming back, since I had some free time while I was here. I was coached and welcomed as one of the team without a second thought. It is clear the culture they have here is intentional and supportive. I recommend anyone in the area train here.
